The silly season is approaching and it is time to enter upcoming events into your diary.

These events involve a great deal of organisation and are close together, so I would appreciate early entries if possible. They are also our major social occasions this year so new members are encouraged to come along to meet new people.

Melbourne Cup Day
Thanks to everyone who supported this most popular event on such a beautiful day. We had a field of 58 punters, all playing in the spirit of the occasion. The fun started with a glass of bubbles or juice, a cheese board of goodies and then off to the horse tote to put their money on hopefully the winning horse or on the jockeys with their hats who were competing against each other for stableford points. The club house was pumping when the race was televised live on the big screen while everyone was eating and drinking.

The Stableford players of the day were myself with 42, and Bill Neeley on 41.
The NTP winners were Gail Nichols and Steve Rumney, the longest putt went to Janice Bell and the best player/jockey with the cap was again Gail Nichols.
Our mares and stallions also didn’t disappoint with their wonderful ensembles, especially the couples Tim and Cherry Reehal, and Colin and Sandra Gee. The weather did seem to bring out many fillies looking gorgeous in all their finery. So I hope many of you went away with some winnings, either from the horse bettings, raffles, and of course, the golf you played.

Shoot Out Day - this Sat 5th
Come along and support our ladies and men playing for this very popular event. They will all be hopefully wanting to last the distance.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

A mild and reasonably dry morning greeted us for our informal round of OddBall.

The challenge was twofold; trying to hit a decent drive with Allan Hoskins patented floating OddBalls and trying to find them once they had gone in the water. This was a particular challenge if the ball happened to land in a fast flowing stream.  That was the fate that befell my unfortunate team effectively putting us out of the Haggle. Bummer!

Of the eight teams entered three failed to return their OddBalls leaving the Haggle to be split between the remaining five.

Top scoring, Haggle winning teams based on their combined Stableford score were:

• Brett Dixon, Bruce Baggenstos, Bruce Blair                                                     17
• Paul Cole, Allan Poore, Gordon Lusby                                                              17
• John Carmichael, Kevin, Thomas Hanson, Horton Schofield                        16
• Chris Hogan, Denis Douglas, Frank Baggenstos, David Bennett                   16

Raffle prizes went to: Horton Schofield, Denis Douglas, John Cotton.

Next week is our  9 Hole Group AGM to be held on Thursday 10th November at the Clubrooms straight after our morning round.

The Competition is 4 Clubs and a Putter and the format is Stableford.
