Bon Voyage and top o the mornin To Hugh Clark he is off to Ireland for a month where  he can watch the all blacks play Ireland from an Irish Pub!  You cant beat a pint of Guinness at about 8.00am in the morning Hugh !!

Firstly congratulations to the Semi finalists of the Omokoroa Cup and the President's Cup the quarter finals were somewhat affected by the wet conditions but well done to those who have braved the elements over the past couple of weeks The  Semi Finals are to be played this  Saturday  2nd july Brian Gill plays Paddy Hawkins(Brothers in law family feud) and George Griffin plays Nick Gray in Omokoroa Cup (11.00am off 1) James Graham plays Pete Stallard and Colin Gauld plays Dave Hughes in President's cup (11.07 off Tee 1) we wish you well Note the ":FINALISTS" will go in to the Grand slam at the end of the year.

Weather permitting the finals will be held on Sat the 9th July

Looking ahead to the following two weeks (16th and 23rd July) will be the new format Senior Junior competition which is now simply a pairs tournament.  So just pick a partner (off any handicap) for those two weeks the 16/17 handicap threshold limit does not now apply.  Same competition rules will apply i.e. two weeks of combined nett scores .  We encourage people to play in their pairings as this simplifies the  job for the organizers so if you can book in, in your pairings that would be very much appreciated.

Looking further ahead the Omokoroa STROKE PLAY Championship starts on sat 30th July and will run for four consecutive Saturday's. This is an auto entry for all full paying members of the club (there is no entry fee) but the normal $10.00 haggle fee will be in operation for those who only want to participate in the  haggle on the day. which will then be split into a blue tee haggle and a white tee haggle.  The Stroke play competition is played in four divisions and is a GROSS score competition and all four rounds count.  With the new handicap system changing daily you will remain in the division in which you commenced the stroke play championship no matter what your daily handicap may be!!  This may however affect your ability to play in both the haggles and the stroke play so please bear with us whilst we work our way through these little dilemmas.

Senior Div  up to 9.4 Blue Tees
Intermediate Div  9.5 to 15.4 Blue Tees
Junior Div 15.5 to 21.4  White Tees
C Grade 21.5 to 36.0 White Tees

Unfortunately shootout scores for this period do not count as the Senior and intermediates play off blue tees and the juniors and C grade play off white tees (Computer wont let shootout scores apply)

This week’s focus was our annual fundraiser for the Waipuna Hospice. We had a great variety of shorts, the shortest, the most colourful, the wearable arts, the beach style. It was great to see everyone get into the spirit for such a great cause. Look out 2023! By playing each nine twice the starters were able to accommodate those playing in carts. The competition was each team of high/ low handicap players multiplying their stablefords together. Everyone was a winner with some receiving novelty prizes. $1000.00 was raised through donations, haggle monies, raffles and the Sales table.

Resullts-Saturday: 1st  Sue Reese, 2nd Kellie Orchard, 3rd Janice Bell

Tuesday: Everyone.

The Week Just Passed.
Winter golf is definitely getting busy, especially for the men who play Vets golf.  Last Monday the men played Quads at Omanu and next Monday they have their first BOP Vets competition for a wee while at the Mount.

Last night our club’s AGM was held and it was great to see a good number of people attending. Mostly the hardy annual’s were raised but it was refreshing to have Colin Gee and Rob Mitford Burgess talk about proposed developments around the course and for Linda Smith to speak on the development of a strategic plan for the club.

Care of our course
Thanks to the cart users for the care they are giving our course through this extraordinarily wet period.  Those of us who push trundlers need to be just as mindful.  The middle part of the second fairway is cutting up badly due to players insisting on walking the middle of the fairway with their trundlers.  Keep to the left rough folks.  It’s not hard to do.

Results for 25 May

Yesterday’s second round of the Kiwi Allstars vs Rest of the World competition was postponed on account of the wether and the unavailability of the Front 9.
Instead 21 of us played an informal round of Stableford on the Back 9. The fairways were wet but the greens were fast, not too bad.

We played one Division and the Haggle money went to:
Thomas Hansen                22
Frank Baggenstos              19
Frank Lamborn                  17

There was no Raffle.

Next week we return to our Regular Competition round weather permitting. The long range forecast doesn’t look promising.
