General Managers Message

From the Desk of Allan Botha – General Manager

A Day with the Bashers

I finally got to play with the Bashers this past Thursday! I joined Peter Kilpatrick, Ken Holyoake, and Steve Rumney, and we played for a beer. Peter and I teamed up and managed to stay in the game until about the 5th hole (our 14th for the day), where my battery started running low and Pete was doing his best to keep our hopes alive.

Steve and Ken slammed the door shut with some great golf. Steve made a birdie 2 on the 6th, putting us dormie, and then the killer blow came on the next hole when both Steve and Ken made birdie 3s on the 7th. Needless to say, we had to buy the drinks again!
Well done, Ken and Steve – and thanks, Pete, for a great day out.

Course Etiquette Spotlight

This week’s etiquette tip is all about repairing pitch marks. Steve Bowen and Pete O’Dea mentioned that they not only repair their own ball marks but also others. I encourage all members to do the same – it improves playing surfaces and enhances the appearance of our course.
Click here to see Steve and Pete in action.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more short clips showing good etiquette around our course. Feel free to:

  • Share your standout moments.
  • Let me know who deserves a mention for always filling divots, repairing ball marks, or raking bunkers

Let’s keep Omokoroa Golf Club a great place to play!

House Accounts – A Game Changer

I noticed again this week the massive difference when players use their house accounts to pay for haggle entries instead of paying over the counter. The 18-hole ladies on Tuesday and Saturday are the champions here, with most using the new system.
Here’s a link to a video showing how to do it.

Remember:

  • Top up your account over the counter (when it’s quiet),
  • Online through the Golf NZ app (5% DotGolf convenience fee applies), or
  • Via our bank account (please reference your name and house account).

Omokoroa Golf Club Logo Review – Expressions of Interest

The Omokoroa Golf Club is currently undergoing a review process, and we’d love to involve our members. If you’re interested in participating, please submit your expression of interest by clicking Here

  • Deadline: End of December 2025
  • After submissions close, we’ll invite interested parties to a Logo Review Workshop, where you can share your views and ideas.

Weekly Member Drop-In Session

In an effort to ensure accurate information is shared and to keep communication open, I will be making myself available for drop-in sessions. Looking forward to seeing you Monday 15 December in the Marquee from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.

Feel free to grab a coffee and join me to discuss any issues, concerns, or ideas you may have. If I don’t have an immediate answer for you, I will make sure to follow up as soon as possible.

Your feedback and questions are always welcome—let’s keep the conversation going!

Volunteer Needed

We need a volunteer to help sell and deliver firewood. Kindly contact either myself or Colin Gee if you can assist – this will help cut down Colin’s hours so he can focus on more important things, like golf.

Thank you all for your continued support and for making Omokoroa Golf Club such a great community!

Men's World
Ben Van den Borst

We had amazing weather for our Christmas Hamper last Saturday and with 100 players in the field it was a great turnout. Congratulations to Jason Allport, Kerry Duggan and Graeme Muir who each won their respective Divisions and took home some amazing Hams from our long term sponsor Ben Taylor at Bethlehem Butchery, thanks again Ben for looking after our members so generously.

The mens section has a weekend off this week as the club hamper is being held this Saturday.

Next Saturday though is the start of our 2026 events with both the shootout and the summer cup beginning.

The Summer Cup this year will be played from the Blue/White combination tee and is the best 3 stableford scoring rounds over the summer holiday period, so if you are away for a week on holiday you can still complete the competition fairly easily.

We will have some small changes to our regular Saturday haggle set up, with a trial to the end of March on moving to 3 divisions across the field. We will see how that goes for the next few months. With the jackpots now operating for the Hidden Holes and 2s we think this will create a little more variety in the programme.

The Shootout will have a one off entry fee of $25, and will be the 5 best net scores across the year. Any net score posted on a Saturday competition (regardless of the tee you play from) will be eligible to count for the shootout once you have paid your entry fee. So the earlier you enter the more chances you have to get a great score to count towards your shootout total. So make sure you get your entry in next Saturday 20th December.

Hopefully the amazing start to Summer continues, and you all get to enjoy playing some awesome golf.

Thank you to all our Sponsors
Craig King - NZ Electrical, Philip Annan -Annan Law, Raewyn Stanaway -Barfoot and Thompson, Ben Taylor - Bethlehem Butchery, Chris Rhind - Stay Right Contracting

She loves Golf

End of the she loves golf programme for 2025

Over the past 6 weeks we had 20 keen women join Stacey Koppens and a team of volunteers sponsored by Raewyn Stanaway and Linley Ward from Barfoot & Thompson out on the fairways on Monday nights in skills sessions designed for connection and fun.

Last week we had our final week of ambrose.

Plenty of the women have been out on the course playing in between sessions and we hope to welcome them as members as the progress through their journey.

Big congratulations to Jane Cousens (below) who got a hole in one on the 11th hole This was Janes third round of golf after she started the 4 week ladies learn to play programme on the 10th of October and then joined she loves golf for a few weeks.

Jane was playing with Dianne Litten who has been a great support and encouragement to her and other new members to the game
