Dates for your Diary

Dec. 31st 2021 New Year’s Eve Tournament (Members and Affiliated)

Jan. 15-16th 2022 Omokoroa Open (Members and Affiliated)

Jan. 17-21st 2022 Bay Of Plenty 5 Course Classic

Jan. 30th 2022 Club Opening Day

Please don’t run away when you see me (Gail) coming towards you with the Christmas Tournament entry sheet. We anticipate a full field this year and the sheet is already filling up. So keep December 4th December free.

We would like to remind you that Covid-19 is becoming more prevalent in regions outside of Auckland. We need, therefore, to remember to scan IQ codes, wear masks inside the building and try to maintain the appropriate social distance – as difficult as that may seem. We all want to ensure that our fellow golfers remain fit and healthy.

“Golf is a love affair. If you don’t take it seriously, it’s no fun; if you do take it seriously, it breaks your heart,”

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

We have 87 players playing Coloured Ball Stableford. Sadly 11 teams lost their coloured ball whilst scoring by other teams was very good.

Next week Twilight format will be Russian Roulette but with a twist. You may not be playing with your pair partner so that will keep you in suspense as to how their game is going. Just record your usual stableford score and the computer will do the rest.

The Accumulative points leader board is quite a tight race at the moment with Wendy and Jeff, Allan Hoskins, Allan Winter and Joann & Mike Deane on 10 points. Barbara Duncalf, Mary Gainford, Sunny Tay, Rohan and Pete Cooke & Keith Bardswell on 9 points. Swampy, Wilson Tamaki, Rose Thompson, Rae Milne, Steve and Dawn Rumney, Dennis Van Der Maas, Peter Tetzlaff, Ayna, Richard Apanui and Jacqui & Steve Crossfield all on 8 points. I aim to upload the weekly Accumulative Leaderboard to Omokoroa Golf website next week. So watch that space.

Jarrod is giving some thoughts on next week menu. You will no doubt receive any update from me next Monday. The lucky draw winner for a Free meal was Des Southall, whose family has been supporting Jarrod since we started Twilight on 6th October.

It’s still not too late to join us if you are keen to play Twilight. Cards in no later than 5pm for a 5:30pm shotgun start. $5 for members, $25 for visitors. Find yourself a golf partner and call me on 02108195531 to register your team.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This Saturday we play the haggle off the Yellow Tees. It will be interesting to see the scores although under the World Handicap System the handicaps should be adjusted. Nice to have the 7th and 8th holes back in action again.

BOP Champion of Champions Event

Our Men did well at Springfield on Sunday with a 3rd place in the Teams Competition. In the Senior division, Andrew Pratt finished in 4th place with rounds of 75 and 73. Ash Pennell was 7th (86 and 80) in the Intermediates. Ian Duncalf was 11th (90 and 98) in the Juniors. Only one round was played in the Presidents Grade where George Griffin shone with a 98 in 2nd place, one stroke behind the winner.

The Event was played in horrendous conditions with wind, rain and a very wet course.

Christmas Hamper Competitions

On the Saturday 4th December the annual Club Hamper Tournament will be held. The tee booking Sheet with start times throughout the day is in the office. Get your entries in now and a reminder that you must pay at the same time.

The Mens Hamper Competition is the following week on the 11th December and open to all Players who have played in at least 10 Saturday Haggles through out the year. There is just the usual entry fee of $10 and everyone gets a prize. There will be a $250 lucky member draw at the end of prize giving the day to encourage attendance

The Week Ahead - Wednesday the 24th of November

Next Wednesday's Club Day is a stableford competition for both Ladies and Men

The Week just been

A smaller than expected field on Wednesday just gone. Maybe the weather forecast again fooled a few. I have been told it was however very pleasant on the course. The course and the greens are looking and playing better day by day.

The Neil Priest Trophy was competed for on Vet’s Club Day for the second year in a row after being ‘gifted’ the tournament by a previous Club Captain. Maybe it is time for this event to return to its rightful place in the Club’s playing calendar.

Congratulations to Sandra Gee and Michael Dow, winners of the Neil Priest Trophy for 2021.

Results

Ladies – Sandra Gee 32pts, Judy Lewer 30, Cherry Reehal 30.

Men’s Div 1 – Jim McCrone 39pts, Michael Dow 37, Swampy Marsh 37.

Div 2 – Wayne Butler 40pts, Mick Wheatley 38, Ken Shirley 38.

Captain’s Comment

A request from our Club Captain – “Please ensure that you sign your scorecard. It is after all a rule of golf.”

A Worthy Cause

Jim McCrone has asked that the following be included in the newsletter.

I am running a half marathon, on weekend 27/28 November, to raise funds for the hospice.

I will run from my home in Judea, along the Omokoroa cycleway to Omokoroa Boat Club.

I have set up a 'Give a Little' page, with the following link:

Thanks, Jim McCrone
