63 players turned up for the annual Rosie Tray tournament held on 25th April. Well done to Rae and Ross Milne for winning the trophy with a combined 76 Stableford score. And congratulations to Rae Milne and Hap Sutherland who were the individual Mens and Ladies winners.

Many thanks again to both Mark and Lynda Middleton for helping to run a successful event in my absence.

I am now back in sunny Omokoroa and have caught up with some news and course matters so a bit of update from me this week.

BOP Junior Golf Development Squad

Our very own Ayna Apanui has made it into the BOP Junior Development Squad team that played in at the Pakuranga Golf Club. It was a handicap match play in 3 rounds and the BOP Junior girls team won the tournament for the 1st time ever, beating Waikato, Auckland and North Harbour.

8th Hole

I had a visit to the new 8th Hole with Nathan and KD yesterday. The new 8th Tee is pretty much ready; however, the surrounds of the green still require a bit of maintenance. We are now looking at playing on the new 8th hole sometime early June and I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

A gentle reminder, please return via 7th fairway to the temporary 8th tee until further notice.

16th Fairway

Nathan has advised the new fairway is now back in playing condition. Players do NOT need to tee up on the new grass.

As I write this I see a lovely fine autumn morning out there so a good days golf should be enjoyed by all.

In this morning's email I received notification that the 10th of May for our visit to Waihi no longer works for them due to Pennants and a Ladies BOP event, so that date is off and the new date is likely to be the 17th of May. I will confirm that asap.

Congratulations to last week's winners, some good scores were posted despite the greens still recovering from their coring. A special mention here of Kevin Smith's meritorious 40 points in the Men's Quad's at Mt Maunganui on Monday last week. Well done Kevin. Omokoroa is sitting third after two rounds but close enough to give the leaders a nudge in the next round at Omanu.

Dates to keep in mind are;

  • The next round of the Western Tray and Western Plate are to be completed by 5 May. Please ensure Ian Graham is aware of the result of your match.
  • A Vet's Men's and Ladies Interclub day at Omanu on 25th of May has been confirmed. Further details to come on that one.

Happy golfing folks.

Annan Law Saturday Men

We play the usual haggle and qualifying for the Shootout which is sponsored by “A-One Kitchens and Interiors”. Even though the greens have been recently cored they are playing well. There have been some great scores being lodged of late so come to Club Day and get amongst the action!

NZPGA Championship:  This prestigious event is being played this week at Te Puke. A few members have volunteered to be helpers and a lot of us are intending to go and watch some top golf. The tee times can be found on the website, but Kieran Muir tees off at 10 a.m. tomorrow and Caitlan Maurice follows at 10.10. Ryan Fox will draw a big gallery when he starts at 11.10 a.m.

Some would say ‘the captain’s back, so is the rain’ however we were rather lucky with the weather this Tuesday and after playing the first hole in the rain, it cleared and we had all just finished when down it came again. 26 ladies played in the Nancy McCormack Foursomes and the haggle for the day was also foursomes. Haggle winners were Debbie Clark and Annette Neeley. Nearest the pins went to Robyn Alabaster and Ann Hunter. Nancy McCormack continues next week for the Tuesday players. The Saturday ladies also play ‘Nancy’ but are doing both rounds on the same day. In sun and light winds of course!

Our Pennants Team played the first round of Silver/Bronze Matchplay Pennants here at Omokoroa last Monday on recently cored greens, not featuring in the top three clubs but nevertheless a valiant effort. Team members were Dawn Day, Barbara Aitken, Cherry Reehal, Rae Milne, Dee McCrea and Cathy Berry.

This month’s LGU winners, receiving a badge for their excellent nett round are Chrissy Anderson, Brenda Arnesen, Dee McCrea and Deborah Rose. Well done to you all.
