Many of you would have noticed we have had a new lady in the office this week.  Barbara had a baptism of fire as she stepped into the office to help out this week.  Sandra was unfortunately a close contact last weekend, so under the rules of the day she had to isolate for a week.  She has since tested negative and will be back on deck Monday.  It is a timely reminder that we will likely be getting disruptions to members and staff in the coming weeks.  But hopefully we can continue to operate, and it will only be for a few weeks until we are past the worst of it.  Over 12000 cases today!

Back to Barbara...  She is helping out short term with accounts and admin, and after her awesome efforts this week, she may offer some cover in the office.  She is a lovely lady and is keen to offer help wherever she can, so she might be a resource for us in the future.  I know you will make her feel welcome if you see her.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

Just another beautiful late Summer day in the BOP on Wednesday. It was good to see 82 players in the field who fronted up with their coloured golf ball for the competition.

Only 6 teams lost their coloured ball as compared to 13 teams back in November. A mixed bag with some losing their coloured ball on the 1st hole whilst some were lost on the very last hole, murphy’s law.

Scoring was very close with 3 teams tied on 23 points. Brad and Brett were 1st on countback from Wendy and Jeff and then Keith and Kerry – who remain at the top of the overall leader board. You can view the leader board on the club web site. https://www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

If you are not at the top of the leader board don’t worry – there will be plenty of prizes at the end of the season. Final night for Twilight will be on March 9th with some extra prizes.

The draw and dinner menu for next week will be sent out on Monday.

41 ladies played in perfect weather conditions on Tuesday, where the scoring was reflected in the following results.

1st-Rose Thompson 69,
2nd-Maria King, 70,
3rd- Donna Dyer 71.

We had a very successful Auction of Produce and Home baking with some enjoyable bidding banter from one end of clubroom to other. Money raised helps our Pennant funding.

Janice Murray has been kept busy after our golf round going around all the new Tuesday members. This is a little bit of club history that continues with the embroidering of their names on our Ladies’ tablecloth. The tablecloth is often used in our prize giving and Tournament events. Thank you Janice.

Lastly congratulations to the Club finalists of the National Teams Competition. These four now go onto play in the District finals later in the year. The team is, Maria King. Wendy Harris, Pink Leow and Diana Price.

The Week Just Passed.
Another successful 3 day tournament ticked off. Apart from the usual grumbles and moans the general consensus from the players seems to be that the tournament was as popular and as keenly contested as in past years. Credit goes to the Vet’s Committee for pushing on with the tournament when many others are being cancelled or severly restricted number wise. The committee will debrief the tournament, next week and invites constructive feeback from those who played.

It was hugely rewarding to see Sue Waller and Barbara Ellingford, two stalwarts and popular members of Ladies and Vet’s golf lead from wire to wire. They were chased hard by Carol Downes and Wendy Harris, and Maria King and Lois Amaru who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Well done ladies.

In the Men’s event Bruce Lauchlan and Crusher Chapman showed their prowess for the varied 3 day format with another strong result this year.

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day

This week we play the first round of the Club Matchplay Championships with the Senior, Intermediate and Juniors all playing matches. The C-Grade (Presidents) have only 14 players so they all go through to the round of 16. There are a number of competitors who have byes. The draws are on the window by the starters office.

Carroll Cup

This Competition was completed last Saturday, with Max Greer winning from Hugh Moleta. They both qualify to enter the Grand Slam Cup held at the end of the year. In third place was Ian Wade showing some good form.

Pennants Interclub

Our three Teams all played the first round last Sunday, with the Seniors losing to a very strong Tauranga Team 1-8 and the Intermediates losing to Otumoetai 1.5-7.5. Our Juniors playing at home had a sterling win over the Omanu Team, 7-2. The Intermediate and Junior Grades now play only one round as the singles and pairs(4bbb) are now combined. It means the competition only takes half a day.
