The Week Ahead - Wednesday the 15th of December

Next Wednesday's Club Day is Closing Day for 2021 and as is tradition will be celebrated with the playing of our Cross-Country event. It is a stableford event with a difference and covers territory on the course that has become very familiar to me in recent rounds.

Please ensure you have made a booking to play but be on the course by 9.30 am. There will be a shotgun start at 10.00am. Scorecards specifically designed for the event will be issued from the starter’s office.

Twilight Update

It was a very warm evening for our Twilight this week. Weather forecast was wrong (again) as we were expecting some showers but it didn’t transpire.

We ran a Christmas fun night with a 3-Tee competition format. Some are quite happy teeing off from the Red Tee but not so from the Blue Tee. 90 players in the field with 4 visitors and everyone gets a prize !

Ben Taylor from Bethlehem Butchery donated 2 very large full legs of Ham for the Raffle. The lucky winners were Jarrod (who bought $30 worth of tickets) and Gerrit Bahlman. Very happy man as shown on photo attached. Mike & Joann Deane and Wendy Harris & Jeff Beanland won the Turkeys donated by Terry and Larraine Tocker for being the top 2 teams on the season to date Leaderboard.

Mike & Joann Deane, 17 points, are now 3 points ahead of 2nd place, with Wendy Harris & Jeff Beanland and Brett Dingle & Brad Hale on 14 points. The updated Accumulative points leader board is on the Omokoroa GC website. www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

15th December will be the last Twilight for 2021 and we will recommence on the 12th January through to 9th March 2022. Find yourself a golf partner and call me on 02108195531 to register your team.

Despite a few weather-related glitches and an over-order of hams, the Christmas tournament went ahead as planned. Thanks must go to those members who helped in the starter’s office, manned the computer and sold raffle tickets. The number of offers of help has been amazing and very much appreciated.

The entry sheet for the New Year’s Eve tournament is now in the office and pre-paid entries only will be accepted. Swampy Marsh has secured many sponsors for the day, allowing us to continue to keep the price at $10 for members.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This Saturday we play our annual Christmas Hamper Tournament. All members who have played at least 10 rounds of Saturday Competitions are eligible to enter. Please book your tee-off spot online. Anyone not sure if they qualify to enter can call me (Hugh Clark 02108788874).

The prize giving of meat packs and hams will be held at about 5 p.m. If you can’t be there to pick up your prize, please arrange for someone to pick up your loot. There will be a lucky member draw of $250 for for a player attending prize giving.

Omokoroa Open

The Omokoroa Open entries are now being taken, both online and in the Office. The Tournament is on the 15th and 16th January. As we get organised we are looking for goodies that can be included in the Welcome Packs for the players. If you can donate 120 items such as fruit, confectionery, pens, snacks, etc, then please speak to me.

The value of the prizes is over $10,000, so the winners are well rewarded, but we don’t have Trophies for the mens and Ladies winners. If there is someone who would like to donate a Cup/Trophy in memory of a loved one, please speak to Mark Middleton. We do have the Tony Hewlett Trophy for the leading master (over 40) awarded each year.

Well we certainly celebrated in style yesterday. Everyone entered into the mood of the day with lots of Xmas attire including Santa himself. The Christmas fairy and Santa’s elf came bearing some welcome cheer out on the course.

Canadian Foursomes haggle winners: Kath Fahey and Dianne Parker, runners up Margaret Griffiths and Ali Howarth, Rohanne Hancock and Judith Eaton.

The AGM and Prize Giving was followed by a delicious luncheon thanks to Jarrod and his team.

A fun day was had by all.
