Swampy's News
John Marsh - President

Hello to all our friendly members!

Just a quick report to let you all know of a few items of interest.

Firstly, congratulations to our ladies who payed in terrible conditions to gain a first and third at Omanu.

Our Championship Pennants team had a successful victory against Lakeview 6-3 to remain in the top flight for 2023.

Well done to Howie, Bryan Pirani, Richy Apanui, Ben Taylor, Hayden Nganeko and Tyler King.  Proud of you all.

To our greenstaff who have keep the course in such great condition considering the huge challenge from Mother Nature. Thank you.

Colin Gee and his team of volunteers are working hard to get the cart paths completed ASAP so we can keep our compressed programmes completed for the year.  A big thanks to all our helpers.  Great to see Alan Nicholls and Fintan doing the business.

Please, cart users and trundler users, keep away from the surrounds and greens.  Some members are not complying with the rules and also please repair divots and pitch marks, a lot of work goes into the care of our paradise.

With Shirley Richardson not being well it was lovely to see three of our gorgeous ladies taking care of our clubhouse garden.  A lovely gesture girls, hurry back Shirley.

Kay Ducat Memorial planting on the fourth is starting to take shape. We remember a lovely lady.

Thanks to Bob Duckworth and his mate who keep the ball washers replenished and cleaned.

And to the Brown’s who look after the No. 1 walkway and garden.

Cheers to all, happy golfing

Unfortunately I missed taking part in yesterday’s Shootout Round 5 and Net Trophy Round 5 on account of a small collision with Covid!  I am now isolating for the regulation 5 days.  That of course left the field wide open for the remaining 31 contenders who returned some pretty impressive scores. The format was Net.

The Haggle money was split between Front 9 and Back 9 and the winners were:
Front 9:
Ken Hartley                 35
Frank Baggenstos       36
Steve Crossfield         37
John Carmichael        37

Back 9:
Paul Cole                       32
Phil Stanbury              34
Kevin Crossman         35
Fred Hartley                35

A ‘2' was score by Kevin Bowick on #6.

Raffle prizes were taken out by: Frank Baggenstos, Trevor Smith and Denis Mason
The Lucky Draw was won by Denis Douglas

Congratulations to the winners

Don’t forget we are playing an Away Game at Omanu next week.

Our first newsletter write up for this month due to weather conditions. Golf has definitely become the game for light rain and sunshine in Omokoroa. The course looked sodden and heavy underfoot over the weekend. However, the light breeze and a week of sunshine has seen it inundated with ladies pouring onto the course to play their first game in September. It is now looking like we will be able to finish our year’s programme.

Tuesday’s results:   1st Sue Reese, 2nd Debbie Clarke, 3rd Pink Leow.

This Tuesday we are holding our Spring Fling Tournament. This is a full field and all tees will be used for the shotgun start.

The Saturday ladies will also be resuming their competitions tomorrow. Fingers crossed the carts can  be used to allow those golfers to enjoy the course.

Good Golfing Ladies

The Week That Was

Due to the weather continually disrupting our playing programme in the last couple of months it is now heavily congested.  The Committee’s focus is on those important events still to be completed or yet to be played.  To that end our programme is changing by the week and some events may have to be deferred this year.  The final round of the Sunvue Championship was affected this week and is yet to be completed.

Western Tray Matchplay

This event is underway, and some first-round matches have already been played.   For those of you who have qualified please, please, please make sure your matches are played in accordance with the published dates.

Sunvue Strokeplay Championship

We have one window of opportunity left to hold the fourth and final round.  The Committee felt that in fairness to our valued sponsor, Sunvue, and to Vet’s players we should do our utmost to complete the competition.  Round 4 is now scheduled for 12 October.

Outta the Blue

Out of the blue we received an extremely kind gesture from ‘Outta the Blue’, local providers of fresh fish and seafood.  I refer to the mobile fish and seafood caravan we see regularly in the carpark diagonally opposite Prole Road.  Julie has donated a $50.00 voucher to be used as a prize for the winner of a competition on Vets Day.  The Committee has decided to award the voucher to the winner of a hidden hole’s competition next Wednesday.  It will be a winner takes all competition with automatic entry to Vet’s members.

Vet’s Annual General Meeting

The Vets AGM is scheduled for Wednesday the 12th of October after golf. All of the relevant information has been posted in the clubroom, including the form for nominating people for committee and the process for submitting remits to be considered at the AGM.

November 3 Day Mixed Pairs Tournament

Just a hand full of available spaces left now in this Omokoroa Country Estate sponsored tournament.   Numbers will be limited to 64 pairs due to the tournament format being matchplay.
