Omokoroa Golf Club Update – From the Manager’s Desk

Dear Members,

A quick update from the Club as we wrap up a wet week and prepare for some changes ahead.

Firstly, thank you for your patience—due to extremely wet and soft conditions, the course was closed from Sunday through to Tuesday. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and hope the improved weather allows us all to get back out there more often.

This week also marks the final days for Conrad and Tina in the café. On behalf of the entire club, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your wonderful service. You’ve been an integral part of our community, and you will be sorely missed.

We’re pleased to welcome Kelli Simpson, who will be taking over the catering services. Kelli will operate from the existing café and kitchen area while the clubhouse remains. Once the clubhouse is demolished, she’ll continue serving members from a food truck on site. Please take a moment to introduce yourselves and give Kelli that warm Omokoroa Golf Club welcome we’re known for.

Please remember if you’d like to be part of the New Logo for OGC Committee, please submit your expression of interest by clicking the link: Click Here

Thanks again for your continued support.

The word around the Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head green keeper

Spring is definitely in the air with some warmer temperatures on the rise, unfortunately the rain has still been fairly consistent with an average rainfall amount of 150ml a month for the last 5 months, bring on summer.

Coring starts this coming Monday the 1st of September.

We will be coring all the Tee surfaces, the tee markers will be moved onto the red plates at the start of the fairways for the duration of the week so we can get the Tee coring complete asap, after the Tees have been completed we will start coring the fairways.

The practice bunker has now been marked as GUR, it is becoming a problem for golfers playing down the 9th hole landing in it.

Also the work around the new 1st hole cart path is GUR as we have sowed grass seed, this area needs time to establish before playing golf shots off it, so please take a drop out of this area if you land in it please.

Enjoy your golf.

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

On a stunning weather day, we played 'Pink Ball'.  This was a team effort where players took turns to tee off with the pink ball and the stableford they scored on that hole counted towards their team score.  Losing the pink ball was disqualification and without mentioning names one of the teams lost their pink ball on the very first tee off, with much hilarity from onlookers.

We had prizes for the front and back nine and the winners were - Rohanne Hancock, Robyn Falconer, Robin Lusby, Joanne Hooper, Janet Burmeister, Debbie Hardaker, Jacqui Crossfield and Dianna O'Brien.

Our interclub team finished their competition for the year last Monday and came a very respectable fourth overall.  They played at Mount Maunganui - in the rain - so well done team.

Our nine hole ladies are representing us at Fairview Golf Club in the Dorothy Garland Tournament along with the 18 hole ladies, on Monday September 1.  Good luck ladies.

Vets Vibes
Ian Howells

Wednesday the 27th August was Bayleys day.  There was a Stableford haggle and Nett qualifying rounds were held for the Coffee Club shootout competition for both men and women. A smaller field took part due to an unfavourable weather forecast and a golf course that was soft after 3 days of being closed because of the wet conditions.
