Vets Vibes
Scott Gwynne

The Week Just Passed.

So good to see the course looking nice and green again. Recent rain and humidity has grass growth going crazy. A hint from one with plenty of recent experience – stay on the fairways folks.

Welcome to our new caterer. The feedback (is there a pun in there?) from the players was very positive.

Thursday was a slightly damp day as predicted but still afforded the opportunity for some good golf. The weather looked ominous at first light but the sky cleared and all we were left with were fair skies and some killer humidity!!

The competition was Par with the added variation of 3 Tees - Blue, White, Yellow

A small group of 20 made it to the clubhouse for the start of play with Allan Hoskins setting up a small variation to the usual 3 Tees format. Nobody complained!

The Haggle prize money went to:
Gordon Lusby +2
Tom Hansen +1
Trevor Smith 0
Jim Avis 0
Denis Mason 0

2’s were scored by Paul Cole on #11 and Gordon Lusby on #4. Both gentlemen were rewarded with a free golf ball.

There was no Raffle on account of the reduced numbers.

Next week, Thursday 17th February we play away at Fairview Golf Club to make room for the Vets 3 Day Tournament.

Annan Law Saturday Men's Club Day

This Saturday we play the 3rd round of the Carroll Cup with Ian Wade leading at the halfway mark. Max Greer, Graeme Muir and Swampy Marsh fill the podium spots at this stage.

The entries for the Club Matchplay Championships are now being taken. Please put your names on the Entry List on the Changing Room notice board. There are four divisions and the winners all get their names on the honours board. We would like to get as many players as we can taking part so matches can be played during the week if Saturdays don't suit.

Slow Play

While we all like to complete a round of golf in under four hours, I do ask players to be tolerant if there is the odd hold up. It is not worth getting upset if play is at times a bit slow. We are busier now and hold ups provide a chance to enjoy each other's company. However if play is slow then the person with the lowest handicap should "guide" the fellow golfers to keep up with the group in front. Do play "Ready Golf" by walking ahead and waiting by your ball so you are ready to play when your turn comes. Also when 2 players have putted out move off the green and tee off, leaving the last two players to putt out.

Pennants Interclub Golf

The first round kicks off on 20th February. We have three teams entered in the Championship division, the Intermediates and the Juniors. Entry lists are in the mens changing room.

Twilight Update
Pink Leow

A good field of 81 players on Wednesday including 2 visitors and 3 new members who played the “Powerplay” competition. The light drizzle hung around and made the players slightly damp, but it certainly did not dampen their enthusiasm. Once again, the club room was full after golf with the overflow taking up the outside tables.

Scoring was very good indeed, with some teams choosing their “Powerplay” holes very carefully – and to good effect. Winners on the night were Cliff and Robyn King with an amazing total of 57 points. They were followed by Nathan Lewis and Rick Clark on 54 points then Sam Bartosh and George Brodie on 53 points. Overall leaders remain Keith Bardewell and Kerry Duggan – but it is all quite close at the top of the leader board.

The updated Leaderboard (Twilight Points Table) can be found on https://www.omokoroagolf.co.nz/tournaments?ComeFromCat=1635

Our new caterer – Trudie – put on a wonderful dinner of roast rolled stuffed chicken and salad which went down very well with everyone. The lucky winner of the free dinner (courtesy of Trudie) was Tim Trickett.

The draw and dinner menu for next week will be sent out on Monday. 4 more rounds of Twilight before we end the season.
