Manager's Message
Marcus Niles
A little bit of rain this week has been a blessing.  Great to see some more green tinges coming thru!

COVID
Another reminder to please follow the COVID guidelines.
I know its a pain, but PLEASE keep to 4 people at each table.  This is to satisfy the 1m distancing rule.
Most people are doing great, but there are a few who are pushing the rules and forcing the staff and volunteers to becoming 'COVID police'
Omicron is coming, so we are doing everything we can to keep you safe and abide by the rules so we can continue to operate.

His last day is tomorrow, and I know many of you will be very sad to see our beloved caterer go.  I am assured he will not be a stranger though, and we may even see him back on the golf course!
See below a message from him to the members

Twenty-two teams of four ventured out last Sunday to celebrate Club Opening Day. It was great to see members of all divisions represented. Thanks to Gus and Frank for checking the cards and BB and Steve for running the pitch and putt competition so that I could swan about looking important.

Dawn Rumney scored an amazing hole in one on the fourth hole par 3 at Taumarunui on Wednesday. It just so happened that it was a sponsored hole so she pocketed $500. There was much excitement and celebration that night among the five Omokoroa couples who are down here playing in the three-day tournament.

I have arranged for Stacy from Golf Girl NZ to have a pop-up shop in the clubhouse on Tuesday 8th from 2.00 - 4.00pm February which is Tuesday Ladies opening day. Hopefully this won't interfere with prizegiving.

Summer Cup finished with a weekly turnout of 35 plus ladies braving the summer heat and winds. February began with a competition involving a High/ low handicap partnership for Captain Linley’s Irish Stableford round. Some very good golf was played despite the windy conditions playing with tee shots on the 8th tee. Congratulations to those players still achieving 36 plus stablefords. However, our game was played with a partner resulting in a close first and second placing.

Last week’s Irish Stableford results:
1st- Margaret Finsden and Liz Clark
2nd – Libby Hobson and Linley Jamieson Hill

TUESDAY LADIES OPENING DAY 8TH FEBRUARY
Bing Bang Bong will be the game of the day where players will be grouped with those close to their handicap range. Come along and support our start to the golfing season.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

It was cloudy showery and a little bit windy on Wednesday, but 92 players turned up and the weather Gods were very kind to us all. We had 3 visitors and 4 new members joining us. Won’t be long the new members will be gaining their handicap to get into the haggle.

Wednesday competition was Combined Stableford with a twist with players teeing off from different colour tees. In spite of the breezy conditions the scoring was really very good. Winners on the night were Kerry Duggan and Keith Bardwell with 42 points and this moves them up the leaderboard they are now in 1st place, closely follow by Brett Dingle and Brad Hale. Joann and Mike Dean in 3rd place.

We still have 5 rounds to go so plenty of time for anyone to make a move! Latest Leaderboard is available via https://www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

The lucky winner of the free dinner (courtesy of Jarrod) was Denise Langdon from PaRnz – who also landed one of the Raffle meat packs with her lucky number.

We look forward to our new caterer Trudi next week. Watch this space for the dinner menu.

The Week Just Passed.

A smaller field than usual this week, but some good scoring and a heap of twos. People, please sign your score cards. There has been a handful of unsigned cards in the last couple of weeks. Apologies if I have been a bit distracted from golf on the course recently. Pulling everything together for the 3 day tournament is keeping me busy. Expect more information from me on the tournament in the coming days.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

We all enjoyed a very pleasant start to our official Opening Day of our Golfing Calendar with a good turnout of 30 members keen to test their skills against the rub of the green.

The competition was Combined Stableford with the Haggle being fought over by Hidden Partners paired up at random.

Top scoring pair were Frank Brown and Dennis Mason with a Combined Score of 36
The remaining three winning pairs all with a score of 34 were

Jim Avis and Kevin Crossman
Bob Duckworth and John Cotton
Tom Hansen and David Bennett

There were two Mystery Prizes on offer and these went to:
Michael Houghton for top scoring with 21 Stablefords and Murray Wills who dragged in some unmentionable score!! It was worth it after all Murray!

The Raffle Prizes were won by:
Arnold Davis, Frank Brown and Horton Schofield.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Next week we play 3 Tees - Blue, White, Yellow and the format is Par.

We look forward to having another good turnout.
