2025 AGM

Our AGM is scheduled for Thursday 26th June, commencing at 7.00pm in the clubhouse.

The key purpose of the AGM prescribed in our constitution is for the election of officers and members of the board, together with the consideration of financial statements and the transacting of general club business.

All elected positions are contestable and nominations must be signed by two voting members and the candidate, and must be deposited at the club office by no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 4th June.

The constitution provides that the 6 person board offer 3 positions on annual rotation.  This year the positions held by board members Lynda Smith, Max Greer and Ken Shirley are contestable.  Both Lynda Smith and Max Greer have advised they will not be seeking re-election.

John Marsh, our president, has indicated his availability to re-stand for the position of president and our club captain, Daryl Muir has flagged his preparedness to again serve as club captain, but also wishes to nominate for the board.  However, both have indicated that they would happily relinquish their current roles if suitable candidates were forthcoming and nominated.

The period for nominations is now open and nomination forms may be obtained at the club office.

If any members have topics they would like to have discussed under general business, we would appreciate forward notice, although this does not preclude any relevant matters being raised from the floor at the AGM.

A formal notice of the AGM will be circulated to all members at a later date.

Ken Shirley
Chairman

Great to see the hard work on the course paying dividends.  Thank you to the Greenkeepers for their efforts.  Also thanks to all the volunteers for their help.

The one area where everyone can help is the use of sand buckets.  With the course softening up and the cooch beginning to hibernate we are all taking divots when we play.  Please take your sand bucket with you and fill in your divots.  The sand is the perfect medium for regrowth on our fairways.

Also keep repairing all the pitch marks you see on our greens.  Make sure your pitch repair tool is the first thing in your pocket when you play.  We all want perfect greens so please make an effort over the winter period.  Please ensure that when it says “Carts on Paths only” that you stick to the paths and walk to your ball, check what is written on your card for the days play.  We would hate to have to suspend somebody’s cart from the course because they are not following the rules of the day.

Sandra and myself are reviewing the practice balls and should have more in play shortly.

Thank you to all those that are making an effort to look after our course.

This Saturday is the 3rd round of the Captains Trophy, with some impressive scoring in the first two rounds so far. With the best 3 of 4 stableford scores counting will be interesting to see who can be the first to put 3 solid rounds together and set the clubhouse lead for the final week! It has also been great to see some really good numbers entering Mens Saturday golf over the last few months.

Saturday Golf on the 24th May will be the final round of the Captains trophy, but is also the qualifying round for the Handicap Matchplay which starts on the 7th of June. The top 64 net scores will qualify for the Handicap Matchplay competition. First round matchplay winners will continue playing for the Championship, while first round losers have a second bite at the cherry by playing for the Presidents Cup. If you are entering the Handicap matchplay please make sure you will be available to play for the entire competition!

We also have Handicap Pennants starting soon with the first round scheduled for Sunday the 15th of June. Greig Nielson is the co-ordinator of the Handicap Pennant team this year and thanks to those that have registered their interest to play so far. If you wish to be considered for the team please let Greig know or email men@omokoroagolf.co.nz to register.

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

Big Shout out the Ian Graham and his Vets team for a very successful Strokeplay champs.

The final day was played in stunning conditions and saw some great scores.
Our ladies champ this year is Maxine Cotter well done.
The senior men’s champ is Evan Atken playing very consistent golf.
Dale Chadwick is our Intermediate champ this years also posting some good scores
Swampy is the Junor champ his years who managed to actually play some half decent golf

Congrats to all the winners on the day, a great turnout of over 80 members.

On a more sober note, we mourn the loss of Dawn Pirani, a very popular 9 hole golfer Dawn was a pearl of a lady, and we will all miss her. Our deepest sympathy to Brian Pirani and the family, our thoughts are with you.

Thank you to all our members who support the club and our sponsors who we wouldn’t be without.
