General Managers Message
Allan Botha

Dear Omokoroa Golf Club Members,

It’s a true pleasure to join the Omokoroa Golf Club family. From the moment I stepped onto the course, I felt the warmth and passion that makes this club so special.

With over 20 years as a Class A PGA Club Professional, I’ve had the privilege of working at premier clubs such as Kauri Cliffs and Mount Maunganui in New Zealand, and Pecanwood and Eagle Canyon in South Africa. These experiences have shaped my approach to delivering exceptional service and creating memorable moments for members and guests alike.

I’m excited to ensure that you as members have the best possible golfing experience, while supporting Omokoroa golf club’s continued growth. With the new Club House as a cornerstone, we have a unique opportunity to:

  • Attract both golfers and non-golfers
  • Expand sponsorships and community partnerships
  • Host innovative events and enhance hospitality offerings

I look forward to meeting you on the course, at events, or simply around the club. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself or share your thoughts. Together, let’s make Omokoroa a vibrant hub for golf, community, and connection.

A Word Around The Greens
Nathan Kerr, Head Greenkeeper

Well if it doesn’t rain, it pours down. Seems to be the new normal with 97mm of rain falling on the golf course just this week alone.

On a positive note, me and the team have been impressed with how fast the surface water drained away.

All the drainage work that has been done over the years and the aeration practices that we use are working.

Talking about aeration practices, You will notice a tractor with a spiking machine attached to the back of it which is called a Virtidrain driving over the greens and tees in the next couple of weeks.

The virtidrain is an aeration machine that has 18 solid long spikes that drive into the profile of the turf surface to a depth of around 200mm to release surface compaction that is created over time by lots of foot traffic and our machinery running over the tees and greens most days of the week. The virtidrain also allows air and surface water to enter the root zone of the turf which creates a firmer dryer turf surface to play golf off.

Enjoy the sun and golf as the next 5-6 days is looking good with more settled conditions.

Presidents Message
John 'Swampy' Marsh

The Eagles raffle results are now live on the official website. Heartfelt congratulations to our Bay of Plenty winners:

  • 3rd Prize – John Patterson: $2,500

  • 8th Prize – Ian Jory: $750   (Omokoroa)

  • 24th Prize – G. Kirk: $100

On-site works have begun, clearing hedges and gardens is underway. Although this may cause some inconvenience, golf play should remain mostly unaffected. Please steer clear of work areas while crews are active.

Looking ahead, stage two of the number 1 cart path is scheduled for pouring next week, weather permitting.

For those needing firewood, please reach out to Colin Gee at 027?577?1987.

A huge thank you to our sponsors and volunteers for your invaluable support.  Happy golfing!

9 Hole Ladies
Yvonne Hoskins

Only 18 brave ladies challenged the course this week.  Although it was wet underfoot with surface water and mud, the warm sun stayed out for their game -  the scores weren't too bad.  A stableford haggle was played with Chris Kelly coming first with 19 stableford points, followed by Astrid Martin (17) and Debbie Hardaker (15).  Well done brave ladies.

Men's World
Ben Van den Borst

After two weeks of close competition the pairs tournament was won by John Reynolds & Don Haywood winning by one shot over Craig Joubert & Brent Jenkins, with the fast finishing Karl McLean-Harvey/ Scott Hemmerling combination in 3rd place. The new format this year provided for a tight competition with the top 10 pairs only separated by 4 shots. I hope you enjoyed the variety in the format and any constructive feedback is  always welcome via email to the mens@omokoroagolf.co.nz email account.

This upcoming Saturday I am 100% confident a new course record will be set by someone! This is because we are playing the new Blue/White tee combined course. As this course has never been played in tournament conditions before, then whoever shoots the low gross round for the day will hold a course record at Omokoroa Golf Club, so play well this Saturday and it could be you!

It is important to note which tee block you play from on each hole, as there are 9 holes from the white tees and 9 holes from the blue tees. It is marked on the card which tee to use on each hole. Failure to play from the correct tee block without correction is a 2 stroke penalty, so please make sure you are using the correct tee on each hole!

Combined course layout:
White tees: Holes 2,4,7,8,9,11,14,15,18
Blue tees: Holes 1,3,5,6,10,12,13,16,17

After this weekend, the remaining four Saturdays in August are dedicated to the Carroll Cup, and all rounds are counting for the shootout!

Also we have set up a new WhatsApp community for the Mens Golf section. Feedback is many people do not read the weekly emailed newsletter, so we will also communicate via the WhatsApp group. This is a very fast and convenient way for everyone to receive up to date information, so please join the group and download WhatsApp to your phone if you have not already. QR codes will be in the clubhouse and on the mens noticeboard. You can scan the code on your phone to follow the link to join the group, or click the below link, will look forward to you joining the group.
