General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Things are heating up, and not just the temperature! There’s plenty happening around the club as we head into another busy period.

It’s been a great week on the course. On Tuesday morning, we welcomed a group of women from Tauranga Golf Club who chose Omokoroa as the destination for their mystery trip. Then on Thursday, we hosted a large visiting group from the LVA. It was fantastic to see both groups enjoying our beautiful course, clubhouse and hospitality.

A Very Special Milestone

The highlight of the week was undoubtedly helping long-standing member Mark Dodd and his wife Carol celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary at the clubhouse last Saturday.

Mark said they had a wonderful time and that the food and service were second to none, which is fantastic feedback for our team.

On behalf of everyone at Omokoroa Golf Club, congratulations Mark and Carol on an incredible 60 years of marriage! What a wonderful milestone, and thank you for choosing to celebrate such a special occasion with us.

Twilight Series Returns, 28 October

Our popular Twilight Series gets underway on 28 October, and registrations are now open!

This year we’re returning to our pairs roots, which should make for an exciting series. Each person in the pair needs to register individually, so make sure your playing partner signs up too. We’ll also have some great food available to enjoy after your round.

Register on the website under Events or use this link: CLICK HERE

She Loves Golf

Another favourite returning to the club is our She Loves Golf introduction course, presented by Stacey Koppens, with the support of our wonderful volunteers.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for women who are new to golf to learn the game in a fun, relaxed and welcoming environment.

Register on the website or use this link: CLICK HERE

We also require volunteers from our different player groups to help us deliver She Loves Golf. If you are able to volunteer please contact Stacey

A Word Around The Greens
Carl Rumble, Course Superintendent

We've enjoyed a good couple of weeks of dry weather, which has really helped us make progress with our course maintenance programme.

Many of you will have seen me working outside the new clubhouse on the golf course side recently, installing the new irrigation line to service the planned lawn area between the putting green and the newly formed garden beds. I'm pleased to report that the installation is now complete, and next week we'll begin shaping the area in preparation for hydroseeding.

Temporary Change to Hole 5

Please note that on Monday 12 October, the 5th hole will be playing as a temporary par 3 from approximately 100 metres out. This is to allow WBOP Council to carry out testing of the three stormwater drains running from Kayelene Place, checking connections and overall condition. Thank you for your patience while this important work is completed.

Greens Maintenance

On the greens, we are continuing with our fortnightly sand topdressing programme as part of our long-term strategy to improve surface quality. The aim is to dilute the existing thatch layer and gradually reduce organic matter levels from around 15% down to the target range of 4%, which is widely accepted as the benchmark for healthy putting greens.

While improvements take time, we're confident this programme will continue to produce firmer, smoother and faster greens in the months and years ahead.

Thank You Volunteers

I'd also like to extend a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who continue to help around the course and in the sheds. Your support makes a huge difference, and I genuinely appreciate the time and effort you contribute to keeping our club looking its best.

On a personal note, my son is getting married this weekend, so it's a very special time for our family and something we're all looking forward to celebrating.

Have a great weekend, enjoy your golf, and I'll see you out on the links.

Grand Slam Saturday 31 October

Saturday 31st of October is a big day for the Mens Player Group. As well as holding the Grand Slam event for all our cup winners during the year, we will be holding the Mens AGM at the conclusion of play and also the Shootout Calcutta!

Play for the day will be a shotgun start to allow all to attend the AGM and Calcutta easily. The ever entertaining Neil Howard will be presiding over the auction of the Horses in the shootout.

There is also a discussion paper being circulated amongst the Mens Player Group for your consideration. The aim of this paper is to ensure members of the player group are well informed of the important matters potentially affecting player group activity in the future.

If anyone is willing and able to join the committee for next year, of course please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz as soon as possible. We are looking for at least 3-4 members to join the committee.

Happy Golfing and again wishing our matchplay finalists a great day out on Saturday.
