General Managers Message
Allan Botha

It has been another busy and positive week around the club.

I had the pleasure of attending the Vets AGM as an invited guest and it was fantastic to see such a strong turnout, with approximately 80 Vets golfers in attendance. As always, Ian Graham led the meeting professionally from start to finish. On behalf of the golf club, I would like to sincerely thank Ian for his tireless work, support, and dedication to the Vets section. The same appreciation goes to Ian Howells for everything he has contributed over the years. Both gentlemen put an enormous amount of effort into ensuring the continued success of the Vets programme. Well done, gents, and thank you for everything you do.

Café & Bar Update
A quick question for you all... how many hot drinks and beers do you think we've sold so far this year?

The numbers might surprise you:

  • 9,000 hot drinks served
  • 5,000 beers poured

No wonder there is the occasional delay in getting your coffee! Thank you all for your continued support of the café and bar. Please keep enjoying both the hot and cold refreshments. Every cup and every pint helps support your clubhouse.

Clubhouse Events
On Tuesday, we hosted the Omokoroa Ratepayers Meeting, welcoming around 150 attendees. The feedback was very positive, and we're pleased to report that the technology and presentation systems worked seamlessly throughout the event.

Thursday saw another outstanding evening at the clubhouse, this time with a fashion show hosted by You Travel, proud sponsors of our Friday Haggle. If you haven't checked them out yet, I encourage you to do so. They are doing a fantastic job supporting our community and club. The event attracted approximately 200 attendees and was another phenomenal success for the clubhouse.

Looking Ahead
This weekend we are excited to host the Omokoroa Junior Open, with around 100 junior golfers competing, along with a large number of supporters and families. We wish all participants the very best of luck and hope one of our local juniors does us proud!

Finally, on a personal note, Friday is my birthday, and I've taken the day off to spend with my lovely wife, whose birthday falls the day before mine. A great excuse for us both to celebrate together.

Have a wonderful weekend, enjoy your golf, and I'll see you around the club soon.

A fantastic conclusion to our Matchplay championships last Saturday.

In the Senior Final, a classy under-par round in the morning from Zabe Orchard was ultimately too big of an ask for Jordan Shaw to chase down in the afternoon with Zabe running out the winner 4&3.

The Intermediate Final saw a confident start from Darren Tumai in the morning put Don Howard under early pressure in the match. Don had his chances to close the gap in the second round and extend the match but Darrens consistency saw him also close out the match 4&3.

The Junior Final was a see-saw affair with both Don Haywood and Nick Gray holding small leads at various stages of the match. The critical moment was on the 34th hole with the match all square. Nick holed a great par putt from long range on the 16th green, followed by a cruel lip out for Don gave Nick a one up lead which he just held onto to close out a fantastic match one up. Congratulations to both these guys for sharing a golf cart the entire 36 holes of their match! I am sure the temptation to sledge each other was there, but what a great display of old school golf values and what we love about the members at Omokoroa.

The C-Grade Final was a battle with Graeme Muir out to an early lead over George Griffin. However George fought back to take a one up lead with one hole remaining, only for Graeme to win the 18th hole and send the match to overtime. Graeme took that momentum onto the extra holes with a well played hole on the 2nd to win one up.

Congratulations to our champions Zabe, Darren, Nick & Graeme this year, and a hearty well played to our runners up Jordan, the two Don's and George.

Onto this coming weekend and it is the last round of qualifying for the Shootout!

We currently have 7 golfers tied on the same score, with only 2 spots available to qualify from that seven. Another 3 golfers only 1 shot behind. A great time to have a good score this weekend if you are trying to reach the shootout!

The Volunteer Cup is also being held Saturday 24th October. Please register your team via the link, or let the office know the 3 members of your team so we can enter you in the competition. The tee sheet will be posted by Monday so you will know your tee time for the day well in advance.

Saturday 31st October is the Mens Grand Slam event. It will be an afternoon shotgun start to allow for the Mens AGM and shootout calcutta to be held at the conclusion of play. You will be able to book as usual. If you have qualified for the Grand Slam your tee time has been posted for you already.

If you have not seen the Mens Discussion Paper circulated to the Mens Player Group ahead of the AGM please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz for a copy of it.

Happy golfing this weekend team.

Cheers
Ben
