Dear Members,

It's certainly been a frosty week at Omokoroa Golf Club, but things are heating up as we continue our journey into our fantastic new clubhouse.

This week we achieved another major milestone when we officially began operating from our new golf shop and office spaces on Wednesday. It has been exciting to finally move into an area that many of us have watched take shape over recent months. The new space is outstanding, and the layout works exceptionally well for both staff and members.

Our primary objective this week was simply to get ourselves moved in and operational, and I am pleased to say we have achieved that goal. While the golf shop displays and some of the finishing touches are still to come, these will be completed progressively over the coming weeks as we settle into our new surroundings.

A special thank you must go to Daryl Muir, one of our Board Members, who put his golf aside and generously assisted the team with the move. Your help was greatly appreciated and made a significant difference during a very busy week.

I'd also like to acknowledge our dedicated Green Fingers volunteers for their continued planting and landscaping efforts around the car park gardens. The area is already looking fantastic and is helping to create a welcoming environment for everyone visiting the club.

Thank you also to Rob Mitford-Burgess for coordinating several of the ongoing tasks around the clubhouse precinct and assisting with the installation and management of traffic signage during this transitional period.

As construction and landscaping work continues around the new clubhouse, I would like to remind all members to take extra care when walking around the course-side areas of the building. Please remain vigilant, follow any signage in place, and stay clear of all roped-off areas for your own safety and to allow contractors to complete their work efficiently.

A Walk Through Our History

One of the standout features of the new clubhouse entryway is a stunning series of paintings that beautifully tell the story of Omokoroa Golf Club through the years. The artwork showcases the evolution of our clubhouse, taking visitors on a journey from the original facilities through to the impressive new clubhouse we are proud to call home today.

A very special thank you goes to Robyn Sutton and Brian Ebbett for creating these remarkable pieces. Their talent, creativity, and dedication have produced true masterpieces that capture the heritage and spirit of our club.

We would also like to acknowledge John Holloway for the beautiful framing of the artworks. His craftsmanship has provided the perfect finishing touch, ensuring these historical pieces will be enjoyed by members and visitors for many years to come.

Be sure to take a moment to view this display when visiting the clubhouse. It is a wonderful celebration of where we have come from and an inspiring reminder of how far our club has progressed.

Thank you all for your patience and support as we continue this exciting chapter for Omokoroa Golf Club. We look forward to sharing more updates with you in the weeks ahead.

AGM Board Member Election Voting

Voting for the election of Board Members will open at 5:00pm on Tuesday, 11 August and close at 5:00pm on Monday, 24 August.

Eligible members will be able to vote online using their membership number and select up to four nominees. The system will validate eligibility and ensure that only one vote is counted per member.

For members who prefer not to vote online, paper voting forms will be available from the Golf Shop/Office. These votes will be independently managed by appointed scrutineers and included in the final count.

To ensure the integrity of the election process, voting results will remain confidential until they are formally announced at the AGM on 25 August 2026.

New Pathways Taking Shape

Another exciting step in enhancing our facilities will take place on Monday, when we pour the concrete for the new pathways connecting the 9th green to the car park, as well as the pathway section from the top of the 18th green to the car park.

These paths will provide safer and more convenient access for members and visitors while completing another important piece of the clubhouse project.

A big thank you to Colin Gee for organising this work and ensuring everything is in place for the concrete pour. Thanks also to KD and the team for the significant amount of preparation work undertaken to get the areas ready. A special mention goes to Pink for painting the posts and helping put the finishing touches on what will be a fantastic addition to our club facilities.

The transformation around the clubhouse continues to gather momentum, and it's great to see so many members contributing their time and expertise to help bring these projects to life.

Welcoming Our New Course Superintendent

I am pleased to announce that Carl Rumble has been appointed as our new Course Superintendent, commencing Monday, 7 September.

Carl is currently completing his notice period at Kauri Cliffs and will be joining us next month. This is an exciting appointment for the club, and I look forward to introducing Carl to our members in more detail once he arrives.

I know that I am not the only one looking forward to Carl joining the team. Our existing greenkeepers, Mike and Shane, who have done a truly stellar job during this interim period, are even more excited to have Carl on board. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to presenting the course to a high standard throughout this transition have been greatly appreciated by both the club and our members.

Carl brings with him a wealth of experience and passion for course presentation and turf management, and we are delighted to welcome him to Omokoroa Golf Club.

Below is a brief introduction from Carl himself:

"Hi, I’m Carl. I’m married and have 5 children. I was born and raised in Tauranga and looking forward to moving back here after spending the last year in Kerikeri. I have been in the turf industry for around 14 years, with 10 of those years as superintendent. My greenkeeping career started in 2012 at Tauranga Golf Club where I completed an apprenticeship in Sports Turf Management. Since then, I have worked at a variety of golf courses, the most recent being Kauri Cliffs. I am passionate about greenkeeping, and my wife often refers to me as a “grass nerd”! I am excited for this new season and am looking forward to being part of the community and team at Omokoroa Golf Club."

It was a very frosty morning with a later than usual start to the day. We played a Stableford haggle and Round 6 of shootout. Winners of the haggle were Robyn Falconer with 21 points followed on 20 points by Debbie Hardaker, Shona McRae and Chris Kelly.
