9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

Our annual Kiwi Allstars vs Rest of the World competition kicked off with a round of Ambrose.

The 36 players were more or less evenly divided between the two warring factions making for a fair competition.

We were greeted to a beautiful morning on the eve of Matariki with the course recovering amazingly well from the recent heavy rains.

The overall results were suprisingly close with only decimal points separating the two sides. Even amongst the individual teams the results were close.
Round 1 went to the Kiwi Allstars with a team average of 33.4 points against the Rest of the World with a team average of 33.5!

The Haggle money went to the top 3 individual teams of:

1st • Paul Cole, Bob Duckworth, Phil Stanbury and Thomas Hansen with a score of 31.5
2nd • Blair Francis, Brent Dixon, Tom Hansen and Frank Brown with a score of 31.6
3rd • Kevin Bowick, Dave Bennett, Dennis Douglas and Chris Lynch with a score of 32.1

The Raffle prizes were won by Richard Still, Murray Wills and Paul Cole.

Next week we return for Round 2 of the competition with the Rest of the World determined to even the series!

The Week Just Passed.
Winter golf is definitely here.  Heavy conditions, cooler air, less flight of the ball in the air, all leading to tough scoring conditions and slower play on the course.  Well done to the handfull of players who are playing to or better than their handicap.   Stay warm and dry and look after our course.

The week that was.
All dressed up and no golf for those poor cart players. Some managed to use the back 9 hole policy of the day. Unfortunately that did not help them participating in the competition of the day or haggle for the ladies weekly game. However, in spite of the continual rain the trundler players put in good scores on Saturday and Tuesday.

This week’s Pennant team, Pink Leow, Jenny Shirley, Martina Keir, Rae Mine, Janice Bell are currently in 3rd place with 2 games to be played. We wish them luck next week as they will be playing on Monday and Friday.

Saturday: 1st  Kellie Orchard, 2nd Dee McCrea, 3rd Maree Lawson
Tuesday: 1st Dee Mc Crea, 2nd Rae Milne, 3rd Barbara Aitken

The Shootout still continues each week.  The Matchplay Championship has begun and this year it will definitely be up to the weather as to how we all manage to complete our rounds.
