General Managers Message
GM Update – Allan Botha
The great autumn weather continues, and with it, the smiles around the club are getting wider as our new clubhouse really begins to take shape. It’s an exciting time, and the progress is turning plenty of heads—not just within our membership, but well beyond. I’ve received numerous texts, emails, and calls from people outside our club, including members from other clubs and industry contacts, all commenting on how impressive the development looks. And they’re absolutely right—it looks amazing.
One of my favourite moments is arriving at the club and walking down from the top of the driveway. You almost find yourself looking right through the clubhouse, with the water revealing itself beyond. It’s a truly breathtaking view and a reminder of just how special our location is.
Now is the time for us to build on that excitement and bring our wider community along for the journey. When the clubhouse opens, we want it humming with activity—not just from members, but from the broader public as well. Think birthdays, weddings, corporate events, training sessions, auctions, sales—whatever the occasion may be. Every dollar spent at the club helps repay your new clubhouse and creates opportunities for future improvements and projects. It’s a win-win for everyone. So, I encourage you all to start spreading the word—connect with your friends, colleagues, and networks outside the club and get them just as excited as you are about what’s coming.

Course Etiquette – Divot & Pitch Mark Repairs
As we continue to enjoy the course in such great condition, it’s a timely reminder of the importance of simple course etiquette—particularly repairing divots and pitch marks.
Take, for example, All Blacks brothers Jordie and Beauden Barrett—great golfers who always show respect for the courses they play (even though they haven’t played ours… yet!). It’s a good reminder that looking after the course is just as important as playing it well.

On another note, I had the pleasure this week of getting out on the course with the Monday 9-Hole Neighbourhood Group. They usually tee off around 2pm, and I joined a fourball with Tom Broersen, John Paton, and Chris Lynch. Great company—and some solid golf too. Chris was in fine form, cleaning up the competition with 21 Stableford points (if memory serves me right!). It was fantastic to be out there again—a great reminder of how beautiful and peaceful our course is… at least until John starts winding Chris up!
All in all, a great week at the club with plenty to be excited about. Let’s keep that momentum going.

Another round of hard fought handicap matchplay last Saturday, and we are down to the final 16 in each of the Omokoroa Cup and Presidents Cup competitions. Some interesting match ups this week to keep an eye on for sure ! Well done to all of those still in the competitions, and good luck for you matches this week.
Our regular haggle returns tomorrow with shootout qualifying as well. This week and next Saturdays haggle competitions are PAR competitions, so you can continue the recent matchplay theme against the course in this format.
Here is to the settled weather continuing and enabling lots of golf for everyone.
Cheers
Ben

Members Please Note
Sand Bucket Returns
Sand bucket return stations are located beside the seating area at the 18th green. Please ensure buckets are emptied before returning them.
An additional green return bin is located beside the office portacom. These bins are emptied and replaced three times a week.
Leaving empty buckets at these designated return points saves a lot of time and is greatly appreciated.
Course Toilets
The course toilets have been bird-proofed for the roosting season. If doors are left open, birds get inside and leave a considerable mess.
As Mum and Dad always said — “Put the wood in the hole” (please close the door).

Green Fingers Gardens
Those of you who have been lucky enough to be on the course in the last 2 days will notice that the left side of the Tenth tee garden has finally been planted. We have been waiting for the best time of the year to plant and pending rain. Our team of Jacquie, David, Lucie, Trevor, Jenny and Sue, with the aid of Murray Wharton’s magic post hole borer planted the garden in just 50 minutes.
The red/green plants in the centre are Coprosma “Red Rage” and the grasses are Carex Flagellifera. The plants were funded though a mix donations and a small contribution from the Green Keepers Budget. Thank you to the 9 holers for their patience and to the Green Keepers for moving the tees forward to keep us safe.
You may also have noticed that there are changes happening to the garden beside the pond on the 14th Tee. This garden has been very difficult to keep in good condition and suffers from flooding during weather events. In consultation with Swampy (who funded the plants for this garden), a decision has been made to resite existing surviving plants and retire this garden to grass. A big thank you to David for undertaking the lion share of this work.
The Gardens for the new clubhouse and carpark are currently in the planning phase. There are a total of 5 gardens, some new, others replacing existing gardens and a several are a requirement of our Resource consent. Work to plant these gardens will be undertaken by the Green Fingers Group towards the end of June. We will be calling for additional volunteer support during this week. There will be a variety of jobs, both light and mid-range tasks. If you are interested in being part of the team to further enhance our beautiful facilities please let me know by txt.
