Welcome to Our New Major Sponsor

I'm delighted to announce that Barfoot & Thompson has signed on as a Major Sponsor of Omokoroa Golf Club. Many of you will already have noticed the new course flags proudly flying on our greens.

A warm welcome aboard to the Barfoot & Thompson team, and a special thank you to Brent Dodunski for his support and commitment through a new three-year sponsorship agreement. Partnerships such as these play an important role in helping our club continue to grow and improve.

AGM Updates and Board Elections

Our recent AGM was extremely well attended and ran very smoothly. The introduction of online voting made the election process simple and efficient, and I would like to thank our appointed election scrutineers, Lynda Smith and Mark Middleton, for overseeing the process.

The election results were as follows:

• Sue Dark – 212 votes
• Jo Jory – 193 votes
• Des Hammond – 188 votes
• Ken Holyoake – 158 votes

These elected members join our continuing board members:

• Daryl Muir
• David Ashton
• Rhonda Wisbey

Congratulations to all board members. Thank you for your willingness to serve and provide positive leadership and guidance for our club. I believe Omokoroa Golf Club is in very safe hands.

I would also like to acknowledge and sincerely thank Ken Shirley, who stepped down from the Board after deciding not to stand for re-election. Ken has played a significant leadership role since 2021, and the club has benefited greatly from his dedication, vision and commitment.

New Life Members

The AGM also unanimously approved Life Membership for Jan Gill and Fintan Downes.

Congratulations to both recipients and thank you for the enormous contribution you have each made to the club and its future. This recognition is richly deserved.

Members' Clubhouse Opening Celebration

What a fantastic evening we enjoyed at our Members' Clubhouse Opening Event, with approximately 150 members attending to celebrate this important milestone.

During the evening, Ken Shirley reflected on the clubhouse development journey and acknowledged Fintan Downes and his project team for successfully delivering the project on time and on budget.

Fintan also shared a few words and highlighted that the success of the project came from having a clear vision from the outset. He also paid tribute to Ken's leadership and determination as Board Chair throughout the project.

Combined with great food, refreshments and plenty of good company, it was a memorable celebration. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the evening such a success.

Guess the Score Competition

The first test of the greatest rugby rivalry on the planet between the Springboks and the All Blacks certainly produced plenty of discussion. Unfortunately, my prediction wasn't even close!

Congratulations to:

• Rusty Hyland – guessed 33-15
• David Tanner – guessed 33-17

Both were only one point away from the actual result and each receives a sleeve of Pro V1 golf balls.

This week the teams head to Cape Town, and we're running the competition again. If you can correctly predict the exact score, you'll win a dozen Pro V1s. If nobody gets it exactly right, we'll award a sleeve to the closest prediction.

Maintenance Week and Volunteer Call-Out

A reminder that Maintenance Week takes place from Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September. During this period the course and office will be closed while essential course improvement work is completed.

We are also looking for volunteers to assist with:

• Hedge trimming
• Lifting low-hanging branches
• General course tidy-up

If you're able to help, please contact David Ashton, John Marsh (Swampy) or myself.

We will meet at the Greenkeepers Shed at 9:00am on Monday to get started.

Please bring:

• Gloves
• Eye protection
• Pruning saws
• Trimmers
• Any other suitable gardening tools

As always, your safety is our priority. Please only undertake tasks you are comfortable with and avoid putting yourself at risk.

Please note that while the course and office will be closed, the new clubhouse, café and bar will remain open as normal throughout the week. Feel free to invite your friends, family and neighbours to drop in for a coffee, lunch or a drink and experience our fantastic new facilities.

Remember, for this clubhouse to be a long-term success, we need the support of not only our members but also the wider community. Every new visitor helps showcase what Omokoroa Golf Club has to offer, so please spread the word and bring someone along.

This week we played a fun game Bingo, Bango, Bongo. Some enjoyed the game more than others. Maggie Seavill won the day with 13 points followed by Robin Lusby and Jacqui Kerr on 12. Maria Wragg, Jenny Davies, Jacqui Crossfield and Daisy Harrison scored 9 points each.

Congratulations to Omokoroa 9 hole ladies Interclub team for  2nd place in the Althorp/Spongedrop 9 hole Interclub competition. This competition runs over 6 months playing  8 courses in the Western Bay.

Pauline Thurston, Marg Griffiths, Sue Smith and Jane Stichbury together with representatives of Althorp Village.
