Last-Minute SGM Reminder – Tonight, Friday 27 February at 7pm

As this newsletter goes out, we are in the process of setting up for the Special General Meeting taking place tonight, Friday 27 February at 7pm at the Omokoroa Pavilion.

This is an important evening for the Club. Please take a moment to pop in and cast your vote on the New Draft Constitution and the membership fees.
Your participation is valuable and appreciated.

See you soon.

A Promising Stretch of Summer Weather

With the fantastic weather this week, we’re hopeful this is finally the summer run we’ve all been waiting for. The course team has been hard at work, and you’ll notice several improvements taking shape around the grounds.

Course Maintenance & Improvements

10th Hole Fencing
The new fence on the 10th is performing exactly as intended. A second fence on the right-hand side is still to be installed to better protect the neighbouring houses down the right side of the 10th fairway. This work is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

Post & Chain Areas – 4th and 6th Holes
A topic raised at the recent Players Group meeting was the purpose of the post-and-chain areas. After reviewing all relevant information, we would like to remind members that these are in place to manage cart and foot traffic for all golfers. Both areas are low lying and prone to waterlogging, which leads to rapid turf damage. These measures are essential to protecting playing surfaces and keeping the course in top condition.

5th Hole Upgrade Works

Work on the 5th is progressing well. This project includes improvements to the cart path, as well as significant drainage upgrades both around and beneath the 5th green surrounds. The area is also being reshaped to provide a firmer, drier, and more consistent playing surface.

Many members will be familiar with the persistent boggy patch between the cart path and the 5th green—even in mid-summer. The current upgrade aims to eliminate this issue for good.
Nathan, our Head Greenkeeper, is supervising the project, with Colin and KD completing the on-groundwork. Once finished (4 to 5 weeks), the area will be inspected and formally signed off.

You can view the latest progress video here.

Please remember that while this work continues, all play is to be directed to the temporary green cut short and right of the 5th green.

Topsoil Reuse & GUR Areas

Topsoil removed from the 5th is being repurposed to create mounding over former tree-stump sites on the 9th and 1st holes. These areas will be grassed once shaped.
For now, these sections are GUR – Ground Under Repair, and relief must be taken under Rule 16.1 (Abnormal Ground Conditions).

Reminder: Food & Beverage Restrictions

A friendly reminder that under the conditions of our current liquor licence:

  • Members and guests may not bring their own alcohol into the marquee or onto the golf course.
  • Additionally, no outside food is permitted inside or around the marquee or the Caddie Shack area

This is due to food safety regulations, health and safety requirements, and contractual obligations with the Caddie Shack operator.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping the club meet its compliance obligations

The Caddie Shack – Our Culture & Goals

We put a lot of care and effort into making sure you get the best food and service we can offer. Our days start around 6:30am as we prepare for the busy days ahead.

We know our time here is temporary, but while we’re with you, our goal is simple: great food, warm service, and a welcoming spot for everyone to enjoy. Even with limited facilities, we hope you’re loving what we’re putting out.

If there’s something special you’d like, just let us know early in the day — we already cater to a few regular requests and are always happy to help where we can.

A big thank-you to all the members who continue to support us and appreciate the effort behind the scenes. Your encouragement truly means a lot.

Keep an eye out for new offerings as the cooler weather arrives, along with our daily changing combo specials.

Thanks again for your support.

A great day last Saturday with the field taking on the Blue tees for the day in great weather,  the challenge was enjoyed by (nearly) everyone. Was a few less twos struck last week so maybe some work is needed on those mid to longer approach shots lads. What was struck was the Hidden Holes jackpot, congrats to Jarrod Edwards who took home $300. The twos jackpot was not struck though so lets see if we can improve some approach play this weekend and take home the jackpot.

This Saturday we have division 1 playing of the Blue Tees and Division 2 and 3 playing of the Whites.

Next Saturday is the first round of this years pairs competition, first round is the best ball net on each hole followed by the Canadian foursomes round the following Saturday.  Organise your pair and when you put your card in there will be a section to link you and your partners scores together. If you haven't got a partner book as normal and we can help pair you up on the day.

Next Sunday 8th of March we are hosting Bay of Plenty Intermediate and Junior pennants , we need some helpers on the day to assist with starting matches and collating scores at the end of the day. If you are interested and available to help please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz or see Kerry Duggan. Many thanks to Dave Ashton for assisting with the Championship pennants which we hosted last Sunday.

Pennants Update:

Another tough day for our pennant teams on sunday, some slick greens at other courses are testing our players skills for sure. The Seniors went down 1-5 to Te Teko at Te Puke GC, our intermediates hard a tough assignment playing Omanu at their home and lost 2-3, while the juniors battled hard and came away with a tie in their match with Omanu which was also at Omanu.

Our championship team get back onto the course this Sunday at Kawerau, hoping for a good result but we always have a tight battles with Opotiki who are our opponents this week.

Happy golfing everyone
