According to the Metservice, warmer summertime air and a stubborn high have been forecasted for a pleasant week ahead. Please make sure you are well watered and covered whilst out on the golf course.

Just a few updates from my end:

Club Opening Day (29th January)

How about kick starting our Club Opening Day with no golf clubs in hand but a fun night with food platters and a Quiz. All you need is a general knowledge, some inspired guesswork and an occasional dash of luck! Teams of up to 8 people. Cost will be $15 per person for the food and the quiz. It’s 1st come 1st serve due to the limited number of tables we have got in the club room. All entries to be pre-paid at the office. My Quiz Master is all ready for the big night.

Omokoroa Open (9th and 10th January)

I would like to congratulate Hugh Clark and his committee for running a successful tournament just over the weekend. We have had 126 players on the field and lots of fun was had at the prize giving. A big thank you to our generous Sponsor (Jim Cusdin – The Clubroom) and to our members who have supported this event.

BOP 5 Course Classic (18th – 21st January)

ParNZ are organising this popular Golf event in 2021 for 5 rounds of golf around the 5 beautiful courses in BOP (namely, Omokoroa, The Mount, Omanu, Tauranga and Te Puke). The golf course will be closed from 7:30am through to 1pm from 18th – 20th and from 10am to 4pm on 21st January. Tee bookings are available at other times.

Vet's Vibes
Scott Gwynne

All the best for 2021 folks. We are all saying it, but sincerely I hope that 2021 will be a year of smooth waters for us all. In saying that though... Last year we had as many disruptions for bad weather as we did for other reasons. Already this year the weather has had its say. Last Wednesday's Opening Day was played in sweltering heat and a few of us wilted on the day. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

2021 is going to be a busy golfing year for Vet's. I suggest you keep reading the newsletters and emails that I send out from time to time. I will do my best to keep you all informed on what's coming up.

If you haven't entered the Bob Owen's Vet's 3 Day tournament in February as yet, you need to do so. Entries are filling fast. The dates 17-18-19 Feb.

The Vet's playing calendar for the year is on the Omokoroa Golf Club Website and has been posted on the notice board in each of the locker rooms.

Well done Colin Gee. It's not every day that we score an eagle but to do it on the 5th hole on both Wednesday and Friday last week is some achievement.

Happy Golfing folks.... stat protected from the heat and the sun.

The new couch grass on the 16th fairway is growing nicely and this week has been cut with both the rough mower and also the fairway mower. So it is starting to look southing like a fairway should - hopefully it will be rolled again in the next couple of weeks. We are expecting that we will be able to bring the 16th back into play as a par 4 from the new tee block on Friday 29th January. That will come as something of a shock to the system after a couple of months playing off the temporary tee.

The 11th fairway is also progressing well and will be about a month behind the 16th.

A big thank you to the wonderful volunteers who have been working hard over the past couple of weeks on the cart path turn around area alongside the 17th tee. Hopefully this path will be back in use by the time the fairway is opened.

Annan Law Saturday Men’s Club Day

This week we resume with our Haggle and the 3rd round of the Summer Cup. It is also the first round of the A-One Kitchens and Interiors Shootout Qualifying. You must pay your entry fee of $40 before your scores will count. Please pay at the starters office or with Steve Davis.

Omokoroa Open

A huge well done to all who helped make our Open such an enjoyable event this year. The Course was in superb condition and we are very grateful to Nathan and his team for their work. Ben Taylor won the best gross score with a 3 under par score and Blair Murdock from Whakatane won the Tony Hewlett-Packard Memorial Trophy for the leading Master. We are going to have a ladies best gross Trophy for next years event.

Crusher scores an Ace

In the last Men’s Saturday Haggle, Bruce Chapman scored his 2nd hole-in-one on the 16th. He caressed a 6 iron straight at the pin which bounced once and then went into the hole. Bravo Crusher.
