New Kiosks
Some of you may have noticed we have some flash new screens to replace our very old and unreliable kiosks.  Massive thanks to ‘We Care Community Trust’ for their support towards the cost.

Shane Fisher
We are proud of our apprentice greenkeeper who has now completed his studies to be fully qualified!  Shane is part of an awesome team we have in the shed, and we are proud of his diligence and hard work.

Volle Golf Prize
Congratulations to the winner of our Volle Golf promotion.  Nelson Cull has walked away in some brand-new Tomo golf shoes.  If you are in the market for some really comfy golf shoes, come try them in the shop.  The NZ brand Volle balls are flying out of the shop too, and we are getting rave reviews about the quality of the balls.

The Vets held their 3 Day Tournament last week and with the weather assisting it was a great week, no less than 23 Clubs represented and great to see the Clubhouse full.

The Drop Zone on the 13th worked well.  The Captains Group will review this.

The new local rule is certainly resulting in less time spent on the practice fairway retrieving and looking for balls.  We will continue to monitor this.

Don’t forget the Christmas Tournament, the afternoon start sheet has only a few slots left and the morning start sheet still has slots available.

Start sheets are in the office.  Be in quick as these will go.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

9 Hole Ladies
Astrid Martin

Today was the first day of the Summer Cup and stablefords.

Our winner today was Rohanne Hancock with 21 points.  Judith Eaton, Colleen Blair and Daisy Harrison had 20 points.  Great golf ladies.

Our group was saddened today to learn that our convenor and all round awesome leader Lyn Harrison was taken away in an ambulance after becoming unwell on the course.

I am very happy to report that Lyn is home, and recuperating well and from all of us Lyn, we wish you a speedy recovery.

Look forward to seeing you back next week.

We were very lucky on Wednesday evening with the forecast heavy showers passing us by and it was a warm and calm evening - perfect for golf. This was the first of the “Sponsor Evenings” and our featured sponsor was Mike Deane Motors. Joann and Mike took time to update everyone on upcoming changes at their business; they also provided a great array of additional prizes - Hidden Holes, Longest Drives and “Hard Luck”. These were all in addition to the regular prizes for Closest to Pin from Par NZ Golfing Holidays and Longest Putt from One Staff Recruitment Agency.

The competition format this week was “Three Tees” with the men playing 3 holes off Blue Tees, White Tees and Yellow Tees; and the Ladies playing 3 holes off White Tees, Yellow Tees and Red Tees. The scoring was really very good (with a couple of exceptions!) and the clear winners on the night with a combined total of 44 stableford points were Dee McCrea and Murray Wharton. They were followed by Jan Annabell and Celia Crawshaw on 41 points.

The season long leaderboard can be found here. Last year champion, Jeff and Jamie Warren still top of the lead but early days.

Another excellent turnout keeping Stephanie and Patrick (remember Patrick?) busy in the bar and Brittany and Ana busy in the kitchen - the roast beef just melted in your mouth and the salads were fantastic. Dawn Rumney is the lucky winner (and birthday girl) for the free meal, courtesy of Brittany and Ana.

18 Hole Ladies Mystery Trip

The ladies left our club early Saturday morning, in drizzle, and managed a combination of golfing and shopping in Tirau. We were wonderfully accommodated in the relatively new Hidden Lake Hotel and Apartments in Cambridge, where we enjoyed a fun night involving dressing up, a slightly risqué quiz (say no more!) a wee bit of drinking and fine dining! The weather deteriorated on Sunday, but we still managed 18 holes at Ngaruawahia, which Liz Woods handled magnificently, scoring 37pts.

A huge thank you must go to camp mothers, Janet Barratt and Chrissy Anderson, for the exceptional job they did in organising and running the trip, but also making those tough decisions in marginal weather conditions. A great time was had by all.

Ladies 18 Hole AGM and Prizegiving

This turned out to be a wonderful night. The AGM ran smoothly, the committee was elected, followed by prizegiving, a short item by the Mystery Trip ladies and another great meal, put on by Brittany and Ana. Thank you to Swampy for coming along in support of the 18 hole ladies, and presenting the prizes. And thank you to our two resigning ladies from the committee, for the hard work they have put in this year; Elaine Gavin and Martina Keir.

Captains Corner

Thanks to all the players, volunteers, office staff, catering staff and course staff who made our tournament last week a huge success.  Feedback from players has been mostly extremely positive.  We made some mistakes but will learn from those and make improvements for future tournaments. It was great to have Ilma Shergold back among us to present the Shergold trophy to locals Wendy Harris and Rob Mitford-Burgess. I believe that this years tournament was the thirtieth time the event has been held.

Vet’s Christmas Hamper – 13 December

A further reminder to keep this day free and to enjoy a little fun and frivolity alongside some serious golf. The Committee has decided that there will be an increased prize budget, there will be two’s competitions for each division on holes 4 and 11, a longest putt prize on the 9th,  prizes for the best men’s and ladies playing outfit with a Christmas theme and haggle prizes for one and all.  Several raffles will also be run throughout the day.

Dates to keep in mind.

29 November – Vets Haggle (Stableford and Twos)
13 December – Vet’s Christmas Hamper
20 December – Closing Day / Cross Country

Results – Wednesday 1 November

A good sized field turned out on Wednesday – 70 in all.

President's Report
John 'Swampy' Marsh

  • A big shout out to John Crawshaw for helping to complete the Tee signs, and to Santa’s helper Hugh Moleta. Just boxing up and pouring the concrete to do.
  • Congratulations to Shane Fisher, our new qualified Greenkeeper. A great work ethic and a pleasure to work alongside.  A small presentation was held Thursday to present him with a gift from the club. Well done Shane, you are now fully qualified in turf management.
  • The members Christmas raffle is filling up. Don’t forget to buy your tickets. $5 each, 10 legs of lamb, 10 bottles of wine.
  • A great honour to present the trophies at the ladies prizegiving. We are blessed with lovely people who care about the club. Congratulations to all the winners. Another well organised event.
