General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Dear Members,

Things are happening!
It’s great to see all the player groups starting to move their treasures into the storage containers. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen — your efforts are truly appreciated.

Board Meeting Update
This past Monday, I attended my first Omokoroa Golf Club Board meeting. I was genuinely impressed by the board’s commitment and focus. They’re working hard to meet targets and ensure the club runs as effectively as possible. More updates will be shared by the board in due course — stay tuned!

On the Course
Last Saturday, I had the privilege of playing a round with our Club Captain, Greig Neilson, in the haggle. While our contribution mostly went to the prize pool, and we lost the beers to Daz and James, it was a fantastic experience. Thanks, Greig!

On Wednesday, I joined the Vets for a sunny round of golf. My fourball included Ron, Roger, and Sunny. While our golf wasn’t exactly championship-level, the laughs and sunshine made it a memorable day. Roger shared some wonderful stories about the club’s 25th anniversary and his excitement for celebrating the 50th next year — especially in our new clubhouse!

A Piece of History
Speaking of history, if anyone has a copy of Roger’s book about the history of Omokoroa Golf Club, I’d love to borrow it for a read. Please bring it along or drop it off at the office.

A New Look for a New Era
With the new clubhouse on the horizon, it might be time for a fresh look! Greig mentioned the idea of a new logo for the club, and Sue Dark has formally requested it be added to general business at the board meeting. So now, we’re turning to you — our members!

If you’d like to be part of the New Logo for OGC Committee, please send your expression of interest to me at https://form.jotform.com/252325554729058

Let’s shape the future of our club together!

A Note from Stacey

I’m excited to share that I’ll be shifting my focus more towards my coaching work, which has always been a real passion of mine. This means I’ll be stepping back from my role in the office, but you’ll still be seeing me around the club in a different capacity.

The club means so much to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work and support both the members and the wider community through my time in the office. I’ve loved being part of the day-to-day running of the club and getting to know so many of you through this role.

While this is a change, it’s certainly not a goodbye. I’m looking forward to continuing to contribute to the club through my coaching and staying involved in the growth of our community.

Thank you for all the support and encouragement it has meant a great deal to me.

Job Opportunity

With this being said there is now a role at the club for someone who would like to take part in our wonderful team and support our club members with the day to day operations. We are looking for someone to cover Friday the full day and possibly Sunday half day - if this sounds like you then please get in touch with Allan with your CV

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

This week, with the weather and the course looking great we had a fun club day.  We played Mulligans with a stableford haggle.  We had a field of 30 ladies - must be the sunshine bringing people out to play golf.  Jacqui Crossfield had a 'boomer' of a game and came first with 22 stablefords points.  Yvonne Hoskins came second with 21 points, followed closely by Debbie Hardaker - 20, and Lynne Lind with 19.  Good golfing girls.

Our interclub team is playing their final round on Monday (25th) against Mount Maunganui,  at The Mount! The game will be followed by the AGM and prize giving.  Good luck and thank you to all our Omokoroa ladies who have represented us well during the season playing interclub.

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

Firstly, my sincere apologies regarding the recent note about Doug De La Tour’s passing. I had been misinformed, it was not our past member. I am very sorry for this mistake.

Congratulations to Joseph Lavender, winner of the Junior Stroke Play on Saturday, a fantastic achievement!

The first hole cartpath is progressing well, with the boxing for the turning bay nearly complete – watch this space for updates.

A reminder that firewood is available – please book with Colin on Ph 027 577 1987.

On course care: I’ve noticed a large number of unrepaired divots recently. Many sand buckets I collect are still full.  Please make a big effort to repair your divots with the sand provided, or replace the actual divot where possible. Thank you. On a positive note, pitchmark repair is improving – let’s keep that going!

Don’t forget to book your spot for our Saturday Fundraiser on 6th September. We have a fantastic prize table – so bring your wallet and come along to support.

Finally, a big thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers – your contribution is greatly appreciated.

Happy golfing.
