Championship Pennants
Our club is proud to have a team in the top division for pennants in the Bay.   Having a team in this competition not only provides a sense of pride in our club, but can also help to attract top golfers to the club.  It also provides a pathway for our young players to aspire to.  This year our team faced the daunting prospect of having to play a relegation match in order to maintain our position in the top flight for next year.  Last Sunday on our beautifully prepared home track, the lads stepped up for the club, staving off a strong challenge from our mates at Lakeview GC 6-3 to stay in the big dance next season.

The opening round foursomes (played in pairs where each player plays alternative shots) saw some very tight battles.  Things were looking tough for Omokoroa when Neil Howard and Richy Apanui were three down with six to play, but the pair turned up the heat and fought back to claim a crucial point.  The team took two of the three points on offer in the morning, and the feeling in the camp at half time was that it was anyone’s match.  In the afternoon matchplay singles, in front of a number of faithful club supporters, our lads kept their nerve in some very close matches, taking the afternoon spoils 4-2.  Tyler King and Bryan Pirani won 2&1, Neil Howard was 1 up, and Hayden Nganeko dominated his match 5&4.

Captain of the team Neil Howard felt that "All six players contributed to the win."  He also acknowledged the support the team has recieved; "Thanks the support of Don Howard all season, and Ravi Shearman and John Paton on the day caddying.  Also a huge thanks to the team sponsor Ben Taylor and the generosity of Ben van den Borst.  See you next season!"

Sundays team was: Neil Howard, Richy Apanui, Hayden Nganeko, Bryan Pirani, Tyler King, and Ben Taylor.  Other core members of the team this year were Denne Stewart and Ben van den Borst.  When you see these guys round the club, make sure you give them a pat on the back for a job well done.

Jay’s Lessons
There are still a couple of spots left for Jay’s bunker and putting sessions the next two Sundays.  Register in the office if you are keen.  Poster below

Range Balls
We are now offering buckets of range balls for $5 each.  And you don’t have to pick them up!!  Our wonderful Anya Apanui is raising money to support her golf, and will be collecting the balls for us.  You can still hit your own balls out there if you prefer.
Purchase balls in the office.

Royal Auckland South Africa Trip
I have been sent a flyer from the manager of Royal Auckland who is arranging a golfers trip to South Africa in March 2023.  It is an amazing 14 day luxury tour including Capetown, Whale Coast, Garden Route, Shamwari and St Francis Bay and costs $12300 per person.  The flyer is too big to send in a bulk email, so if you are interested let me know and I’ll send you a copy

The Week That Was
I woke this morning to the news that Queen Elizabeth II passed away overnight.   Her reign as the Monarch will be an everlasting memory for me.  It’s not that I am a royalist.  I just admired her devotion to public service and her commitment to doing the best job she possibly could.  Some lessons for me in there I think.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

Further to my last Twilight update in July, you can now find details of the 2022/2023 Twilight competition and rules sheet on Omokoroa GC website. https://www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

Twilight format will be largely the same as last year with a different competition format each week, plenty of prizes, spot prizes and lucky draws, plus meat pack raffles and hopefully a great deal of fun.

We welcome back The Clubroom, Bethlehem Butchery and Par NZ Golfing Holidays as our sponsors.  We are also very pleased to welcome Mike Deane Motors as a new sponsor for the upcoming season. Just a gentle reminder that all vouchers won at last Twilight season must be used and many thanks for supporting our generous sponsors.  Also, there will be different meals available after golf every week, save cooking.

We are now taking team registrations for the Twilight season which commences on 9th November through to 8th March 2023.

Call 021 08195531 now to register your team
