Maintenance Week 28 AUG - 1 SEP
Each year we have a couple of weeks where we close the course to conduct vital maintenance on the course.  Our next planned week begins on 28 August.  This time the lads are working the surrounds and tees.  There will be no group competitions during that week, and all or part of the course will be closed for several days while the guys complete this important work.

New Bunkers
You will notice the bunker near the second green has been reshaped and has multiplied.  This is part of the planned renovations and was done as part of the new cart path build across to the third tee.  The area is to be treated as 'Abnormal Course Conditions' (GUR), and please tread very carefully if you need to retrieve your ball from that area.

Carts
A big thank you to all cart users.  We have been using our new 'cart paths only' policy quite a bit lately and everyone has adapted to the rule well.  We are seeing less damage as folks get used to the rule.  Please check the website each day to see which policy is in place.  The course has dried out quite a bit, so we have been able to relax the rules to allow 'normal' cart use on some days.

A big shout out to Ross Milne who for the last 6 years has looked after the painting and replacing of the pegs on the course.  We have a lot of volunteers that do sterling work behind the scenes, very often thankless tasks that go unnoticed.
Thank you Ross for all your hard work, awesome.  John Holloway has kindly offered his services to fill the space.  Look forward to working with you John

Another successful pour on the 18^th cart path.  We only just beat the weather thanks to everyone who turned up to help.

The bunkers on hole 2 are now completed, thanks to all the people who helped with this project.  Once the grass takes off it will become a feature of the hole.  Thanks to Bay Shapers for a very professional job.

A very chilly start to the day and we had to wait for the green keepers to do their important jobs before we got underway at 9.30.
Woolly hats and jackets were the order of the day, but that didn't stop the brilliance on the course.
Not one, but 3 birdies today, all on the 11th hole.  Congratulations to Yvonne Hoskins, Mary Jane Leuch and Shirley Johnson. Great work ladies!

A protest to the Starter’s Office at the outset saw the Best Gross (Top Dog)  score again up for grabs and won with a fine round of 81 by Steve Ingall. On his arrival I noticed Steve extricate himself from his cart and struggle to the Club Rooms. More a warm up for a zimmer frame street derby than a good round but he turned things around. Well done.

BOP Vets – a further Tournament is/was scheduled for Whakatane Mon 7th Aug. I haven’t seen the Entry Form as yet but will advise separately as soon as received.

Western Bay Quads – Omanu Mon 14th August. Entries filling quickly to our maximum allocation. See Ian Howells or entry form now posted in Locker Room.

Omokoroa Mixed Pairs – Shergold Trophy – Wed 15th- Fri 17th November

Around the Traps
I’ve stopped a bit of flak recently, for including on my shopping list for the “Table”,  items/cans of fruit from offshore. This wasn’t directed as an xenophobic reaction to the producer but a concern on possible growing techniques and the use of manmade fertilizer products in the host country. In my defence, as a group, we are pretty price sensitive so that product line stood out. Secondly I can see that ground grown products like garlic could be affected by those growing practices but honestly even with the best intent in the world and the worst case of dysentery I can’t see tree grown crops affected.
