Vets Vibes
Scott Gwynne

The Week Just Passed.
It was great to return to my first full week of golf at my own club this week after a longish and somewhat unplanned break.  There is nothing better in golf than being among your own members and being subjected to lots of jibes and borax.  So good to see nothing has changed in that regard.

Having been away for several weeks it is easy to see the improvements around the course and I have to say the greens look fantastic.  Well done Colin, Nathan and all others who have contributed.

Twos Competition on Wednesday
Due to matters relating to the country's economy and inflation most people, organisations and businesses are feeling the impact of rising prices.   Our Wednesday Haggle prize structure is no exception.   The Vet's Committee has been monitoring the situation over recent months and considering options.

The Committee has decided to make the Wednesday Twos competition optional, and entry is $2.00 per member, effectively increasing entry into Wednesday's Haggle to $7.00.  This will allow for the foreseeable future, the distribution of prizes to remain pretty much the same as in the past.

To enter the Twos competition, select the ‘YES' option when printing your scorecard and give $7.00 when handing your scorecard to the starters for entry into the day's competition. Golf Balls will be distributed among the winners using the same formula as the old system.  In the event of there not being any twos scored on a day the prize pool will go into the Vet's general fund.

9 Hole Men

The Bay turned on a beautiful morning for us and the course proved in excellent condition for this year's Matchplay Competition.  There was an excellent turnout with a full field in spite of a few last minute absences.

Results were finalised for the opening round of Matchplay with the winners advancing to next week’s Quarterfinal Rounds.
Losers of the opening Matchplay Round automatically enter the draw for the Consolation Plate
The draw for next week's Matchplay will be updated on the Club Noticeboard.

If you are unlikely or unable to play next Thursday 2nd June you still have time to play your Match between now and then. If you do so please advise me of the result.  Please be sure to confirm your slot on Dot.Golf and notify me if you aren’t able to play for any reason.

Players who didn’t take part in Matchplay played a regular round of Stableford. Next week the format for this group will be Par.

There was no Haggle but there was a Raffle and a selection of mystery prizes carefully chosen by Bruce Baggenstos.

Good luck to all for the rest of the Contest.

Tournament Report
The recently held annual Saturday Ladies Teams Tournament was a huge success. This year we joined with the Tuesday Ladies as their Autumn tournament was cancelled due to the National Women's event being held here as a last minute change of course host in March.
We fielded over 100 players from Auckland to Opotiki, Rotorua and the Bay. The course played beautifully and was looking sharp with the GURs marked, our new signage, pins, cartpaths and the amazing view.  Our visitors enjoyed the many improvements around the course, as well as a bit of humour about them missing the cartpath turn on the 8th!
With the help of our sponsors, Golf Girl, Immerse, 1st Signs, Gerrand's Flooring, the prizes and beautiful raffles donated by the ladies made it a very worthwhile reason for good golf.

The winning team was Maree Lawson’s team aka’MOA’, Cherry Reehal, Vicki Haydon, ( Akarana GC) and Annette White, (Mt Maunganui GC).Each received a pamper voucher from Immerse.

Saturday results; 1st=  Pixie Lochhead, Judy Lewer and Diana Price
Tuesday result: Division 1- 1st Diana Price, 2nd Larraine Tocker, 3rd Julie Howard.
Division 2- 1st Maryann McGarva and Janice Murray, 3rd Diana Price

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day
The Reg Carter Trophy was won last week by Jon Swindells from Jeff Beanland and Swampy Marsh in third place. Congratulations Jon on the victory which gets you and the runner-up, Jeff into the Grand Slam Cup at the end of the year.

This Saturday we play the qualifying round to get into the 32 draw for the Omokoroa Cup(Handicap Matchplay). The draw is on the Clubroom window by the Starters Office and the tee-times are booked for the opening matches. There are a lot of very interesting matches!

Eagles Foursomes Event
The entry list is in the Club House for this fun competition to be held at Omokoroa on the 19th June. The entry fee of $15 is to be paid on the day and with a shotgun start, won't be a long day. There is a mens pairs and mixed pairs competition where one player tees off the even holes and the other player the odd holes. Players hit alternately until ball is holed. Always an enjoyable format!

Kitchen Update
Good news and bad news.  The bad news is that our new caterer Trudie has come to the end of her initial 3-month contract and due to other pressures with her business she is unable to carry on.  The good news is that her capable sidekick Brittany is going to take over from 1 June.  Brittany is really excited about the role and she fits in very well with our team.

After assessing the last three months with the new catering arrangement, it has become apparent that we do need to raise prices slightly in the kitchen due to sharply rising costs.  We do hope you can keep supporting Brittany as she gets settled.

Carts for Sale
The lease for three of our current hire carts has come to an end and they will be replaced soon with new leased carts.  As part of the old lease we have first right to purchase the current carts.  So, members are invited to express interest to the office if they are interested in purchasing one.  The price is $5850 incl GST.  Please contact the office by close of play on Tuesday 31 May if you are interested.

Cart Cleaning
One last request – we are looking for one more person to fill out our cart cleaning roster.  Please volunteer at the office

New Bridge
See below a couple of photos of our awesome new bridge which has been nicknamed the ‘Troll Bridge’.  An amazing effort by our tireless course convener Colin Gee and his team.
