Weather
What can I say?  Its been awful, and it doesn't look good for the next week or so.  Everyone has been very understanding thorugh this distruption.
We have been able to open today for the back 9.  We will make either later this afternoon, or early tomorrow on the status for tomorrow, so keep an eye on the website for updates.

I have made the tough call to postpone the Car Rally until later in the year.  It was planned for 31 July, but due to various factors (weather, COVID, numbers etc) I think the best call is to try to run it at a later date.

So You may or may not have noticed last week that Marcus republished my newsletter from the previous week!  I hope you were not too confused.  Bottom line is that the course was shut again.  So we are going to re book the Match play Final of the Omokoroa/ President's cup on Sat the 23rd July and keep our fingers crossed.

The "New format Senior Junior Pairs" competition has been postponed until later on in the calendar year

Despite the dates in the handbook the Stroke play competition is scheduled to start on Sat 30th July and run for four consecutive Saturdays i.e. Sat 30th July, Sat 6th Aug, Sat 13th Aug, and Sat 20th August (with the reserve day for inclement weather being Sat 27th August) However, I am not sure if one reserve day will currently be enough!!!

We regret to advise that we are now unable to reschedule any more days into our program  so if the course is open for play but carts are not allowed then cart users will have to withdraw from the competition !!

The Stroke play Competition is open to all full paying members of the club.

There is no entry fee but the normal $10.00 haggle fee will be in operation for all those who want to participate in the weekly haggle.

Whilst stroke play is in progress there will be a blue tee haggle and a white tee haggle(including the longest drive on 9) Stroke play competition is split into four divisions over four weeks and all four rounds count.

With the new handicap system changing daily you will remain in the division in which you commenced the competition no matter what your index may be by rounds 2, 3 and 4.

This may limit your ability to play in both the haggle and the stroke play if your handicap goes above or below the 15.4 mark!!!

Divisions as set by BOP GOLF
Senior up to 9.4  Blue Tees
Intermediate 9.5 to 15.4 Blue Tees
Junior 15.5 to 21.4 White tees
C Grade 21.5 to 36.0

Unfortunately the shootout scores for this period do not count as the comp is split over two different tees (The computer system doesn't acknowledge the scores)

Latest post card from Hugh Clark reads
Weather is here wish Hugh were beautiful!!
(Too much Guinness I think)

We look forward to Hugh's return from the Emerald Isle on the 30th July

Ireland Adventure
Hugh Clark

With a week to go before we fly back to NZ, I can say we have played 15 games of golf here. The Rounds have been most enjoyable with the Rossmore Golf Course (near where Fintan used to live!), the best so far. The Hollywood Club, where Rory grew up playing was cool and it was neat hearing stories about his early days. The toughest round encountered was playing the Youghal course on the coast when the fog rolled in off the sea. It did clear but for an hour we were playing blind! Hoping to go and play Shane Lowrys home track at Offaly soon. We are loving Ireland and the people here!

Pictures: Holding the exact replica of US Open Trophy and playing the 10th hole at Hollywood Course. Note in background the famous H and W Gantry cranes, so iconic in Belfast.

November 3 Day Mixed Pairs Tournament
A quick update on our November tournament. The field is over half full already so there is plenty of interest.  If you don’t have a partner I might be able to find one for you.  I have one guy (a competent golfer) looking for a lady to partner him during the tournament. Contact me if you are interested.

You can enter via the New Zealand Vet’s website  www.nzvga.co.nz .  Our thanks again to Omokoroa Country Estate for supporting this tournament.

Dates to keep in mind
27 July – Club Day and third Round of the Sunvue Strokeplay Championship
3 August – Club Day and Sunvue Strokeplay final round
8 August – BOP Vets, Whakatane (Entry form on men’s locker room notice board)
10 August – Grandma and Grandpa trophies, first rounds
16/17/18 November – 3 Day Mixed Pairs Matchplay Tournament

Please note that due to the prospect of more inclement weather in the days ahead there may be a need to keep changing our programme to accommodate important events.

Care of our Greens
I try to use Vet’s Vibes for positive stuff, but this week I am going to have a grizzle.  On Monday I played a round of golf and followed three or four groups. On almost every green on the front nine my playing partners and I repaired pitch marks not created by our group.  That’s just not good enough folks. The greens are soft.  Look after them …. Please.

New Members
We seem to have several new members playing Vet’s golf. If you are a new member of our Golf Club reading this newsletter – Welcome. If you want to play Vet’s Golf and haven’t done so yet, or you want to receive the occasional email I send to Vet’s players about upcoming events and the like, give me a call or text me on 02102242799 or email Scott at vetsgolfomokoroa@gmail.com
