Captains Corner
Gail Nicholls

The newly planted area on the right side of the fourth fairway in memory of Kay Ducat is to be considered as an abnormal course condition for the moment, and treated as GUR. If not already done, blue pegs will be positioned in the area.  When completed this area will have a border and be recognised as a garden and relief may be taken.

There is a suggestion box near the kitchen for members to share their ideas. Please be realistic and keep in mind that not all ideas will be possible. Brittany will do her best to incorporate some of these into her repertoire.

Remember that the AGM is on 30 June. The position of Club Captain is up for renewal due to the retiming of the AGM. I am willing to continue until next June, but if anyone else is interested, please see Marcus or myself.

Upcoming Events:

The I’Anson Trophy will be contested at Omokoroa on Sunday 12th June. Twenty players each from Omokoroa, Tepuke, Mount Maunganui, Otumoetai, Omanu and Tauranga will contest the trophy

Winter Fun Activity: Car Rally/Scavenger Hunt – End of July. Teams of up to 4 per car.

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day
We play the first round of the Omokoroa Cup (Handicap Matchplay) this week. The tee times have been booked so heck the Club website to see your start schedule. The losers from this round will go into the plate event for the Presidents Trophy. The Hidden Holes prize from last Saturday has jackpotted to this week's competition.

Eagles Foursomes Event
The Eagles are hosting this competition on Sunday 19th June at our Club. It raises funds to support Junior Golf and the Halberg Trust. The entry fee of $15 is paid on the day and with a Shotgun Start, means it is not a long day. There are a men's division and a mixed division and to date we have had great support from our Club Members. The entry list is in the Clubhouse.

Pennants Golf
Our Championship Team is playing Lakeview Team in a promotion/relegation match to stay in the Top Division. It will be played on our Omokoroa Course in the coming weeks (date TBC). This is the last round of Men's Pennants for the season. The Interclub Handicap Pennants are coming up soon and we will select team when due.

Pacific Four Series
The Womens Rugby Teams from N.Z. Australia, Canada and U.S.A. are playing a series of games in New Zealand. The first games are being played at the Tauranga Domain on Monday 6th June. The Black Ferns play the Aussies at 2.45 p.m. after the curtain raiser, USA v Canada. The ticket to watch both games is only $10, so get along and enjoy some great rugby.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

A depleted field showed up at the clubhouse for the Quarterfinal Round of our Matchplay competition.  The inclement weather obviously deterred some of you, the sky certainly living up to the forecast by releasing the occasional unwelcome shower when least expected.  Some good tussles were fought out on the greens with several pairs having to go to extra holes to find a winner on the day.  Unfortunately there were a few abstentions which meant that a few more of us proceeded to the next round on a bye.

The Draw for next Thursday 9th June has been updated and posted on the notice board.

Please advise if you can’t complete your match by next Thursday.

All Matchplay Pairs will play on the Back 9 with everyone else playing Net on the Front 9.

There was no Haggle and the low numbers precluded the Raffle for this week. We will try again next week.

The Week Just Passed
A wet, wet morning on Wednesday resulted in a handful of hardy souls turning out on what was undoubtedly a heavy track.  The scores of some belied the conditions

Results for 25 May
24 Men and 2 Women competed.  Given the conditions, great scores were posted by Peter Arnesen and Alan Mayo with both scoring 35 Stableford points.

It is not too late to enter the Naked Meats Shootout.  Qualifying continues for many weeks yet and a player’s best five net scores make up their qualifying score.  Sue Waller and Ian Graham are still taking entries for the Naked Meats Shootout.  See them with your $20.00 entry fee.

Dates to keep in mind
8 June – Round 3 of the Men’s and Women’s Sunvue Strokeplay Championship
15 June – Omokoroa Vet’s Mid-Winter Tournament
27 June – Vet Men’s Omokoroa Country Estate sponsored Quad’s at Omanu

Winter has come
By our count we have had about 90mm of rain in the past 5 days.  That has led to a very soggy course, with more rain forecast over the next few days.  Unfortunately, that has meant some disruption for cart users, but everyone has been very understanding so far.  So thanks for you patience… hopefully the course will dry out quickly and we can get back to normal!

Staff News
I am very pleased to announce Barbara Bracey has agreed to take on the 'Accounts and Club Assistant' role.  Barbara was initially employed a few months ago on a casual basis to scope a potential new role and provide support in a busy time.  Once we understood what we needed, we committed to following good procedure to recruit for the new role.  Barbara is popular with the members already, and she will continue to be a valuable member of our team.

Obituary
Swampy Marsh

I sadly report the loss of our life member Rod Keating

Rod was a true gentleman and avid volunteer to the club, specialising in financial planning.  The club in this era was undergoing many changes and struggling to increase membership, and therefore it was hard to increase further development on the course.  Rod was a very careful and precise operator and was the instigator of raising finance for our first cart shed, and the introduction of the course irrigation system.  Rod had a very good sense of humour, and living at the entrance to the club, always had a welcome wave and smile.

Rod served on many committees, was secretary for many years, Board member, and Patron.  For his many years of service to the club, he was made a life member in 2006.

Rest in peace Rod, may all your putts drop in.
