Memberships 2023-2024
We are working hard in the office as the end of our financial year looms.  The annual subs are now aligned with the FY, so your new subs will be due soon.  We will start invoicing for next season on Monday 3rd April, and payment will be due by the end of April.  Members who wish to change playing category or resign, please contact us before the end of this month.  The full list of the new prices can be found on our website.

Coring
The team have their annual coring week 27-31 March, so the course and clubhouse will be closed during this time.

Course Plans
The Board and staff have been working on plans for this season, in keeping with the club’s strategic plan.  The 2023 Course Development Program can be found here, along with the club’s Machinery Replacement Plan

Roof Repair
Massive thanks to Barry Mason, Swampy, and their team for the awesome job repairing our leaky roof above the office.  It won’t be the last repair our tired clubhouse needs, but it is much appreciated by the staff (and the IT gear in the shop!)

Twilight Final Night
Well what can I say – Jon and Pink turned it on and thanks to all our sponsors, Par NZ, Bethlehem Butchery, Mike Deane Motors, and The Clubroom

Interclub Pennants
Our Championship Team played against the Whakatane side at the Lakeview Club and were pipped 3.5-2.5. Richard Apanui lost a competitive match to Blair Murdoch 2 and 1. Hayden Nganeko and Neil Howard both had comfortable wins and Brian Pirani showed some ticker to halve his match.

In the Senior Division our guys drew 3 all with Te Puke. Zane Orchard and Marcus Niles had big wins while Jordy Shaw had a great battle to finish 1 up.

Finally, well done to our Silver Ladies, who travelled down to Opotiki and beat the Mount Team.

Big shout out to the Sat Mens committee for all their hard work every week.

Also a big thank you to Barry and Blair Mason for the office roof repair, unfortunately we had heavy rain before the flashings could be made.

Thank you to members who turned out to help with pouring concrete on number two fairway cart path. Please be patient. We have many projects ongoing now we have fine weather.

Please everyone, look around you. What a fantastic club we have.  Going forward – be positive. Our Board is looking to make our club even better than in the future, and we have the right people to do it. Love you all.

Pennants Results
Championship Pennants:
The team played Mt Maunganui at Opotiki last Sunday. And they won 5 matches to 4! Kellie Orchard unfortunately injured her arm on Saturday, so Sue Thomson stepped in at the last minute to play. Billy-Jo Simmons and Anya Apanui won their foursomes in the morning, as did Wendy Harris and Debbie Clark. Wendy and Debbie both went on to win their singles in the afternoon, 3 & 2 and 3 & 1, respectively. Then in an exciting finish to the day our Number 1, Anya Apanui had a fabulous win over Nikki Kirsopp to seal the team win on the 18th. Pink Leow was the other member of the team. The final round will not be held till the 23rd April.

Association Pennants:
The first round of net play started at the Mt Maunganui Course last Monday. Our team of Sue Thomson 82, Pink Leow 80, Lynda Smith 76, Martina Keir 71, Cherry Reehal 71, and Jenny Shirley 75 are currently in 5th position.

Vets Vibes
Ross Milne

Apologies for no column or results last week. We were away but did take in the final day of NZPGA Open at Millbrook. Followed a couple of the NZ stars – Steven Alker and Michael Hendry, both of whom were in the mix for quite a way.  Seeing and doing are separate animals as I showed on Wednesday.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

What a wonderful evening to end the Twilight season. Another full field of 104 players enjoyed fine and sunny conditions - thankfully.

Competition format was combined stableford - with only 5 clubs. Having fewer clubs in the bag did not cause too many problems - even for the player who found herself in the bunker with only a 7 iron to get out with! Winners on the night were Jan Annabel and Lois Amaru with a total of 41 points. They were closely followed by Glenda Gourley and Gae Stevenson on 40 points - a good evening for the ladies. Nearest the pin winners were Tom Hansen, Marcus Niles, Janice Bell and Glenda Street, who all received a sleeve of Titleist golf balls courtesy of PaR n.z. Golfing Holidays.

A record number of meals were served up by Brittany and Ana with a total of 97 people enjoying the beef, glazed ham, scalloped potatoes, rolls, breads and multiple salads. The winner of the complimentary dinner was Trudy Trickett - thanks Brittany.

It was great to see all 120 seats in the club room full - and a few people overflowing to the outside tables. Following the dinner we had the season end prizegiving - with a superb prize table thanks to our wonderful sponsors - Bethlehem Butchery, Mike Deane Motors, The Clubroom and Par nz Golfing holidays. Taking out the top places were:

1. Jeff and Jamie Warren
2. Allan Winter and Allan Hoskins
3. Cliff and Robyn King
4. B.J.Simmons and Liz Woods
5. Chris Lynch and Peter Kilpatrick

Many thanks to our sponsors, our volunteers, the caterers and the bar staff - and particularly many thanks to all of the players who came along and made the Twilight season such a success.
