Maintenance Week

Next week the greenkeepers will be coring the surrounds and tees.  The back 9 is open on Monday and Tuesday at this stage.  We may open the front 9 when the lads have finished on that side, and close the back 9 while they complete their work.  We also may open the course on Friday for the Haggle.  This is all dependent on the weather and smooth progress.
Please keep an eye on the tee sheets and book in if you want to play next week.

Cafe Hours

From Monday, the cafe will operating limited hours and limited range for the next two weeks.  When the café is not staffed, we will have food on sale in the shop or bar.

Links View Drive

Just a gentle reminder to keep to the speed limit when travelling along Links View Drive.  I had a call from a resident who has expressed concern about some vehicles speeding.

Cart for Sale

HDK Electric Golf Cart for sale. Good condition

Environmental Area

As most members know, we have a special part of the course that is protected.  The wetland area between the 7th and 8th holes is an important breeding area for the very rare banded rail birds.  Please do not enter this area to search for balls, especially in the reeds on the edge.  Bird nesting season has started, and just because they are not visible doesn't mean that they are not there, so please keep out.  See below a photo of these birds taken in that area last season.

Penultimate Interclub Round was held on Monday at Whakatane.

A good game with more points on the board keeps our Interclub Team 2nd equal with Tauranga who happily have a bye for the final.

Final Interclub at the Mount 4th September.

9-hole play at Fairview 31st August.

My quote for the day:  “they call it golf because all other four letter words are taken.”

Fiji ParNZ Tournament

Five couples from Omokoroa spent the week in Fiji, enjoying the sun and the wonderful ParNZ tournament. It was very well organised by Denise and Kim and a lot of fun was had by all. And, all the Omokoroa players managed to finish in the prizes! Martina Keir proved to be the star of the week, achieving the prize for the top individual lady as well as helping her team win the overall title.

Eagles Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools Tournament

Anya Apanui had a great round of 76, at Te Puke, to take out the girls title at this event last Monday. Well done Anya!

RESULTS – Wednesday

A variety of events this week viz Grandparent Round, Hidden holes, Closest to the Pin, Outta the Blue Voucher and the usual weekly Stableford competition.

Can’t reproduce all the results here but certainly acknowledge the “behind the scenes winners” who organised these events and compiled the computerised results efficiently. Thanks guys and that’s from someone who didn’t even get close to a tin of peaches. Anyway some results worth noting

Around the Traps

I mentioned last week an earlier chat, off the record, with our enthusiastic Course Convenor and in which he outlined possible options of ways and means of effecting minor changes and addressing drainage issues simultaneously.

One of those relates to the 4th Green where excess water and runoff could be handled simply by extending the existing drainage system. A photographic example is attached.

Yes – an Island Green.  And to compliment that, you may have noticed a building platform directly above the green is already under construction and which may subsequently be converted to a small boutique café already titled Cheers and Jeers Café to acknowledge tee shots that make the grade (or not). But a lot more to be done beforehand.
