Manager's Message
Marcus Niles

New Bar Staff
We have have had a successful recruitment process for some new bar staff, so you will notice some smiling new faces in the next couple of weeks.  I know you will make them feel welcome to our golf family, and you will be patient with while they learn the ropes.  Massive thanks to Sandra, Barb, and Sharon for taking on extra work in the bar while we have been light in that area.

NZ Open Squash
The event has been going very well.  Its been awesome to rub shoulders with such incredible athletes and cool people.  Their professionalism and dedication to their craft is quite insipiring.  Although it is the hardest I have ever worked while on annual leave, its been a very rewarding experience and I'm pretty proud with what we have a acheived so far.
The event is on Sky TV, so I encourage you to check it out.  6pm tonight and tomorrow, and 1pm Sunday for the finals.  I hope our kiwi stars Paul and Joelle can take it out!

Greenkeepers Revenge
Entries are a bit slow for this one... so if you are considering it, please enter ASAP.  It is raising money for the lads to make improvements in their area, and it will be a fun day!

Omokoroa Open 2023
The dates have been set for our very popular Open for next year.  Entries will be open next week - so put it in your diary now!

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

We saw a very good turnout of 34 men for our 4 Clubs + Putter Net competition played immediately before our 9 Hole Group AGM.

Looking through the results some of you either made poor club choices or just struggled with the constraint of having to play with just 4 clubs.

I always enjoy this particular game as it forces me to focus on my performance with a particular club.

A friend of mine recounts his experience playing with an older lady in her her 80’s (very good golfer, low handicap) who only ever played with a putter and a driver!! How does that work??

We had three new men join us for the day and hopefully permanently: Rinaldo Gruber, Bruce Hickman and Bruce Pollard . Welcome gentlemen.

Rinaldo, recently moved here from Fairview, extolled the quality of our course and kept commenting on how much better it was than Fairview! So there you go.

The Haggle money based on Net scores was won by:
Division 1:
Lynton Holmes                  33
Ken Hartley                        34
Fred Hartley                       35
Frank Lamborn                  36

Division 2:
Bruce Baggenstos               34
Frank Brown                        35
Gordon Lusby                      36
Spencer Tankard                 36

Lynton Holmes scored a 2 on #17

Raffle prizes were won by Tom Hansen, Ted Parker and Frank Baggenstos.
Congratulations to the winners.

We then proceeded on with the 9 Hole Group AGM proceeds of which will be detailed in a separate report

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day
This Saturday we play a Haggle which will be the first qualifying round for the 2023 A-One Kitchens and Interiors Shootout. As with this year we will use Stableford scoring for the Shootout qualifying, and everyone who plays in the Haggle gets entry into the shootout.

The 2022 A-One Kitchens and Interiors Final played last Saturday was won in fine style by Kevin Donald with Bruce Mackenzie 2nd and Marty Jordan 3rd. As usual there was drama with Ravi Sheerman being disqualified for using the wrong marker and Shaun Murphy ousted when he called out the wrong player number. Well done to those who made it into the Final and especially KD, whose smooth swinging strokes reminded one of Ernie Els in his prime. A huge thank you to Sherrif Brian Page and Dave Popham for doing the recording over the full distance.

BOP Champion of Champions Event
Good luck to Richy Apanui, Wayne Smith, James Graham and George Griffin, who represent our Club at the BOP Champion of Champions Tournament at Fairview on Sunday.

Men's Committee
The first meeting is next Saturday 19th November at 9.30 a.m. in the Clubhouse. We are still looking for a new Men's Captain, as I am definitely standing down after 6 years in the role. With a great group of guys on the committee, the load is spread around. If you are have the confidence to chair a meeting and speak at Prizegiving then please step up.

A Round Up of Recent Results

Western Tray Matchplay
Congratulations to James Alexander in winning this prestigious event. James commented that he really enjoys this format and his wily experience proved too much for Alan Winter in the final

Congratulations also to the evergreen ladies winner Jessie Savage over Lois Anaru

Shootout
Mens: After a marathon effort George Griffin emerged triumphant. He defeated John Vartha on the last shootout hole- after John unfortunately found the drain. George was a deserved winner and whose form improved particularly over the final few holes.

Ladies: It was pleasing to see one of our newer members Jan Annabel prevail in another well contested final.

Congratulations to all who made the fields and to supporters who followed progress and especially to the Sheriffs and their Deputies of the day.

Twilight
Pink Leow

Opening Night
It was a very successful opening evening for the twilight season on Wednesday with a full field of 104 players enjoying good conditions. The competition format was “Russian Roulette” and the winners were Mike Kier and Dale Courtney who won on a countback from Matt Groucott and Chris Cooper.

The winners took home the petrol vouchers courtesy of Mike Deane Motors and the next 30 players were happy to receive excellent meat packs from Bethlehem Butchery. 4 “lucky losers” received spot prizes provided by PaR n.z. Golfing Holidays.

It was lovely to see the Clubrooms full to overflowing and Brittany and Anna were very busy in the kitchen cooking up more than 70 meals. The homemade gourmet beef burger served with chips and aioli, went down really well with a couple of light refreshments after the golf.  And the lucky winner for a free meal was Marcus Annan, courtesy of Brittany

The season long Leaderboard will be uploaded to Omokoroa GC website next week
