Course Status and Carts
We have changed the way the course status updates appear on the website.  You now need to look at the BOTTOM of the homepage to see the course status each day.  This is because the one at the top of the page had a limit on characters, so we couldn’t fit the full information in there, and it was causing confusion.

Also, a reminder that we are endeavouring to keep the course open more often for everyone, so there will be days where carts are confined to cart paths only.  That means when there is a cart path available, you must stay on the paths, even if your ball is on the other side of the fairway.  Where there are no paths, please stick to the highest areas and take extra caution.  If we all work together to protect our course, we can continue to keep it open for everyone as often as possible.  Let’s hope for a dry winter!

9 Hole Ladies

It was awesome to welcome our enthusiastic ladies back to golf today, after a 2 week break due to the weather.
The matchplay semi finals were played on the front nine, and the results are:

Our interclub team had another good win on Monday. They faced not only wet and boggy course conditions, but also a strong opponent, Tauranga.
The team had a total of 21 ½ points and continue to lead the competition.

A nett haggle was played by the balance of ladies today. There were some great scores.
Special mention to Jacqui Crossfield for her slam dunk and birdie on the 11^th, and Debbie Hardaker for 2 pars today.

As we do not now need the Match Play reserve day scheduled for the 20th May it is now our intention to restart the shootout qualifying.  So weather permitting everyone will be back off white tees this week.

There have been a few issues recently relating to the crossover of players and the time taken to play our round of golf on any given Saturday.  Some of the problems that we are encountering are simply the number of players (Men and Women) now wanting to use the course, the current condition of the course, the Match play competition that has been in progress, time taken to find balls in the rough, cleaning and placing (or lack of it) and the general lack of "daylight" hours.  Please be assured that we are speaking with the office staff and the Ladies Section, to try and address these matters with a view to obtaining the magic formula to hopefully suit everyone but with a members must come first approach.

Midweek Pennants Results
Our silver ladies won the second round of matchplay at the Waihi Course last Friday, 12th May, and have now moved into 1st place overall. Helen Hunkin scored 21.5pts, Pink Leow 25pts and Lynda Smith 15.5pts.

The bronze ladies finished 4th , on the same day, and are now 6th overall. Maxine Cotter scored 21pts, Jenny Shirley 17pts and Janice Bell 15pts.

Evan Aiken has a comfortable lead but I see Colin Gee has a round in hand and could easily make up the deficit. Final round will be very interesting. That new Driver of Evan’s better pay its way otherwise keep an eye on Trade Me?

Fintan Downes has a narrow lead but again any number could make a dive at the tape and including Mark Dodd who had a disappointing round by his standards and could make up the deficit with a return to form. Also Ian Graham has been in solid form of late.”

Div 3
The wily George Griffin leads the way. Last Years Shootout winner, he is no stranger to the winners podium and trained to last the distance.

Quads Results
A very enjoyable contest at Mt Maunganui last Monday (despite a ridiculous drive time into the City).We fielded a full team of 25 and be fair to say we all found adjusting to slick greens a challenge.
Team results have not been received but the home team fared best with the other three Clubs within a few shots of each other. I will post confirmation of these when to hand but I think we are in striking distance especially with our turn to host still to come.

Red Cross Appeal
Extracts from an update received from Red Cross:

“We appreciate you reaching out. Your donation to the New Zealand Disaster Fund will go directly to affected communities, providing help both now and in the future. 

We know there’s a lot of rumour and misinformation out there, but we’re as committed as we’ve always been to helping those who need it. Your donation is valued, needed, and will make a difference. 

We would like to reassure you that 100% of donations—and any interest we earn—will be spent on providing support and assistance directly to affected communities.  We are aiming to commit the majority of funds by August – six months from when Cyclone Gabrielle occurred – with all the funds committed by February 2024.

It takes time to create a process that ensures funds allocated s community organisations, activities, programmes, and projects that meet the criteria for either the Community Support Grant or the Community Enable Grant.

We have to balance moving quickly enough to support affected communities with making sure we are not duplicating effort, overlapping with other organisation support, or initiatives that will not deliver impact in affected communities.

We are working hard to understand the situation on the ground, listening to Councils, emergency management group managers, iwi and hapu and community leaders. There is no intent to delay dispersing the funds.

We know recovery from an emergency of this scale will take decades. Our goal is to work with communities to maximise the impact of the generosity from Kiwis donating to the New Zealand Disaster Fund.”
