General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Dear Members,

I hope this message finds you well and enjoying your time on the fairways! I’m thrilled to share some exciting updates from your Omokoroa Golf Club.

The Tribe Has Spoken – Loyalty Program Returns!

Your voice matters, and we’ve heard you loud and clear. After receiving overwhelming feedback from our incredible members, we’re delighted to announce the reintroduction of the **10% Loyalty Program**. This decision reflects our deep appreciation for your unwavering support during this transitional period for the club. Your loyalty means the world to us, and we’re committed to showing our loyalty in return by bringing back this much-loved program. Thank you for standing by us – we’re stronger together!

While the Loyalty program returns during the transition phase, please note that it will be reviewed before we move into our new clubhouse. Updates on the Loyalty programme will be communicated to all members.

Clubhouse Development Update

Progress continues steadily on the new clubhouse build, with ground works nearing completion. Next week, a new drainage system will be installed, running beneath the 18th fairway toward the stormwater outlet. As a result, temporary changes to how Hole 18 plays will be in effect early in the week. Please follow on-course signage and staff instructions during this time.

Meanwhile, the Board is actively evaluating catering service providers for the new clubhouse. Their selection process is focused on several key factors:

  • Quality of service and food
  • Understanding of golf culture and member needs
  • Ability to host business-generating functions and events

We appreciate your patience and enthusiasm as we move closer to unveiling a refreshed clubhouse experience for all members.

Hole-in-One Heroes!

A huge congratulations to our latest aces who lit up the course this past weekend:

- Zabe Orchard, on the 6th hole

- Jonty Jenkins, on the 11th hole

- John Morris, also on the 11th hole

What an incredible feat – well done to all three! We hope the celebratory rounds didn’t hit your wallets too hard. Keep swinging for those holes-in-one!

Course Improvements – Flagstick Cups

Our greenkeeping team, led by Nathan, has been hard at work enhancing your playing experience. You may have noticed a small but impactful change: a **cup has been added to the bottom of each flagstick**. This means if you putt with the flagstick in, you can now easily retrieve your ball as you remove the flag, saving your back and protecting our cups from damage caused by digging balls out with putter heads. A small change, but one we hope makes your game smoother and more enjoyable!

Temporary Changes to Hole 18 and Practice Facilities

Please note that from Monday, November 3 to Wednesday, November 5, Hole 18 will be played temporarily towards the practice putting green due to a new drain being laid across the 18th fairway, just short of the 18th green. As a result, the practice putting green and other practice facilities will be unavailable during this period. The temporary 18th Hole will still be playing as a Par 5. We appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our facilities for the new clubhouse.

As always, thank you for being the heart and soul of Omokoroa Golf Club. If you have any questions or feedback, my door is always open. Let’s keep the good vibes and great golf going!

A Word Around The Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head Greenkeeper

Summer is definitely in the air with higher day time temperatures and longer days.

The fairways have recovered well after the coring and are in healthy condition heading into the hotter summer months.

The 10th fairway has now been sprayed with roundup to kill it off in preparation for sowing it in couch grass so in the coming week the fairway will be starting to loose its green colour and turn brown.

Once the grass is completely dead which will be in about 2 weeks, we will start preparing the surface for the couch sowing process.

The 3rd, 4th and 5th greens have been struggling with a disease called dollar spot.

We have been trying our best to get rid of it with fungicides which has helped keep it under control but the main reason these 3 greens struggle more than the other greens on the course is because of the environment they are in such as a lack of air movement which creates more humidity and dampness which fungal diseases such as Dollor Spot thrives in.

Also how wet that particular part of the golf course is with how low lying it is and with a creek system that is struggling to keep up with the extra water that is being fed into the creek from extra run off from surrounding developments, council is well aware of the problems we face with this particular creek and a meeting with council on sight has been organised to talk about a solution for the future.

Moving forward me and the team will have to treat these 3 greens differently with how we maintain them such as more aeration practices, more fungicide applications and just a little more time spent on them to keep them healthy.

Enjoy your golf and the sunshine??

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week in weather that was perfect for golf - no rain - no wind - warm conditions - we played a team nett Ambrose. Some extremely good scores were gained.  First on the front nine were - Diana O'Brien; Maria Wragg; Robin Lusby and Molly Dean.  First on the back nine were - Robyn Falconer;  Kathy Capp; Astrid Martin and Alana Holmes.  Well done ladies.  One team managed to get a 'two' - they received a ball each - Jacqui Kerr, Dianne Litten, Joy Stewart.  Congratulations.

Our Stroke Play winner and runner up will represent our nine hole ladies at the Champion of Champions at Mt Maunganui this coming Monday.  Best of luck to Sue Smith and Rohanne Hancock.

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

A few new items this week — great to see the building site nearing completion for the levels! It’s exciting to watch the progress as everything comes together.

The retractable hose outside the lower cart sheds will soon have a partner and the compressor will be available for cleaning carts and shoes.

This Sunday is our Junior Open, with tee-off at 7:30 a.m. If you’re keen, pop down and follow some of our exceptional Bay Juniors in action.

We had a great night at Wednesday Twilight — a really fun par-3 course set up by Kerry. A big shoutout to Par NZ for their generous sponsorship, and thanks also to Sarah from Bayleys, Mike and Jo Deane from Mike Deane Motors, The Clubroom, One Staff and  GlenDimplex New Zealand who continue to support our events. Your sponsorship is truly appreciated!

Cheers to our wood splitters — Graeme Street and Dave Ashton — for doing a great job keeping the firewood sales going.

A big thanks as well to Colin Gee and KD for their tireless efforts around the club, and to Jacqui Ashton and the team for battling to keep up with the garden weeds.

Let’s hope summer has finally arrived! Take care everyone — and as always, happy golfing!
