Manager's Message

Tremain’s Donation
Massive thanks to Noel Benstead from Tremains for donating $500 to the club.  For every house sold Noel gives the vendor an opportunity to donate $500 to a local club, and Jacqui Kerr has generously nominated us!  Thanks very much Jacqui and Noel!!

GMA Course
I am embarking on a course with the NZ Golf Manager’s Association.  It is a qualification for golf managers and a good opportunity to learn from more experienced managers.  My first module is in Auckland Sunday to Thursday, so I will be out of the office all next week.

Annual Report
The 2022 Annual Report has been completed and is attached.  Hard copies can be collected from the office.
As mentioned, if you have any questions regarding the accounts, please send them to me prior to the AGM so we can be ready to answer them in full.

9 Hole Ladies
Lyn Harrison

Great to be back on the course today especially for cart players.

Interclub team Robyn King, Yvonne Hoskins, Dianne Mahony, Mary Jane Leuch  played at Whakatane on Monday in atrocious conditions with one trundler blown back almost 1 fairway before it was retrieved. They secured a 3rd place finish for the day. Well done girls.

Stableford Cup round today even in very squishy conditions some ladies managed to put in good scores. Daisy Harrison 19, Debbie Hardaker 18, Trish Frecklington, Mara Mayo and Robyn King 17

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

The Matchplay Finals went ahead without a hitch in spite of earlier unfavourable weather predictions.  Sunshine welcomed 30 of our men onto the course to cheer on the Matchplay Finalists. Congratulations to the worthy winners.

The results were:
Matchplay -  Division 1 Championship - Tom Hansen
Division 1 Plate - Frank Lamborn
Division 2 Championship - Bruce Baggenstos
Division 2 Plate - Horton Schofield

The rest of the field played Stableford and managed to produce some outstanding scores given the unfavourable playing conditions.  It looks like the course has dried out quite quickly. Here’s hoping it stays that way.

The Haggle money went to:
Ted Parker                  20
Allan Hoskins              20
Bob Duckworth           19
Ken Hartley                 18

Raffle winners were:  Jim Avis 1st ($10), Chris Kelly (ladies) 2nd Chocolates, Bruce Blair 3rd (Wine).

Next week we begin our Kiwi Allstars v Rest of the World Competition.  Always fun and always hotly contested. Choose your colours, dress to impress and play your best.  The format for the opening round will be Ambrose.

The Week Just Passed.
Our deepest sympathies to Dawn, and family and friends of Peter. Peter Day sadly passed away recently after a period of illness.  Peter was a popular member of the Vet’s Golfing Group and we will fondly remember his smile, his laugh and the occassional smart jibe around the clubhouse.  Rest in peace Peter.

Results for 25 May
50 men and 8 ladies played on Wednesday under difficult circumstances.  With wet and somewhat muddy conditions underfoot, the greenkeepers sought to protect the course and allowed carts on the back 9 only.  A special thanks to all players for their understanding and cooperation on what turned out to be a difficult day for Captain Steve.

Good scores were few and far between and Ken Joyce (37pts) and John Holloway (37) were the only two players on the day to play to, or better their handicap.   Ken naturally extended his lead in the Naked Meats Shootout.

Dates to keep in mind
22 June – Club Day (Stableford and Optional Twos.
27 June – Vet Men’s Omokoroa Country Estate sponsored Quad’s at Omanu (The entry form is up in the men’s locker room)
