General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Dear Members,

As we move further into spring, I’d like to share a few important updates from around the club.

Clubhouse Demolition Update

The demolition of our beloved clubhouse is nearing its final stage. We appreciate your patience and support throughout this process. Groundwork for the new build will begin shortly, marking an exciting new chapter for Omokoroa Golf Club. We’ll keep you informed as progress continues.

Greenkeepers and Volunteer Safety

Allow to display images

A friendly reminder to all golfers: our greenkeepers and course volunteers have right of way at all times. Please wait until they have completed their tasks and give you the all-clear before proceeding with your shot. Their safety—and yours—is our top priority.

Bar Loyalty Program

Please note that the bar loyalty program is currently suspended. This decision has been made in light of the clubhouse rebuild, and the program will be reviewed once the new facilities are operational. We appreciate your understanding.

Foreshore Erosion Repairs

Repairs to the foreshore erosion area are scheduled to begin late next week. This is just a heads-up that you may notice materials and equipment being delivered between the 16th tee and 17th green. We’ll provide more detailed updates closer to the time, so please keep an eye out for notices.

Marquee Wind Safety Procedure

With wind warnings in parts of the country, we’ve set precautionary measures for the safety of staff and members using the marquee:

The Marquee provider confirmed that the wind speed trigger is 80 KPH, before any further strapping would be required.

  • Normal movement is expected, but if wind reaches 40 KPH, staff will assess conditions and may temporarily close the marquee and bar.
  • If wind exceeds 50 KPH, the marquee and bar will be closed immediately until conditions are reviewed.
  • Wind is being monitored locally by a club member and marquee provider 12 Tables, who will alert us if action is needed.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety. If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to reach out to the office.

Concrete Pour & Cart Path Progress

Another successful concrete pour was completed by Colin Gee and our amazing team of volunteers. The 1st hole cart path is nearing completion. A huge thank you to the Vets and 18H Ladies player groups, who each donated $1,500 towards the latest pour—your support is greatly appreciated!

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week with 31 players, we had a four ball best ball competition.  Some very good scores were handed in.  As this was a team of four effort (although some teams were made up of three members!) - we took the best stableford points for each hole.  Winners on the front nine were - Debbie Hardaker; Sue Smith and Lynnie Lind.   Back nine winners were - Margaret Findsen; Sue Halsey; Robin Lusby and Diana O'Brien.  Well done to you all.  It was mentioned that the course was in good shape considering the storms we have had in the past, hence the good scores.  Good golfing.???????

Results for yesterday’s informal competition.

With our Competition Rounds now complete we played a round of Canadian Foursomes.

The format was Net.

Captain Allan Hoskins gave us detailed instructions on how to play this (unfamiliar to many) particular game.

A beautiful if a little windy morning gave us a good chance to learn and enjoy something new.

Each Foursome was split into pairs and the average of each pair’s combined handicap was used to determine the Haggle winners.

Haggle prizes went to:

Front 9

1• Paul Cole and Larry Stocks                  26.5

2• Rinaldo Gruber and Steve Crossfield   28.5

Back 9:

1• Tom Martin and Murray Telfer               29.0

2• Jim Avis and Mike Wall                         30.5

Raffle prizes were won by:

Allan Hoskins, Alan Winter and Denis Douglas

The Lucky Draw went to Mark Allen

Next week, 30th October we play Waltzing Stableford

A fantastic conclusion to the Mens Strokeplay Championships last Saturday, with the senior division not being decided until the last putt of the championship.

Congratulations to Jordan Shaw who managed a one stroke victory over runner up Ravi Shearman in the seniors. The intermediate division was won by Roy Hyland with Rob Lee runner up. The junior division was won by Gary Marshall with Greig Neilson runner up, and Graeme Muir is the champion in C-Grade with Ian Walker runner up. Congratulations to you all and of course you are now all eligible for the Grand Slam being played on Saturday 8th November, tee times will be posted for all Grand Slam participants.

The shootout finalists have also been found with the last round of qualifying being played on Saturday as well. Congratulations to the 19 golfers that have made it into the shootout, it looks like a very competitive field so whoever comes out the winner this year will have played some great golf. Good luck to you all next Saturday 1st November for the shootout. Also many thanks in advance to our Sheriff Brian Page, and Deputy Sheriff Kevin Donald, who will be keeping an eye on you all this year for the shootout.

This year we are not running a Calcutta for the shootout as the Marquee probably is not the easiest venue to manage one. Instead we are running a shootout sweepstake, each ticket is $100 and with only 19 tickets you have to be fast to get in. Approximately half of the tickets sold at prizegiving last weekend so if you want to get into the sweepstake please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz or message/call myself on 027 5244650 asap. The first 5 placegetters in the shootout will win their sweepstake ticket holder a fantastic prize.

A reminder that the Mens AGM will be held at the conclusion of the Grand Slam and haggle on Saturday 8Th November. It would be great to see as many of you as possible. If you have any interest in joining the men’s committee please email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz , or speak to myself, Greig Neilson or any other members of the committee if you see us around the club.

Have a great long weekend everyone, with hopefully plenty of golf!

Cheers

Ben
