Autumn Foursomes (Ladies Pairs) 28-30 March

This national event has been dropped in our laps due to Fairview being unable to get their course ready in time.  We are very excited about having this prestigious event back at Omokoroa.  We last hosted this in 1996, and people still talk about it!  This will be a great event to showcase our club.  A massive thanks to the groups who have agreed to step aside for the three days to support womens golf.  Special mention to the ladies who had to move their Easter tournament.  We will need some volunteers, and we also need a few extra carts.  So if you have a cart and don’t mind it being used for the three days, please let the office know.

COVID

As I’m sure you all know, COVID is ripping through our community.  We have been lucky with only a couple of staff affected so far.  Just a reminder to keep vigilant in the club to keep everyone as safe as possible.  We are doing pour best to keep the club operating as ‘normally’ as possible.
The Board is committed to reviewing our club policy regularly, so keep an eye out for updates.

Pennants
See below a couple of photos of our mens and womens pennants teams in their smart uniforms.  Special thanks to Ben Taylor (Bethlehem Butchery) who sponsored the mens shirts, and Cherry Reehal and Carol Downes who donated the Womens.

Women's World
Diana Price

Tuesday Midweek’s haggle was on Nett. This definitely suits more than others or is it the current playing conditions favouring some and not others? Anyway it was great to be out in the not so hot heat with similar handicaps challenging each other.

Div 1: 1st equal Christine Millward, Maria King and Diana Price. All had 69 nett
Div2: 1st  equal - Brenda Arnesen, and Jan Annabell,  nett 70
3rd- Gae Stevenson nett 71

The Saturday Ladies also had lovely conditions with a Stb haggle.
1st- Linley Jamieson Hill 39, 2nd - Barbara Duncalf 38, 3rd- Rae Milne

Our Ladies Tournament due for 28 March has given way to the Autumn Foursomes which the club is hosting. We are looking at options for the event later in the year.

The Week Just Passed

A nice little innovation from JA this week in running a pre round raffle for a damned good prize.  It was, I’m told, a bit of an experiment and a successful one at that.  I’m not sure how regular he intends it to be but keep an eye out for tickets on sale.  Well done Rod Brown for being the inagural winner.

Events coming up

Events that people may be interested in –

•          Wed 16 March – 1st Round of the Sunvue Vet’s Strokeplay, a net haggle and the next round of the Naked Meats Shootout.

Sue Waller and Ian Graham are still taking entries for the Naked Meats Shootout.  See them with your $20.00 entry fee.

Sunvue Strokeplay Champs

The elite competition of the year commences next week.  This competition allows our very best golfers to strut their stuff, ‘off the stick’. The event is in four divisions, one for ladies and three for men.   The prizes for this event are sponsored by Sunvue.  Thank you for your support Sunvue.  A net haggle will run alongside the Strokeplay comp.

Wednesday 30 March

There will no Vet’s golf on the 30th of March.   A Women’s three-day tournament scheduled for Fairview Golf Course has run into some issues, and with agreement from playing groups Omokoroa Golf Club has agreed to help out by making our course available.  It’s good to see Women’s golf in the Western Bays being supported by our club.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

A glorious balmy evening was enjoyed by 86 players for the final competition of the twilight season. The format for the evening was combined stableford – playing with 5 clubs only. Scoring was good and the winners on the evening were Tom Hansen and Kevin Bowick with 39 points closely followed by Jacqui Crossfield and Bev Hansen on 38 – a good night for the Hansen family.

The top of the final leader board was extremely tight with Brad Hale and Brett Dingle winning on a countback from Keith Bardwell and Kerry Duggan. Thanks to our extremely generous sponsors there was a wonderful prize pool of over $3,500. We are most grateful to Ben Taylor – Bethlehem Butchery, Denise Langdon and Kim Buckley – Par NZ Golfing holidays , Jim Cusdin – The Clubroom Tauranga.

Brad and Brett were delighted to each receive a Titleist golf bag plus $200 in travel vouchers. See photo attached.

There was a wonderful party atmosphere in the club rooms with final night celebrations lasting late into the evening. A good time was had by all.

Many thanks again to all the players for your support over the season. The next Twilight season will start from November, dates to be finalised.

9 Hole Men
Spencer Tankard

A good turnout of 29 members of our team showed up to contest the Stableford Competition Round 1 and the Putting Competition Round 1 for our 2022 competition calendar.

Another beautiful autumn day, pleasantly warm and no wind.  No one was able to take advantage of fast fairways for the Lowest Gross competition but there’s still a few weeks of good playing conditions left!

In the Stableford Competition the Haggle money went to:

Division 1:
Ted Parker                         20
Ken Hartley                       19
Allan Hoskins                    19
Bob Duckworth                 19

Division 2:
Kevin Crossman                19
Phil Stanbury                     18
Spencer Tankard                18
Horton Schofield                18

Putting Competition - Round 1:

John Carmichael and Tom Hansen were comfortable winners on 13 Puts apiece.

Frank Brown scored a 2 on Hole #4

Raffle Prizes were won by:

Murray Wills, Debbie Hardaker and Gordon Lusby

Next week we play our Net Competition - Round 1
Another good turnout would be appreciated.

On a sad note:

We acknowledge the passing of our fellow 9 Holer Ian Rayson at the beginning of this week.
Ian finally gave up his battle with the cancer he has been fighting for some time.
We so much enjoyed Ian’s company just a few short weeks go when he came out and rode shotgun on Brett Dixons cart.
This was to be his last visit to the Golf Club.
We will miss Ian, his love and enthusiasm for the game, his wonderful friendship and and for just being an all-round good bloke.

Rest in peace.
