Vets Vibes

The Week Just Passed.
A good turnout of hardy golfers this week, despite the very heavy and wet underfoot conditions.  I am not sure that in my six years as a member I have ever seen as much water lying on the fairways. Nathan told me on Wednesday that 180mm of rain had fallen in the last eight days!! It will take some great weather to dry the course out so take care of it please, on the greens, around the greens and on the fairways.  In these conditions trundlers can also do damage.

Results for 25 May
40 men and 10 ladies played on Wednesday.  Respective winners were:
Ladies – Robyn Alabaster 32 s/ford points, Jenny Shirley 31, Judy Lewer 31.
Men, Division 1 – Brent Slater 38pts, Ken Joyce 37, John Holloway 36
Division 2 – Anton Coetzee, Peter Arnesen and Bryan Barnes all with 43 points.

Ken Joyce has moved to the top of the log in the Men’s Shootout whilst Hap Sutherland was the big mover jumping from 22nd place to 10th. Lois Amaru maintains her lead in the ladies shootout.

Dates to keep in mind
15 June – Omokoroa Vet’s Mid-Winter Tournament
27 June – Vet Men’s Omokoroa Country Estate sponsored Quad’s at Omanu (The entry form is up in the men’s locker room)

Sunvue Strokeplay Championship.
We had to postpone the third round on Wednesday due to golf carts not being allowed on the course.  The third round will now be played on July the 13th and the final round on July the 27th.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

Yesterday was another dismal day, certainly not conducive to good golf, when will the rain ease up??  Thursday 9th June was the Semi-final Round of our Matchplay Competition to determine the four pairs to play off in next week's Final Round!
The rest of the field played Net on a very wet and muddy Front 9 and most gave up as the rain settled in! Needless to say any thought of a Haggle was quickly abandoned.
The semi-finalists successfully braved it out on the back Nine and we now have the following Pairings for the Matchplay Finals to be played on Thursday 16th June.

Division 1 Matchplay Championship: Tom Hansen v Frank Baggenstos
Division 1 Matchplay Consolation Plate: Frank Lamborn v Frank Brown

Division 2 Matchplay Championship: Spencer Tankard v Bruce Baggenstos
Division 2 Matchplay Consolation Plate: Horton Schofield v Peter Davies

The final Rounds will be played on the Back 9 with the rest of the field playing Stableford on the Front 9.

Last week I omitted to congratulate Frank Lamborn for beating Trevor Smith in this year’s Division 1 Strokeplay Final.  Frank is now our Division 1 Strokeplay Championship Winner for 2022.  Let’s see if Frank can follow this up with another win in his Matchplay game next week!!

While there was no Haggle we did have a Raffle.  Raffle winners were Daisy H, Yvonne Hoskins and Frank Brown.

Congratulations to all and best of luck to next week’s Final's contenders.

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day
Hopefully we will complete the first round of the Handicap Matchplay Championships for the Omokoroa Cup this Saturday. All the first-round losers will go into a plate draw for the President's Trophy. The weather forecast looks terrible, so if the Course is closed, the round will be extended until next Saturday. If the course is open the matches must be played. Some players may have to default their matches if the use of carts is not allowed and they aren't keen to walk around the Links. Those players who default will go on to compete for the President's Trophy. This spell of wet weather is making things very difficult for playing golf.

Interclub Pennants for the Laing Cup
We have entered a team in this Handicap Interclub Competition. The draw will be coming out soon, with the first round scheduled for the end of June. Wayne (Rad) Radonich has offered to captain the Team, so anyone keen to represent the Club with some Sunday Interclub, please give your names to him or myself.
