General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Clubhouse Progress
It’s fantastic to see the rapid progress on our new clubhouse. On Monday, I had the privilege of walking through the build with our Club Project Manager, Fintan Downes, and Project Manager Glenn Temple. The outlook is absolutely stunning, and the overall feel of the new clubhouse is something we can all be genuinely excited about.

Here are a few photos to wet your appetite and give you a glimpse of what’s coming.

Course Update — 10th Fairway
Thanks to the rain we’ve had recently, the 10th fairway now has enough coverage and growth that we can return to placing the ball within a club length, no nearer the hole. Great news—no more needing to tee it up on the fairway!

Hole in one

Congratulations to Paul Hodson who got a hole in one on the 11th, on Thursday.

Upcoming Event — Vets Pairs 54-Hole Tournament
Next week we welcome the ever-popular Vets Pairs 54-Hole Event, superbly run by Ian and Ian. The field was fully subscribed weeks ago—well done, gents. Now we just need the weather to play its part.

Health & Safety Reminder — Driving Range
A reminder to all members and visitors:

  • Golfers playing the 9th or 18th have right of way when retrieving balls from the range area.
  • Range users must wait until players have cleared the area before continuing to hit.
  • We also remind everyone that the range has a maximum safe hitting distance of 180 metres
If you’re having an off day and sending the driver onto the 9th or 18th fairways, please switch to a shorter club and keep the balls in play.
And if you need a little help straightening things out, Coach Andrew or Stacey will be more than happy to assist.

Please note that we are looking at solutions to help golfers keep their tee shots on the course by improving tee shot angles off the tee.

Thanks everyone, and enjoy your golf!

Weekly Member Drop-In Session

In an effort to ensure accurate information is shared and to keep communication open, I will be making myself available on Monday, 16 February 2026 in the Marquee from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm

Feel free to grab a coffee and join me to discuss any issues, concerns, or ideas you may have. If I don’t have an immediate answer for you, I will make sure to follow up as soon as possible.

Your feedback and questions are always welcome—let’s keep the conversation going!

Message from the Omokoroa Golf Club Board:

The Board has now released the Draft Constitution and the resulting draft Club Operating By Laws and Rules. If you haven’t received them, please contact the office or see attached.

These documents are the result of NZ Golf's Constitution Template, discussions with various Clubs from around New Zealand and your own Board.  Finally, we had a review by Cooney Lees Morgan Specialist Constitution Team.

We urge you to read them and any suggestions or changes you have, bring them to your next Player Group meeting at which Board Representatives will attend, or alternatively drop them into Allan at the golf office.

As a Club we need to get this right before our SGM to ensure an acceptance of our new Constitution.

Fuel Up at the Caddie Shack – Because Golf Is Hard Enough

You spoke, and we listened.
Since we started, a number of members have shared feedback about our pies and whether we could improve the quality. While we don’t have access to a commercial kitchen to produce homemade pies, we have carefully reviewed our options and decided to change suppliers.

We’re pleased to now be offering Oven Door pies, which are well known for their quality and consistency. As with most things, better quality does come at a slightly higher cost, and for this reason we’ve had to make a small increase to the price of our pies.

We’ve kept this increase as modest as possible and remain committed to offering good value for money. We believe the improvement in quality will be worth it and hope you enjoy the change. Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

And a shout-out to our PaR n.z. Twilight Series golfers—the pre-order food option went brilliantly. Twilight players, give it a try! Your food will be ready exactly when you are… even if your swing isn’t.

Support your on-course Caddie Shack and we’ll keep the cravings (and the golf-hanger) far, far away.

PaR n.z. Twilight Series – Update

What a stunning evening we had for Round 14 of the PaR n.z. Twilight Series!

Congratulations to our winners:

Remember to take the night off cooking and support the Caddie Shack by grabbing your dinner there after golf. Great food, great atmosphere—it’s part of what makes Twilight such a fun weekly event.

The Word Around The Greens

Nathan Kerr, Head Green Keeper

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we have had some mechanical issues with both the fairway mowers.

We now have the John Deere fairway mower back and the Toro fairway mower is expected back on Monday. We have managed to mow most of the fairways, so if you notice more grass clipping’s on the fairways than there usually would be, that is because they didn’t get mowed for over a week, and with this humid, wet, hot weather conditions we are getting it doesn’t take long for the grass to grow, very rapid growth at the moment.

With the humidity, comes fungal disease pressure on the greens and tee surfaces.

You may have noticed some dark black patches on some of the greens and approach’s and also some of the tees have a similar look.

These dark patches are a summer fungal disease called Melting Out.

It only occurs during high summer temperatures with humidity.

Also we have spot sprayed some of the flat weed growing in the greens with a selective herbicide which has caused some yellowing which is a normal reaction in the first week after applying this herbicide.

We are applying quality turf specific fungicides  every 2 weeks to keep the Melting Out disease under control, also we will be Virti draining the greens and tees surfaces which is punching little needle holes deep into the profile which is also a very effective practice to help eliminate fungal disease damage as the air flow into the profile and into the root zone helps a lot.

I have talked to some other green keepers around the area and have asked them if they are suffering with the same fungal disease and they all said they are battling it on there golf courses too so it’s not just our golf course with this particular disease.

We have some blocked drains around the golf course and have exposed them so you will see a few holes that have been dug up around the course at the moment.

Next week we will be fixing these drainage issues so all the holes that have been dug up will be filled in and cleaned up.

Enjoy your golf and when the sun is out I would make the most of playing as you never know what the weather will throw at us for the remaining of the summer.

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week in perfect golfing weather we started the first of our championships with Round 1 of the Stableford Cup.  Some very good golf was played with our ladies getting in the low 20's for their stableford points.  Chris Kelly had a brilliant '2' on hole number 11.  Winners today were - Dianne Mahony, Libby Hobson, Daisy Harrison, Margaret Findsen and Jacqui Crossfield.  Maggie Seavill and Chris Kelly both received a ball.  Well done ladies.  Next week we will be having an 'away' game.

After 2 rounds of some hot golf this Saturday we have the final round of the Reg Carter Trophy. Current leaders after two rounds are the ever young Hugh Moleta and whippersnapper John Crawshaw who are both 4 under par after 2 rounds. With 10 more golfers within 4 shots it promises to be an exciting conclusion to this competition.

Both hidden holes and the 2s jackpotted last week so make sure you are in this weeks haggle to give yourself a chance to win!

Next week will be a Blue tee Haggle day, time to test ourselves from the tips. The format will be a PAR competition for the day.

The board have this week released the draft constitution for consultation, there are significant changes to how player groups will be able to operate and be governed, as well as other changes which are required under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. We will hold a meeting next Saturday 21st February for Mens Player group players at approximately 4.30pm in the Marquee. Any issues which members of the mens player group have identified can be discussed. The Mens Player Group could also present those items to the board prior to the SGM on Friday 27th February for any potential amendment or clarification. Please also provide any questions or feedback to the mens group email mens@omokoragolf.co.nz if you would prefer the committee represent your views or questions

All the best to our pennant teams representing us this Sunday across the Bay of Plenty, and as always thanks to our amazing weekly sponsors.

Happy Golfing
