General Managers Message
From Allan Botha – General Manager

 Dear Members,

What unbelievable weather we’ve been enjoying lately! While there’s definitely a cooler edge creeping in, it’s been wonderfully dry again. That certainly makes a difference—not only for those of you out on the course enjoying your golf, but also for the continued progress on our new car park development.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to join the Vets this past Wednesday due to unforeseen circumstances. I’m hoping to be back out there with the group next Wednesday and look forward to catching up with everyone then.

I’d also like to take a moment to give a very special shout-out to Swampy. His ongoing efforts around the course have been nothing short of outstanding. From day-to-day support to organising volunteers for the concrete path extension on the 5th hole and assisting with the retaining wall work—his contribution has been immense. Thanks, Swampy—you are absolutely amazing and greatly appreciated by us all.

On the infrastructure front, here’s a quick update regarding our temporary office and facilities. From next week, the temporary office will be relocated slightly closer to the new clubhouse building. This adjustment will allow us to create space for ongoing landscaping work, including the completion of a concrete pad in front of the new cart shed.

Additionally, the temporary toilets currently in place will be removed to allow car park works to progress. New portable toilets will be positioned near the 10th tee, outside the construction fence. This will provide a more convenient location, especially as you enter and exit the course, and they’ll also be slightly closer to the marquee—which is definitely a bonus. These temporary arrangements will remain in place until we officially move into our new clubhouse.

Finally, please join us next Friday, 19 June at 3:00pm in the “Plastic Palace” as we celebrate and thank two true stalwarts of the club—Colin and KD. This will be a fantastic opportunity to recognise and appreciate their tremendous contributions over the years. I encourage as many of you as possible to come along and be part of the celebration.

Thank you all for your continued support and patience during this exciting period of development.

New Club house - Something to Get Excited About

There’s some fantastic progress happening on site! The acoustic ceiling tiles look absolutely wonderful. Walking through the space, the difference in sound is already noticeable—the acoustics are impressive even without the carpets or furniture in place yet.

The back of the café is really coming together and looks amazing with the chosen tiles, creating a warm and inviting feel. Meanwhile, the back of the bar is shaping up beautifully, with the striking black vertical flowing lines adding a modern and stylish touch.

It’s all starting to come together, and we’re getting closer to seeing the full vision come to life!

How it works

Everyone picks a team of 6 golfers. Add your best 4 of 6 golfers scores to form your team score. The best team score wins the pool. Cut golfers (and anyone who doesn’t finish 4 rounds) get 80 for any rounds not completed. Playoff holes do not count.

Local Rules Update

Protective Course Ropes

When your ball strikes or comes to rest against a protective course rope installed by the greenkeeping team, the following applies:

  • Immovable Obstruction
Course ropes and their supporting stakes are treated as immovable obstructions.
  • Free Relief Available
You are entitled to free relief if the rope or stake physically interferes with:
    • The lie of your ball
    • Your stance
    • Your area of intended swing
  • Relief Procedure
Find your Nearest Point of Complete Relief (not nearer the hole). Drop within one club-length of that point, staying in the same area of the course.
  • No Line of Sight Relief
There is no free relief if the rope only interferes with your line of play or view. In this case, play the ball as it lies or take unplayable relief with a one-stroke penalty.
  • Ball in Motion
If your ball accidentally strikes a rope or stake, there is no penalty. Play the ball as it lies.
  • Do Not Move Ropes or Stakes
Ropes and posts must not be moved or altered to improve your position. Doing so breaches Rule 14.2 and results in the General Penalty.

Please be mindful of these rules to protect both the course and fair play.

Men's World
Ben Van den Borst

It is down to the semifinals this weekend in the Handicap matchplay events.

In the Omokoroa Cup we have Peter Kilpatrick & Mark Higginson to do battle in one semifinal with Andrew Morgan & Kerry Duggan fighting it out in the other to see who can reach the Final. If Peter & Kerry happen to make the final I will have to keep them separated at the committee meetings! Although I am sure Mark and Andrew will have plenty to say about that this weekend.

In the Presidents Cup John Vartha & Nick Turner face off in one match with Jim Dunseath & Tim Stephenson squaring off in the other semi final.

Well done to all participants on making it this far in the handicap matchplay. Whoever happens to make the finals next week it will be exciting matches for us all to follow.

For all other golfers we have the usual Saturday Haggle which is back to stableford competition for the next two weeks. The last couple weeks of PAR competitions has seen the golf course beat most of us down!  At the conclusion of the handicap matchplay next week we start the Carroll Cup from the 27th June, which is best 3 of 4 net round competition.

Happy Golfing everyone.
