General Managers Message
 Allan Botha – General Manager

Hello Members,

Another week has flown by, and it's exciting to see the continued interest in our incredible new clubhouse. We've received several new enquiries recently, including interest in hosting a birthday party and an Omokoroa community event.

And why wouldn't people want to use this fantastic facility? Just look at our beautiful bar area and taps! It's easy to imagine catching up with friends after your round while enjoying a cold one poured fresh from the tap. The clubhouse is quickly becoming a venue that our entire community can be proud of.

AGM – Reminder

Our Annual General Meeting has been scheduled for:

25 August 2026
New Clubhouse

Nominations will close for the following positions on 26 July 2026:

  • Board Members
  • President
  • Club Captain

so, if you are considering putting your name forward or would like to nominate someone, please ensure your nomination is submitted before the closing date.

Course Traffic Management Trial

The ropes installed around our greens to help direct cart traffic away from sensitive areas are proving successful in keeping carts where they should be. However, we've received some feedback that they're having an unintended effect on the occasional running shot—or "worm burner"—whether intentional or otherwise!

The current rope is quite thick, and when a low-running ball meets it, the rope tends to stop the ball in its tracks.

In response to member feedback, we're trialling a couple of alternatives:

  • A smaller diameter rope in front of the 9th green
  • A painted line in front of the 18th green

These trials will help us determine the best solution for protecting the greens while minimising interference with play.

I'd love to hear your feedback once you've had a chance to experience the changes. Please let us know what works best from a golfer's perspective.

Stroke Index Changes

The proposed stroke index changes have now been accepted and submitted to Golf New Zealand for processing.

Thank you to everyone who provided input during the review process. We'll keep you informed and let you know as soon as the changes are officially implemented.

Thank you all for your ongoing support of the club. It's great to see the enthusiasm around our new facilities and the continued willingness of members to provide constructive feedback as we keep improving the club experience.

See you around the clubhouse and on the course.

OGC Green Fingers

These next two months are the ideal time for planting.  You will see that the 2nd Tee garden has now been planted.  Plant species are Leptospermum ‘KeatleyII (Tee Tree) down the centre and Cockianum flaxes on the cart path edges.

The status of this garden has been changed from ‘Hazard’ to ‘Ground under Repair’.  Please take relief as per GUR rules.  Please Do not attempt to hit your ball from the newly planted garden.

A big thank you to Swampy for making the stakes for the Leptosperum, to Murray Wharton for using his trusty post hole borer to dig over 100 holes and to the GF team, Jacquie, David, Jenny and Sue.

You may notice a little red Tuk Tuk in the photos.  Her name is ‘RUBY’, she is an EV.  She is owned by Omokoroa Environmental Management Incorporated (OEMI). Green Fingers Group have been accepted as a member to this group.  OEMI are proactive in all matters in enhancing biodiversity and a clean, beautiful native environment within Omokoroa.  Membership to OEMI means GF group have access to additional equipment, funding through community grants and human resource support for large projects.  Membership also raises awareness of OGC’s contribution to the Omokoroa’s natural environment.

Planting around the clubhouse and new carpark is set to begin the week of 13th July, weather permitting.  If you have not already contacted me and would like to be involved with planting please txt me on 027 2235246.  There are both light and medium effort tasks available.
