General Managers Message
Allan Botha

What a fantastic week it has been around the club. Despite the short week following Labour Day on Monday, the clubhouse was humming with activity, and it was great to see so many members and visitors enjoying the facilities. The energy carried right through the week and continued into Wednesday as we kicked off our first Twilight Golf event of the season with a 2-Player Ambrose format.

We welcomed more than 100 players for the evening, and one of the highlights for me was seeing golfers of all ages and abilities mixing it up, having fun, and enjoying the social side of our great game. Twilight Golf is all about bringing members together, and Wednesday certainly delivered on that front.

On a personal note, I'll be taking some leave shortly and heading back to South Africa to spend time with family. I'm very much looking forward to the trip, as it has been two years since my last visit and there will be plenty of catching up to do. I'll be travelling solo this time while my wife and daughter hold the fort at home.

While I'm away, Sandra and Sherryl will be assisting with operational matters, and my out-of-office email will direct you to the right person should you need assistance.

Thank you to everyone who continues to contribute to the positive atmosphere around the club. Membership is strong, participation is growing, and the club is doing well. Let's keep the momentum going and continue making Omokoroa Golf Club a great place to play, socialise, and belong.

Hungry? We've Got You Covered

Ever find yourself feeling a little hungry or needing that all-important coffee fix out on the course, but the pace of play is moving so well that you don't want to stop and miss your spot?

Well, we've got a solution for you.

Simply scan the "HUNGRY!" QR code located on the 9th tee or 18th tee, place your order, pay online, and then collect your items from the clubhouse counter when you come through. It's quick, easy, and designed to keep you moving.

The menu selection is intentionally small, but there is enough there to keep you fuelled and refreshed through your back nine.

Give it a try next time you're out on the course and see just how convenient it is.

9 Hole Ladies

We had a fun day on Thursday playing from white yellow and red tees. Although in the strong wind I am not sure how much fun it was for some.

Excellent scores were posted by a number. Maggie Seavill and Michelle Ballard 27 points, Dayle Annon 25 and Carolyn Robinson, Rohanne Hancock, Dianne Mahony, Robin Lusby and Jeanette Hardman all had 24.

What a fantastic day on Saturday for the Volunteer Cup. The weather was outstanding and even with tougher than normal rules in place there was some fantastic scoring. The team of Don Howard, Kieran Muir & Ravi Shearman were matched by the team of Richard Apanui, Blair Murdock and Sacha Apanui with gross scores of 61, some great golfing on display there.

However those efforts were not quite enough with our winners shooting 60 off the stick! Congratulations to Craig Joubert, Brent Jenkins and Michael Surry, whose net score of 58 was enough to take home the Volunteer Cup for 2026. It was great to have Colin & KD on hand to present the cup which bears their names to the winners.

Feedback on the day was incredibly positive and I foresee this event taking hold of labour weekend in the future. I am sure the ladies player group were quietly envious of the fun we all seemed to be having, so maybe next year the ladies might have their own division going!?

Looking ahead to this weekend, we have a shotgun start at 1pm to allow for the Mens AGM and Shootout Calcutta to be held at the conclusion of play. Why not get to the club early and follow the action we are bound to see with the 8 Players involved in the SHOOTOUT FOR THE SHOOTOUT at 12 noon on the practice green area.

Intended timeline for this Saturday 31st October:

12 noon Shootout for the Shootout (The Sheriff- Dave Popham- will be in charge)

12.45pm Head to your nominated tee block

1pm Play commences

5.15pm Shootout Calcutta - Please see the Form Guide to educate your bids - Neil Howard to control proceedings.

5.45pm Grand Slam Prizegiving and Mens AGM

For those of you unaware, I retiring from the role of Men's Captain this Saturday and as such this will be my last contribution to the club newsletter. I will look forward to hopefully seeing you on the golf course at some stage!

So over and out from me.
