From the General Manager

What a fantastic week it has been for Omokoroa Golf Club. Quite simply, it's been a winning week.

We have reached several significant milestones with the opening of the new car park on Wednesday, the new restrooms on Friday, and the golf office and shop set to move into their new home from early next week. These are all important steps as we continue our journey towards fully opening our new clubhouse.

I mentioned to someone earlier this week that I felt incredibly special driving into the new car park for the first time. It struck me how easily we can take something as simple as a car park for granted. Yet when you experience a facility that has been so eagerly anticipated and worked on by so many people, you gain a real appreciation for what it means to our club and our members.

One of the highlights of the week for me was attending the blessing of the new clubhouse by our local iwi early on Tuesday morning. It was a truly significant occasion. Koro, who led the blessing and encouraged us all to reflect on what we want this building to become, our hopes, aspirations and dreams for the future of Omokoroa Golf Club.

As people shared their thoughts and visions, there was a genuine sense of pride in the room. Looking around, I could see that this project means a great deal to many people. There were even a few misty eyes as we reflected on how close we are to seeing this beautiful new clubhouse become a warm, welcoming hub for our golfers, members and wider community for generations to come.

Over the past week I also shared several important updates regarding the new car park, restrooms and health and safety requirements while we continue to move around the construction area. If you missed these communications, please refer to the links provided again in this newsletter. With changes happening quickly at present, please keep an eye out for further updates as we progress through the next few weeks.

3-5 August
Golf Office and Shop Move
The golf office and shop will relocate into the new clubhouse. Please note these will be members-only access days while the move is underway and that scorecard printing could be impacted.

14 August
Clubhouse Soft Opening (Operational Opening)
This date is subject to final operational readiness, including club liquor licensing, food safety approvals and catering readiness.

21 August
Members-Only Opening Event
A special opening event for members. Bookings will be essential, with further details to be shared shortly.

25 August
2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM)

We played the fourth round of Net and Putting on a fine but cool morning. There were some excellent putting scores:  Maggie Seavill 14, Diana O’Brien 15, Dianne Mahony, Pauline Thurston and Jane Stichbury all with 17 putts.

A beautiful morning attracted a good turnout of 32 players contending for our 9 Hole Mens Shootout.

We are all in awe of our amazing new Clubhouse and can’t wait to enjoy it!

The Shootout competition was Net and the competition was tight.

A special thanks to all the 9 Hole Men who volunteered their time to help finalise the Carpark Landscaping.

There’s more work to come and I’m sure we will continue to get good turnouts for this enjoyable (and cost saving) effort.
