Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This Week we will be hosting the a haggle off the white tees with the “A-One Kitchens Interiors” Shootout qualifying back.

The Matchplay Finals were completed last Saturday with keenly fought battles. Our Club Champions for 2021 are; Senior - Andrew Pratt who beat Stephen Wallace 2 and 1

Intermediate - Ravi Sheerman who beat Brett Dingle 2 up

Junior- Tracey Robinson who beat Murray Browne 5 and 4

Presidents - Bruce Chapman who beat Mark Yalden 3 and 2

Congratulations to the winners who get their names on the honours board. All the finalists qualify for the Grand Slam Cup to be held at the end of the year.

Also held last Saturday was a lucky member draw for $250 for those at prize giving. John Vartha was the name drawn out of the hat by our bar lady Shaz. It is the 2nd win for John, making me wonder what his next win will be given luck comes in threes.

Pennants Interclub Golf

We only had one team play on Sunday which was our Presidents squad. After losing an away match to Ohope earlier, they made the most of home advantage to win in a clean sweep of singles and foursomes. Well done to; Ian Jory, Peter Alford, Mark Yalden, Andrew Hoogeveen, Ross Gunn and Ray Herdman, who under the expert management of Swampy Marsh all had sterling wins.

Coring Helpers

We are calling out for more volunteers to help with the annual coring on Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th April. This time only the greens and not the surrounds are being done, but with many of the regular helpers away playing in the Queenstown Tournament we need some more helpers. Hugh Moleta is the coordinator to report to with when you can help. Remember “ Many hands make light work”.

Men’s Committee Meeting

We meet on Saturday at 9.30 a.m. before play starts, so if anyone has any issues please speak to a committee member.

After a run of lovely weather what should we wake up to on our Easter Tournament Monday? RAIN! Several players from out of town phoned in and cancelled being unwilling to make the journey and others pulled out even after arriving at the course. However 48 hardy souls teed off in the rain and for a couple of holes their balls floated rather than rolled to the hole. HOWEVER! The rain lessened, then stopped, blue sky appeared and out came the sun. So, 18 holes were completed, pink bunny and blue bunny circulated with Easter eggs and sherry and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day. We are very grateful once again to our generous sponsor Annabel Reyes from Tall Poppy Real Estate and to our President John (Swampy) Marsh for providing grocery items and toiletries for the raffles.

Results:

Best overall gross – Celia Crawshaw

Best nett Division 1 – Donna Dyer

Best nett Division 2 – Rae Milne

9 stableford prizes were awarded in each division with the top prize in Division 1 going to Judy Irwin from Tauranga and in Division 2 to our own Ngaire Donovan.

The Joan Jackson Memorial Trophy for best Omokoroa nett was won by Celia Crawshaw.

Our Pennants Teams played the final of Association Pennants at Waihi last Friday with both our 18 hole and 9 hole ladies finishing 2nd in their competition. A great effort, well done to all of you.

This is the last ladies’ news item from me for a while as I’m heading to Otago for the Mt Michael 5 Day Tournament and will be away for most of April. Ladies’ golf will be in the capable hands of Vice Captain Gay Walker and our wonderfully efficient committee.

Another week rolls by and the weather has been wetter which is great for the grass and ducks but not so good for the golf of many. Easter is looking nice though so get on out an enjoy our beautiful course. The Haggle is on this Friday.

JUNIOR HELP WANTED
Our Juniors are in need of a few helper volunteers and a potentially a convener? If anyone has a passion for the next generation or kids who are playing the course and could help please get in touch with Swampy or Pink. We are very keen to see our juniors looked after again.

CARTS CLEANING VOLUNTEERS

Once a month on a Sunday afternoon or when suits you around our bookings we need volunteers to be on our cart cleaning team. This involves a quick clean of our 6 hireable carts. Alister Lock has kindly been doing it for us but for medical reasons is unable for the near future. Please if this sounds like something you could commit to then join our team and contact me in the office.

CLUB 50 YRS

The club 50yr celebration is coming up in 2022 and needs a planning committee. If your interested in being part of the team organising this event for next year and the lead up too that then please contact Swampy or myself at the office.

NEW PRINTERS

The new printers have arrived and been installed. Hooray, hopefully now you will all be able to read your cards and the office ladies will not be seen pulling their hair out trying to copy a multi page document in the office.

VOLUNTEERS CORING WEEK

As you will be aware the club is closing for coring week. This is a fantastic opportunity to volunteer at the club you love to help us spring clean around the place. If you have time you could offer over this time in and around the building then please let me know in the office and I will put you on our team list. Many hands make light work

Thank You

A big THANK YOU to the Vet’s Group, Friday Haggle and Men’s 9-hole Group for funding the new vanity unit in the Men’s toilet.

It is a huge improvement and your contributions are much appreciated.
