Manager's Message
Marcus Niles
Sorry this newsletter is a day late!!

Storm
What a wind storm we had on Sunday! A couple of monster trees down but I think we got away pretty lightly. We are working on getting those trees removed, but it may take a wee while to line things up. Huge thanks to our volunteers who sprung into action on Monday to tidy up the mess.

Special thanks to Nathan and the lads who had a bit of extra work this week they weren’t expecting! One note – please remember to give way to green staff at all times. There have been a few impatient players lately hitting up on them. Please let them get clear so they can work safely and keep our course as great as it is.

Luggage Trailer
Our trailer has had a much needed zip. Thanks to a couple of awesome sponsors it looks brand new! The full cost was covered by Bayleys and Coastal Spray Kote!

Sago Palms
I’m sure you have all noticed our amazing Sago palms in the entrance. Kindly donated by our awesome Bar Manager Rachel! It really sharpens up the first impression as folks visit the club.

New Office
You will all have seen the progress on the new office. Thanks to club legend Swampy who has been tirelessly slaving away to get it done as quickly and cheaply as possible. Soon we will have a fantastic new space at a fraction of what it could have cost. Swampy has been helped by several volunteers giving up their time, materials and expertise freely. Thanks ‘Team OGC’!

Vets Vibes

The Week Just Passed.

Wow. Another extreme weather event for Omokoroa in February, and again just before our three day Vet’s tournament. This year, cyclone Cody slammed us on Sunday. Last year we had torrential rain in the days leading up to the tournament.

I want to personally acknowledge the very very strong volunteer group that exists in the Omokoroa Golf Club’s fraternity. To see the course as nice as it has been these last three days, after seeing the debris and fallen trees first thing Monday morning, is a credit to all involved and that includes Nathan and his grren staff and Marcus and his office team. Thank you again.

Today is the last day of our three day tournament, and yet again the volunteers have stepped up to ensure that this tournament remains as popular as ever. Thanks guys.

A number of our local players will have featured among the top prize winners by the time many of you read this. Congratulations to you.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

A worthy group of 21 members made there way out to Katikati for a round of Stableford on the Fairways and Greens of Fairview.

We were hosted by the lovely Heather who made us all most welcome and turned on a beautiful day for us.

Two groups played on the Front 9 while the rest of us hardened up and took to the longer and much more demanding Back 9.

I for one definitely found the experience of a completely different section of the course both challenging and enjoyable.

The Haggle money was apportion between the Front 9 and Back 9 players:

The money went to:

Front 9:
Phil Stanbury    21
Paul Cole        18

Back 9:
Allan Hoskins   20
Tom Hansen    19
Fred Hartley    19

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

It was good to see 77 players in the field despite losing a few of our “regulars” who were playing in the 3 day Vets tournament. Mind you, there were also several who were playing the Vets tournament and also managed to play twilight – well done to you all.

The format was best ball nett and the winners were Jeff Warren and Mark Pounder with an amazing nett score of 28. They were followed by Nigel Wilson and Mark le Compte and also Peter Tetzlaff and Dennis van der Maas. Keith Bardwell and Kerry Duggan maintain their lead at the top of the overall leader board. However, there is quite a pack close behind and within striking distance. You can view the leader board on the club web site. https://www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

Again, it was great to have 3 visitors joining in the fun – and one local who must have been enjoying himself as he promptly joined up as a full member.

A beautiful baked Italian pasta dinner provided by Trudie which was very well received by all. The winner of the lucky draw for the free dinner was Sunny Tay.

The draw and dinner menu for next week will be sent out on Monday. 3 more rounds of Twilight before we end the season on 9th March.
