General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Kia ora Members,

Coring Week – Starting Next Week
Coring week gets underway next week. A huge thank you to the volunteers who have put their hands up to help — we truly appreciate you giving up your time to support this vital maintenance. I know many other members are also very grateful for your efforts in helping keep our course in great shape.

If you are willing and able to help, please join the crew on Monday and Tuesday next week from 10am to 2pm.

Green Protection & Traffic Management
You’ll notice Nathan placing ropes in front of certain greens to help direct traffic and ensure golf carts and trundlers stay at least 10 metres away from the greens. These ropes are there not only to protect the surfaces, but also to help visually demonstrate what that 10-metre radius looks like if it’s hard to judge by eye. Your cooperation here makes a big difference to turf health — thank you.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce that our club golf carts will soon be fitted with a GPS system. This will allow us to create geofenced areas around greens and tees to prevent carts from driving too close. The system first issues a warning, and if ignored, will eventually switch the cart off. Simply reversing out of the restricted area will reactivate the cart. I’ll keep you posted on when this system officially goes live.

Pennants & Juniors
My apologies to our Championship Pennants team — I was gently reminded last week that you are, in fact, still very much in the competition! Best of luck going forward.

A big well done as well to our junior members representing the club in pennants. It’s fantastic to see our youngsters gaining valuable match-play experience and doing the club proud.

Tree Removal Programme
Please see the map outlining the trees earmarked for removal. Some trees are being removed due to health and presentation concerns, while others are planned for removal to improve the view from the new clubhouse. Rest assured, all trees selected have been carefully considered and their removal will not affect how holes play or any protection they previously offered.

Allow to display images

The two trees on the left side of the 18th hole require special mention. These are causing issues with stray golf balls finishing on the driving range, creating a safety risk for golfers retrieving balls while practice is underway, as well as for pedestrians using the nearby walkway, which sits very close to the line of fire. Removing these trees will allow players to aim a few metres further left, greatly reducing the risk of an accident.

Another issue these trees create is heavy wear on the front-right section of the 18th tee, while the rest of the tee remains largely dormant. This is simply because the front-right area is the only spot offering a clear view of the hole — anywhere else and you’re staring straight at the driving range. While some may say you should be able to curve the ball around the trees, modern equipment doesn’t make shaping shots as easy as it once was, not only was shot-shaping more common, but those trees were also much smaller and easier to fly over.

Please add this link below the tree removal section in the news letter

Tree removal video

Approximately 70% to 90% of amateur golfers slice or fade the ball (left-to-right shot shape for right-handers). While often unwanted, it is the most common miss, frequently caused by an outside-in swing path and an open clubface, often with the driver. Conversely, professional golfers frequently prefer a controlled fade for better accuracy.

Thank you, as always, for your understanding and ongoing support. It’s greatly appreciated.

Thank You to Marshall Group

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Israel Ellis and the team at Marshall Group for their generous sponsorship of the bar portacom during our clubhouse rebuild.

The portacom has been a fantastic asset throughout the build, allowing us to continue selling drinks, welcoming members and guests, and most importantly, keeping the club spirit alive while our new clubhouse takes shape.

We are incredibly grateful for Marshall Group’s support and community-minded approach. To learn more about their services and offerings, please check them out by following this link.

Funding Update – Great News!

We’re pleased to share some very good news with members. Our application for financial support toward our audiovisual (AV) costs has been successfully approved by the Mackay Strathnaver Trust, with the club being awarded a grant contribution of $8,850.00.

This funding is a significant step forward and will greatly assist us in putting reliable communication systems in place, which are essential for the ongoing operation and development of the club.

A special thank you to Rhonda for her efforts in helping explain to the trustees the role of the club and the importance of improving our communication capability. Your support made a real difference.

In further positive news, our funding application to the Lion Foundation has now been submitted. Hoping for another successful outcome!

Kind regards,
Sue Dark
