General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Dear Members,

I hope you are all enjoying the fantastic winter golfing conditions and keeping warm out on the course.

Links Café & Bistro Recruitment Update
The Links Café & Bistro has commenced interviews for potential new team members to work across the café, bistro and bar operations.

I am pleased to advise that our current bar staff have also been offered the opportunity to apply for positions within the new operation. Their familiarity with our members, understanding of our systems and proven service experience will certainly be viewed favourably during the selection process. We appreciate the contribution our existing team has made and look forward to seeing many familiar faces continue their journey with us.

New Clubhouse Progress
The new clubhouse continues to gather momentum, with contractors now starting to clear and prepare areas for the final finishing touches.

Every week the transformation becomes more impressive, and the vision is rapidly becoming a reality. Be sure to check out the latest short video showcasing the space as it continues to take shape.  https://vimeo.com/1208302363?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci

The project remains on target and progressing well.

Imagine the Big Games in the New Clubhouse
This week I'd like to focus on one aspect of the new clubhouse that I'm particularly excited about – enjoying live sport with fellow members.

With the large digital displays and projector installed, the clubhouse will be an outstanding venue to gather and watch major sporting events together. Whether it's:

  • The All Blacks vs Springboks
  • The Rugby World Cup
  • The Warriors
  • Major golf tournaments
  • And many other sporting highlights

The new clubhouse will provide a fantastic atmosphere for members and guests alike. Start getting excited – it's going to be an awesome place to watch the big games.

Important Notice – Car Park Asphalting
As part of the ongoing development works, asphalting of the car park is planned for Monday 13 July and Tuesday 14 July (weather permitting).

During these two days:

Golf cart access through the main gate will not be available.

If you are arriving by golf cart, please use the Serenity Drive access gate.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation while these important works are completed.

New Handicap Stroke Index Allocations
Please note that the new stroke index allocations will become active from Monday 13 July.

Once you print your scorecard, the updated stroke allocations will automatically appear.

At this stage, the new stroke indices apply to:

  • Men's Blue Tees
  • Men's White Tees
  • Women's Yellow Tees

Please check your scorecard before play to familiarise yourself with the changes.

The Open Championship Sweepstake
Can you believe it's already time for The Open Championship—my favourite major of the year!

As has become tradition, we'll be running our annual sweepstake competition. The member with the best-performing team will take home:

Omokoroa Golf Club

-- for the --
2026 Open Championship

How it works

Everyone picks a team of 6 golfers. Add your best 4 of 6 golfers scores to form your team score. The best team score wins the pool. Cut golfers (and anyone who doesn’t finish 4 rounds) get 80 for any rounds not completed. Playoff holes do not count.

I've already made my selections and encourage you to do the same as we enjoy the final men's major championship of the season.

Who will lift the Claret Jug this year? More importantly, who will build the winning sweepstake team?

Thank you for your continued support of Omokoroa Golf Club. Exciting times lie ahead as we move closer to opening our spectacular new clubhouse.

See you on the course.

Our Place our special people – Swampy

Jessie Savage Born 1933 (93 years young)

Jessie’s early years were lived on the family farm in Manawaru in the Waikato where she first played her golf at Puahue. She loved sport and represented Thames Valley in Netball and Tennis

Jessie married Don and they were blessed with 3 sons and a daughter. They worked on a farm in Pukeatua for 4 years then sharemiked their grandads farm in waitoa until purchasing their own farm in Tirahanga.

Don passed away in 2006 after a long illness after they had moved to Omokoroa ,Hamurana Rd.

Jess remembers when the course was being developed and only nine holes could be played. Back then late 70s and late 80s Omokoroa was a sleepy holiday village and she cant believe how the area has grown. Jess has seen changes, the old clubhouse that is now the deerstalkers clubroom at Tauriko and seeing our recently demolished clubhouse and watching our new ultra mordern building take shape.

Jessie remembers in early days the beer used to be stacked in the ladies loo and the ladies all got together to make the sandwiches. She remembers with humour how Joan Mexted a founder member was playing a match and a couple of empty beer kegs rolled down the hill across the fairway

Jessie still plays a solid round of golf and is greatly admired by all the members that know her. She speaks proudly of her 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She also remembers her and Dons 50th wedding anniversary held at our clubrooms.

Having being a member myself since 1988 I have long since been an admier of Jessie. In her twilight years a petite, gentle, shy lovely lady who steals your heart with her quiet, gentle nature.

Jessie is one of our special people at the Omokoroa golf club
