Building Project Update 5 – November 2025

Rebuild Committee.

Significant progress has been made in several areas, indicating that the project is on schedule. The foundations are nearing completion, and special blocks have been ordered and are currently being manufactured, with expected delivery within the next week. Once the blocks arrive, work will commence on the exterior blockwork façade. The structural frame is being constructed off-site, with delivery anticipated in early December. After the frame arrives, we will begin erecting the structure and expect to complete it by Christmas.

Other critical areas, such as roofing and window manufacturing, are also in progress, with the final design drawings for the joinery of the Bar. Kitchen and  Pro Shop is underway.

Additionally, the car park side of the project is progressing well. We have been fortunate to have one of our members, Morne Hugo, a Landscape Architect with expertise in traffic flow design. His contributions have been invaluable in maximising the number of parking spaces within the landscape design framework while ensuring compliance with the necessary consent requirements. This allows us to determine the final costs for the work, which is currently underway.

Warm regards,

Fintan Downes.

New build committee chair.

Clubhouse rebuild finance Committee

We are pleased to announce that our grant application to the TECT Community Facilities Fund was successful, and it is with great thanks that we will be in receipt of $300,000.00 from TECT as a contribution to the Clubhouse rebuild fund.

Members and TECT have been very generous with support for the Clubhouse rebuild and the funding programme has been an outstanding success. At this stage we are within 10% of the total funding required to cover the construction costs, fitout, electrical upgrades, cart shed and the car park redevelopment. Work is ongoing.

We still have room for wholesale lenders who may have missed out on our earlier member loan campaign. Any member who still wishes to participate as a wholesale lender can contact Des Hammond, Gus Gaskin or Sue Dark from the Finance Committee to agree on terms.

After Christmas and New Year, we will also commence with further fundraising events and initiatives and will be reaching out to members to help close out the funding programme. Donations and sponsorship, of course, are always welcome. If you have some fundraising ideas, please do get in touch with Allan, our General Manager.

Sue Dark, Clubhouse Rebuild Finance Committee Chair.

Board Report – November 2025

Greetings All,

There has been some very significant recent happenings so time for an update from the Board.

Your Board met on 17 November to progress key business and ensure our club is in great shape for a busy summer and the year ahead. Here’s a summary of the main discussion points and actions:

Governance and Board Appointments

  • Welcome to Des Hammond: The Board formally confirmed Des as a new Board member. Des’s finance and project management background—along with his previous input into our building and loans programs—will be of real benefit.
  • Constitutional Review: Work continues to modernize our constitution, aligning with new Incorporated Societies legislation and Golf NZ best practices. A draft will soon be circulated to members.

Course & Maintenance

  • Volunteers: Thanks to all who have helped recently with turf-laying and bunker restoration. Further volunteer callouts will come as we tackle more bare patches and continue with course improvements.
  • Diseases on Greens: Some patches (notably on greens 3 and 4) are being monitored, with soil testing and treatment ongoing.
  • General Upkeep: Remediation continues following winter storm damage and tree removal.

Clubhouse & Facilities

  • We are seeking sponsorship's for key features like entry walls and car park lighting to reduce costs.
  • AV (audio-visual) and facility fit-out plans are underway; quotes are being sought and wiring will be built in with flexibility for future upgrades.
  • Extra effort is being made to improve signage for toilets and course navigation, especially for visitors. Warm beer should soon be a thing of the past with a new fridge in the marquee!

Financial Performance

  • Membership: Numbers are up, with strong interest in summer memberships.
  • Revenue: Bar sales and cart hires are better than expected, offsetting lower green fees through winter. Ongoing fundraising, grant applications, and diligent financial oversight remain priorities.
  • Reporting: The Board is reviewing reporting processes and ensuring all compliance filings are kept up to date.

Other Club Matters

  • Sponsorship & Fundraising: 2026 Sponsorship packages are being reviewed to maximize value for both the club and sponsors. Player groups are working with the Board to ensure a coordinated approach.
  • Furniture Procurement: We are looking into partnerships for the best deals on clubhouse furniture, with the potential to leverage buying power from other clubs.
  • Community Engagement: Congratulations to our Juniors for standout performances at the Top of Harbour event—over 150 in attendance. Our young golfers continue to represent Omokoroa with distinction!

Many thanks for your patience and understanding as we move through this transitional phase..

Happy Golfing

Ken Shirley

Chairman
