Dear Members,

It is Open Championship week, and without a doubt, it is my personal favourite of all the major championships. I have to be honest though, it's probably the toughest one for us in New Zealand to watch live because of the time difference!

I still remember watching The Open back in Africa, settling in from around midday until 8pm, completely glued to the television. There is just something special about the history, tradition, and the challenge of links golf that makes it such a unique event on the sporting calendar. I hope many of you get the chance to enjoy the action and perhaps stay up for a few late-night highlights / early mornings as the world's best battle it out for the Claret Jug.

On the club front, the car park asphalt works should be largely completed by the time this newsletter goes to "print", with the parking lines to follow shortly afterwards. We will keep everyone updated on when the area can officially be reopened for use and when golfer traffic can be redirected from the course side back to the car park side.

This will allow us to begin restoring the area between the new clubhouse and the practice putting green. The plan is to create a space that is even better than its former glory, and we're excited to share more details as the project progresses.

A reminder also to please support our Fashion Parade Fundraiser by purchasing a table. The goal is to raise funds for new outdoor furniture for the club, and it promises to be a fantastic evening filled with fun, laughter, great company, and of course, some enthusiastic fundraising. We would love to see a strong turnout from our membership.

Last but certainly not least, a very Happy Birthday to Swampy! We hope you had a fantastic day on Tuesday. On behalf of everyone at Omokoroa Golf Club, thank you for everything you do for our club. Your contribution, dedication, and willingness to help never go unnoticed.

So next time you see Swampy, be sure to shake his hand, give him a congratulatory pat on the back, or perhaps skip the kiss and simply buy him a Speight's Ultra as we celebrate one of the true legends of Omokoroa Golf Club!

A Word Around The Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head Greenkeeper

Today is my last day of work at the Omokoroa Golf Club after nearly 9 years of being in the roll of Head Green keeper.

I have very much enjoyed my time working on the course and the challenges and rewards the job has given me and the nearly 9 years proves that I must have, to be here for that long.

I have seen a lot of changes over the years and watched the club grow from 400 members to the size we are now and looking back on those years, Omokoroa was just sitting here waiting for the population growth as more and more people found out where this hidden piece of paradise is, not so hidden these days.

I would like to thank the Staff, members and boards over the years that I have been here for all there support.

It’s time for me to take on new challenges and to hand the baton to the next person who will help take the course and club to the next level.

I can confidently say I can move on leaving the golf course in a better place than when I started all those years ago and trust that your new Head Green-keeper will take the reigns and take the course to the next level as the club grow rapidly.

Over and out and you may see me round the traps in the future.

Doors open at 7pm, tables of 8 available, grazing platter and welcome drink included in your table price. Grab your group of besties and boys and come and watch some familiar faces show you an exciting range for golf wear for males and females and women's street wear. Tables selling fast. There will be gold coin donation transport home if required.
