Dear Members, 

With the course closed over the past week for renovations, it was fantastic to see that the clubhouse, café and hospitality operations remained vibrant and busy. We welcomed many new faces through our doors, with visitors coming down to enjoy the café, the stunning views, and the warm hospitality provided by our team. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the friendly atmosphere, great service, and what a special place Omokoroa Golf Club is. 

While the course may have been closed to play, there was certainly no shortage of activity behind the scenes. 

Our greenkeeping team, Mike and Shane, have been working tirelessly to ensure the course continues to improve. A major focus was placed on the greens, with a full double verti-cut programme completed, followed by verti-draining and a generous sand topdressing application. This important process helps reduce thatch levels, improves drainage and root development, and ultimately delivers firmer, faster, and healthier putting surfaces for everyone to enjoy. They also continued maintenance work across fairways and tees. A huge well done and thank you to both Mike and Shane for their dedication and hard work. 

Our Club President, John Marsh, better known to many as "Swampy", and aided by Board member David Ashton,assembled another outstanding volunteer team, and tackled an impressive list of projects around the course. Some of the jobs completed included hedge trimming, removing low-hanging branches throughout the course, painting tee blocks and filling several wet areas. These are just a few examples of the many tasks completed during the week. Thank you, David, Swampy, and all the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to make a difference. 

Board member Daryl Muir also led a team effort, working alongside a contractor to begin connecting the 13th hole toilet block to the main sewer line. We are pleased to report that the pipework has now been installed, with only the solar power unit remaining before the project is fully operational. We are almost there, folks. 

A special thank you also goes to KD and Rob Mitford-Burgess, who spent considerable time preparing the areas for the new cart paths around the clubhouse precinct, practice facilities, and the access routes down toward the 9th and 18th greens. These works are another important step towards improving accessibility and presentation around the club. 

In addition, Western Bay Council teams were on site carrying out their annual stormwater maintenance programme, clearing drainage systems throughout the area to ensure they continue functioning effectively. 

Overall, it has been an incredibly productive week. The commitment shown by our volunteers, staff, board members, and contractors continues to demonstrate what makes Omokoroa Golf Club such a special community. To everyone who turned up with gardening equipment, gumboots, gloves, and a willingness to help, thank you. Your efforts play a significant role in improving the presentation of our course and club facilities for all members and visitors to enjoy. 

We are fortunate to have such a passionate and hardworking club community.

Guess the Score – Springboks vs All Blacks, Test 3

Firstly, congratulations to everyone who entered last week's Guess the Score competition. Somehow, I managed to be the closest prediction, although I suspect there was more luck than skill involved!

As tempting as it is to claim the prize, I've decided to roll my winnings over into this week's competition, giving everyone another chance to take home an even better prize.

This week, we're predicting the score for the 3rd Test between the Springboks and the All Blacks, taking place at the iconic Calabash in Soweto, just 20 minutes south of where I grew up in Roodepoort.

The stadium was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and, if my memory serves me right, hosted the opening match of the tournament. The first time I visited the Calabash was for a Springboks versus All Blacks Test match... unfortunately, the All Blacks won that day. Whether that's a good omen for your prediction or not, I couldn't tell you. It certainly doesn't help me decide what the score will be!

Veterans Section Reminder

A reminder to all our Veterans players that next Wednesday we are hosting the 9-Hole Division of the AIMS Games.

We're excited to welcome around 90 junior golfers to our shores and showcase both our course and the fantastic hospitality that Omokoroa Golf Club is known for. Let's hope they enjoy a wonderful day of golf and that the weather plays its part.

To accommodate the event, we have allocated a number of tee times for Veterans between 11:00am and 11:30am on the timesheet. While there won't be a formal Veterans competition on the day, these times will allow those who wish to get a game in to still enjoy a round.

Tee times are limited, so be sure to book early if you'd like to play.
