Manager's Message
Marcus Niles

It’s the silly season. I hope everyone is looking forward to ‘flushing the dunny’ on a tough year in so many ways. It’s a time to reflect on what is important and spend time with the people you love. I hope you all have a good Xmas and New Years.

This is the last newsletter for 2021. We will re-start early next year.

Catering
Sadly we are going to say goodbye to long-standing caterer Jarrod. From what I hear he will be sadly missed, but we wish him the best and hopefully we will see him around the course on the other side of the servery.

That means we are on the hunt for a new caterer. An advert will be placed in the coming days to try to fill Jarrod’s big boots.

Council Pathways
Just a reminder that council pathways are not to be used by carts, apart from the crossover from 17 to 18 and 7 to 8. Please respect this rule as we have had a message from the council to say that’s not always the case.

Greens Staff
Another reminder, particularly as our club gets busier in the mornings. Please give way to green staff. They are having to navigate around golfers more than they used to so please give them space to complete their work as best you can.

Acknowledgement
The Board wants to acknowledge and express the club's gratitude for the magnificent work that Barry Currie did in repairing the wooden retaining wall adjacent to the 14th tee that had become hazardous. He generously donated both his skills and the materials. One of our many wonderful volunteers who are ALL appreciated.

Gate by 11th Green
Just a note to members that the keypad system is likely to be changed to a ‘fob’ access in the coming weeks. Members who wish to have access to the gate will need to contact the office to arrange.

Lastly, I just wanted to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome at your club. I have been overwhelmed with the offers of support and the kind messages from our friendly club. I appreciate your patience also, as I slowly get my feet under the desk and get to grips with what needs to be done.

Special thanks to the staff who have done a great job since I have arrived by stepping up to fill gaps while I am learning the role and club. I am working hard to get up to speed as quickly as I can, and I am really excited about the club and playing my small part in improving things for everyone!

Captains Corner
Alan and Gail Nicholls

Entries are coming in steadily for the New Year’s Eve Tournament on Friday 31st December. Enjoy a great day out for only $10 per player for members.
Pre-paid entries are being accepted in the office.

It is not too late to enter the Bay of Plenty 5 Course Classic to be played from 17-21 January, 2022. Local members pay only $275 per person and rebates may be collected from the office after the tournament.

We will be calling for volunteers to perform a variety of duties during tournament week. Those of you who are ‘old hands’ and are keen to be involved, please email or text to let me know if you would like to be allocated the same task, and how many days you will be available.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

Due to the wet weather, we have to cancel the last Twilight for the year. That caused some disappointment among members who need to cook dinner. Twilight will re-commence on 12th January.

2022 Year Booklet

The 2022 Year Booklet will be available for collection from your player groups Captain/Convenor from next week. If you are not part of the playing group, you can collect a copy from the office.

It is recognised that once a booklet is printed, any subsequent changes to events will not be reflected in the booklet. Changes will however be reflected on “Event Calendar” on www.omokoroagolf.co.nz or via email advice/Newsletter from individual player groups Captain/Convenor.

A copy of the 2022 Booklet will also be uploaded to Omokoroa Golf website for on-line viewing or if you prefer to print a copy at home. You will need to login as Member on www.omokoroagolf.co.nz website. Click on “Members” -> “Golf Year Book” -> “2022 Year Book”.

The Week Ahead - Wednesday the 15th of December

Next Wednesday's Club Day is now Closing Day for 2021 and as is tradition will be celebrated with the playing of our Cross-Country event.

Please ensure you have made a booking to play but be on the course by 9.30 am. There will be a shotgun start at 10.00am. Scorecards specifically designed for the event will be issued from the starter’s office.

The last Week /Year

Why wouldn’t we finish the programmed year in the same manner as much of 2021. Stop, start, stop start, Wet, Wet, Wet.

A Special thanks from your last Committee and the new one for the support and understanding provided by members this year. We have always tried to get it right but in a year where schedules and procedures have chopped and changed mistakes have been made and mostly easily rectified. Most of you have been hugely supportive, and to the grumblers out there, you know what? When I woke this morning I was grateful to be getting ready for another day of golf.

Happy Christmas everyone. Enjoy time with friends and family and we look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

Believe the forecast or not, it was a beautiful day to farewell our Calendar Schedule for 2021.

A depleted field of 14 brave souls turned out for a regular game of Net. We didn’t bother with the Haggle or Raffle. The Fairways are mainly dry but understandably soft.

The wet greens were a challenge to putt on even down hill!!
In spite of that our small team managed some creditable scores.
Horton Schofield was a clear winner on 33 Net
Frank Brown and Kevin Crossman both came in under Par with a 35 Net.
A pleasant morning and an early finish was the Order of the Day.

6th January is our first hit-out for 2022. Mark it on your calendar.
Attached is our 9 Hole Men Programme for 2022.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year with family and friends.

Swampy’s Seasons Greetings
John Marsh

Hi Everyone. Another year has flown by. I believe our course improves every week with Nathan and his team hard at work. Thank you to all of you volunteers that help make the course what it is

Our new manager Marcus is settling in nicely with Megan offering her help with the accounts.

The new Board is already pro-active putting forward new ideas and all involving themselves in the running of the club.

Alan & Gail Nicholls in the club captain’s role are doing a marvellous job organising future tournaments, so if you do have spare time to help out I’m sure you will be welcome.

Special thanks to Jonathan and Pink for our very successful Twilight nights

My extreme thanks to all our sponsors for 2021. Without you our club days would not be possible

Also to our sections volunteers that run our club days and make them so enjoyable. I know the time and effort required

My seasons greetings to all our members, and a big thank you to all our staff members that look after the running of the club

Take care over the holidays, drive safely and enjoy your rest and family gatherings. Have a wonderful Xmas, see you at the New Years Eve Tournament

Best wishes,

Swampy
Club President
